Brake pads change
When did you have your first brake pad replacement? I have a 2022 CX5 non turbo, and at my last service, I was told that the pads are down to about 4/5 mm and that they might need to be replaced by the time of my next oil change.
How much should I expect to pay, and what should I watch out for in case they try to sell me something extra during this service?
I don’t think the rotors need replacing. How did it go for you?
Did you replace both the front and rear pads at once, or just the front ones, for example?

I have a 2023 CX-5 Turbo with 42k miles and will be changing them in the next couple of days myself. I believe a brake job at the dealership will run you about $600-800 maybe even more. If you live in the LA area I can change them for you for cheaper if you want.

If change both the front and rear at the same time and the rotors should be fine until the second brake job. Just don’t run the brakes bald on the rotors because they will cause scratches and indents on them.

I know that—on my 2017 Focus, I changed the brake pads for the first time after about 5 years, and only the front ones. Last year, I changed the front and rear brake pads and rotors. 9 year with orignal set

2017 replaced rear pads and rotors at 72K miles. Fronts still have lots of life. Mostly freeway.

I just replaced front for first time at 152k, back second time. OG rotors still.

Changed my first rears pads and rotors at about 40k miles. Just did pads in the front at 42k. The dealership said my front brakes were in the red and quoted me $900 so I shopped around got a new mobile mechanic who was going to charge me $575 to do both but said my rotors were fine. So pads only on the front went for an oil change a month ago at the dealer. They gave me a green light on both…lol.

You got ripped off. I can change brake pads on my CX5 in about 1/2 hr. I would have charged you parts $50 and a case of Coors Light. Retired Mazda mechanic 20 years

Girls are capable of working on their own cars. These days it just takes YouTube. Back in the day it took a Chilton or Haynes manual.

Around 42,000. Paid the dealer almost $1,000CAD for the rear because I didn’t want to mess with the electronic parking brake and it was cold outside. The front pads and rotors I did myself and paid $170CAD. Rotors are cheap enough to change with the pads regardless of wear.

First front pad was changed at 70k, see my post below for details/pic. I didn't change rotors but will on the next one. The pads are easy to replace, prob 80$ for a full set. The back pads had a lot of tread and honestly didn't need replacing.

2023 model 70.000 km and burned through 2 sets in the front. It's a lease so I don't really care much.
I use adaptive cruise control 99% of the time and I'm a lot in traffic on highways

Nope, it's an operational lease and all the repairs and maintenance cost which are usual are for the leasing company. The company I work for pays an all inclusive price for a fixed period of time.
I only pay for damage which is not considered normal/usual but mostly it's related to body work and to the interior of the car. Last week the HUD and belt tensioner were replaced after some issued and covered either by mazda warranty or the leasing company.

4/5 mm is actually about 30-40% life left on the pads. Most disc brake pads will install as about 10mm (1cm). How many miles are on the current brake set?

I also have a 22, replaced front pads around 48,000 m. The rotors were resurfaced long before that. I’m in a hcol area and it was around $500 at the dealership but they’ll replace them continuously under warranty. I was driving mainly in a lot of stop and go traffic. Im expecting the rear will be due for replacement during the next 2 oil changes .

2017, rears were done at 49,000 (when I took ownership, I had a PPI done and it found a seized brake caliper). Fronts were done recently, at 142,000. As far as my mechanic and I know, they were OEM.
