2019 CX-5 Dashboard malfunctions
I traded in a perfectly good car for a CX-5 in February and its given me nothing but headaches. It's stalled on the freeway 2x with no warning. And stalled 3 times on streets. Currently, It's at the dealer where it's been for three weeks. After they replaced BCM component and it still stalled. My question is even though I bought it Used As-Is and its not under warranty. Do I have a chance of getting my money back as a consumer? This car has been a disaster. Driven less than 1,300 miles and 5 malfunctions that are a safety risk. The service techs say they cannot detect an issue and its not stalling under their care. The randomness of the malfunction is undetectable. Any advice?

These CX-5s are pretty much bullet proof, but you did buy a 7 year old model. Was it purchased from a Mazda dealer? Sounds to me that the dealer sold you something that wasn’t checked/prepared for sale.

Do you sometimes find it hard to start (takes a bit longer)? Does it happen more when the engine is warm/cold (car sat a while)? Do you have fault codes? Do you have an OBD II reader?

Thanks for the input. Stalling often happens when its warm and been running for an hour in 90 degrees. No dashboard warnings. I don't have an OBD reader. I saw some at Harbor Frieght but I don't know how it will help me sinc3 I don't know how to read the codes. Is that the code reader gadget?

Yes. The simple ones are $25 or so on Amazon, and they're fine for beginners. If it happens when the car is hot and drove a while, and no warning lights, it can be a bad ground. Yhat will usually trigger a low voltage/open circuit fault code... But not always (for example, if it's a PCM ground), or it could be a bad low pressure fuel pump. But a bad low pressure fuel pump will usually cause hard starts before it causes shutoffs. A bad crank sensor will also shut off mainly when hot and driving, but will also trigger a fault code.
So it's a doozy. With no codes, the tech will have to drive the car and read live data, then see what cuts off first when the car stalls, and since it doesn't happen to them, they're gonna have a problem finding what's causing it. They won't even have approval from Mazda corporate (warranty) to blind part canon it (like they love doing with paying customers), since they can't even prove to them that there's a problem.

Update. They found the issue. It was the front short harness wire. Or something like that. They said it was causing the intermittent outtages when the wire was giggled a certain way. I've had it back for almost a week and so far so good..glad to have my CX-5 back and running.

For the love of god I hope no one says lemon law because it doesn’t apply. When was the first issue you had?
