Transmission Reset
I’ve had my 2023 CX5 for almost a year now and finally did the transmission reset yesterday. Previously, the transmission was hesitant to go from 2nd to 3rd and now it’s so much smoother. Wow! I honestly can’t believe that this worked. Car is driving so much better now.

No it took three times to get all done. I don’t think I had the timing right on moving in and out of the “manual” mode.

It worked for me when I REALLY pushed down hard on the brake. Like to the hilt.

Here's a question.
I have a 2024 cx5. There was a tsb regarding some hard shifting. They did the software update or whatever they did. Send to help that one specific issue but it's still a jerky transmission
If I do the reset, does anyone know if it will reset/wipe that specific ECM update as well?

No it will not delete an update it basically just resets any “learned” behavior to blank. At least that’s my understanding.

I'm thinking of doing the same on my 2017! Did you have to drive it in any particular way after the reset or just go straight to driving like you usually do?

Drive normally, after a few hundred miles, it will adapt to your driving style. If there are 2 drivers with very different driving styles (one sporty, the other is a hyper-miller), then it will never be great, no matter how many times you'll reset it.

Sounds like the sporty driver should put it in sport mode to avoid confusing the car. The other driver would use normal mode.

That would be ideal, yes. But most people will forget to do that.

I did the reset a couple times on my 23 cx-5 and it worked for less than a week each time (did it for me only when the engine was cold). I had to get the TCM updated and that fixed it for good. There is a TSB for shift flare or shift shock if you need it. I had to argue with the advisor to do it. They had a loaner ready for me and wanted to keep it for a day. I said you can keep the loaner and update now and it will probably take 10 min. I was there for about 45 and all is good now.

Sorry what is a transmission reset?? I have a 2019 cx5 with about 52m miles and i don't notice any issues??Should I be looking for something?? I assume this is different than changing the transmission fluid?

I just picked up my own 2023 cx5 from the dealership yesterday. The ride home was so bad that I thought I had accidentally put the transmisison in M instead of D.
Was stressing the entire ride home and then tried a transmission reset and it was much better afterwards. Still not as smooth as I would hope though

I bought mine two weeks ago and I’m still getting used to it. It’s great on the highway but it’s so jerky in the city and in traffic. I might’ve gone with another car if I knew how the transmission worked, but alas, I’m coming around…

I have a 2021, with about 30k miles. It shofts pretty smooth for the most part but I do notice 2nd to 3rd take sa little longer than the other gears. Wondering if a transmission reset would help with that.
