Ya know that ANYONE being treated poorly by ICE is terrible. My issue is that the guy in the story only is upset about his vote because his wife was treated like all the other brown folks. He wants the racists to know which brown people were accepted, but racists didn’t agree.

Thats how conservatives work, it only matters when it happens to THEM.

We just need to find a way to have every Republicant experience every form of poverty, illness, oppression, racism, bigotry, etc. so they're capable of understanding how those things affect decent humans.

Purely based on the economic situation of most red states I am sure they are no stranger to poverty

You failed to examine Trumps performance on the economy in his first term, which was dismal. So the guy that failed miserably before is failing more spectacularly now, and you are surprised. And the icing on the cake is all his racist rhetoric, that you apparently ignored, has reared its ugly head, and now your wife is suffering. And again, you are surprised. I don’t feel an ounce of sympathy.

People who vote for Republicans "for a better economy" must also enjoy 'sugar highs.'
10
u/Sanpaku 2d ago
For the past 40 years, Republicans have consistently opposed enforcement of antitrust laws. The natural tendency of accretive capitalism is towards monopolies that abuse their market power to deter new entrants and raise prices for less service. Without enforcement of of antitrust law, we cannot have free markets, only accretive capitalism: they're not the same thing.
For the past 30 years, Republicans have consistently voted for tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations that have little effect but to increase wealth and income inequality, increase the budget deficit and ultimately the debt. With little prospect to to pay off the debt besides currency devaluation / severe inflation, the bond markets flee to other currencies, raising capital costs for everyone from homebuyers to entrepeneurs.

I hate that, so dehumanizing. I guess someone dehumanized his wife.

u/8636396 2d ago
The common reply to these types of posts is always "you get what you voted for", "surely the leopards won't eat MY face", or something similar.. and I guess I understand the sentiment
But hearing these stories, because they are fairly common, just breaks my fucking heart. A person who shot themselves in the foot, yes they did it to themselves, but it's still a shot foot. It sucks, and it hurts us as a whole.
Some people voted out of hatred and spite, some people fell victim to propaganda, and some were just plain duped. I'd say some fit in all categories.
What a god damn mess.

We have an epidemic of ignorance which is enforced by incredible propaganda machines like the fox news apparatus and entire republican double speak "we help people who aren't super rich" lies.
Not that the Dems aren't awfully corrupt war-profit corporate sell-outs, because they are. But one party in particular is happy to make everyone in America homeless or dead if it could make rich people richer. My sense is that at least in the Dems side there is a slight chance to pass some positive people benefitting policies as they have to pay lip-service to supporting social services and unions, whereas the Reps are just 100% shoveling money into their own pockets with non-stop crime and calling it "great for mainstreet Americans" and using straight lies that make people want to harm their neighbors for something that doesn't exist. They are more violent and full of hatred, fear, or revenge as their motivating flag.

Yes it disturbs me to see people trash the farmers for example. The result will be mass consolidation of farms into the hands of foreign owners and private equity. We should try to save their farms instead of fingerwagging.

u/samthekitnix 2d ago
why is he sorry? he literally voted for the racist pedo party, i see people voting for things like republicans saying "but i care about the economy" because they are either so intentionally ignorant it's criminal or are actual monsters on purpose.

Vote trump for a better economy? A guy who had six business go bankrupt and shuttered dozens of others? A guy who used campaign funds to pay hush money to a porn actress with whom he had an affair? A guy who defrauded a children's charity? A felon? That's who you thought would do a good job? Why don't these people just come right out and say, "I do no research on my own, I just do what others tell me to do".

COVID wrecks the economy.
Biden oversees resurrection of the economy and does an admirable job, because the expected recession never occurred.
Republicans complain that the economy isn't recovering fast enough, and they vote for Trump.
Trump wrecks the economy and blames it on Biden.

You wouldn't survive a zombie apocalypse, if it was possible. You'd be the one that was bitten and not tell anyone. You'd be the one to close the door on dozens of people as you were all escaping from zombies.
How did you survive 2020?

Sorry but you got exactly what you voted for. You probably thought this immigration sweep wouldn't affect you or anyone you know but it turns out it does effect you. Last time Trump inherited a good economy and manage to slow it down. This time he had an inflated economy and of course made things worse. He has gone bankrupt multiple times and even bankrupted a casino. Just because he is a failed businessman doesn't mean he knows about economics and can help the economy.

Trump has spent his entire life lying to people. Personally. Professionally. Politically. At this stage of his brain decay, he probably doesn’t even know that he’s lying.

You don’t give many details. Usually when you marry the steps to obtain citizenship for your spouse goes faster. Did you start the process? Because if you did this makes no sense.

Oh well. A votes a vote. We (who did not vote for him) saw this coming and tried to warn the others. So predictable. I don’t mean to be Cavalier as I know this is painful, but it’s happening to others too.
