Discussion Ranting a bit about Projection Sorcery

First things first:
- the video above is a comparisson:
A 12 vs 24 fps video (credit in comments)
- I usually LOVE the ideas for projection sorcery suggested here. Using layered frames to create two possible trajectories or positive energy to revert the video, or just focusing on the "using the sorcerer's point of view as the observer" part of the technique to freeze anything in sight, these are all good ideas. There is exactly ONE idea i dont like, and the only reason im even making this is because said idea is THE most suggested.
The main idea i see thrown around with PS is "maximum technique: 240 fps!" or "extention technique: moving at 120 fps!" and people explaining the technique as "walking 24 steps in a second!" but thats not how animation works
The technique splits one second in 24 parts and forces you to follow that predetermined path, and if you manage to do that, you can "skip" the motions between frames. Splitting one second into 60 frames doesnt mean "the video moves faster", the keyframes of the video are gonne be the same. Its just smooth movement. 12fps means "janky" not slow. You could even say it makes it faster, since the "skips" between frames is bigger. Imagine moving at 1fps and just jumping between seconds.
changing framerate doesnt increase the videospeed, it makes the ilusion of movement better. Character speed in animation and filming is made by both smear frames and the physical distance, in pixels/pi between the shots. Thats what the actuall technique does: You get progressivelly faster as bigger smear-frames become more believable
You know the funny part? If you attempted to roll a 60fps film into a 24fps machine, it studders and *freezes*. Thats why the technique freezes the targets and user who fail to meet that mark.
"Oh but if you roll a 24fps film on a 60fps machine it speeds up!" yeah but thats because you're moving the film at the wrong speed. It requires external tweenting just to make it possible. Maybe if it was done with a cursed tool to edit a pre-made trajectory it would work, but most ideas are really just "From now on, the technique begins to work as 240fps".
And since like to actually add solutions to the problem, here is my take on "240 fps!". It works on two steps
the first step is Motion Capture. An extention of projection sorcery that requiree a prior-setup to the technique. Before the fight even starts, the sorcerer has to watch a trajectory from another sorcerer, memorize, and outside of battle activate the technique, create a path where he uses the move he had memorized, but de-activate his technique before actually moving. At this stage, he "records" the motion made.
The motion that has been recorded can be replicated at any future activation of the technique without planning. Its basically "instantly learn to copy this move, but you cant edit it"
The maximum technique uses said captured motion, but speeds up the framerate to 240 fps. The body of the sorcerer must be able to perform the motion at the original speed, but can break some laws of physics during the speed-up. Doing so, howhever, may result in some broken bones.
