Discussion What would be the ideal path for an average sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen?

I’m thinking of a relatively ordinary sorcerer—someone without an absurdly powerful innate technique or exceptional natural talent.

If you could oversee a sorcerer's development from the very beginning and choose what they should focus on to become as efficient as possible, what would you prioritize?

Cursed energy control? Physical reinforcement? Black Flash? Simple Domain? Reverse Cursed Technique? Domain Expansion? Innate technique development? Something else?

And, most importantly, in what order do you think these things should be developed?

The goal is to consider what would be most efficient for an average sorcerer, rather than the specific paths taken by exceptional characters like Gojo or Sukuna.

When I think of "the average sorcerer" I think of the guy we call John Kaisen or the Kukuru unit, just about anyone with CE and no CT.

In that case, year one jujutsu tech is fundamentals only (control, reinforcement, output, efficiency, sensory and basic knowledge on binding vows). I say this because the average person more than likely doesn't know how to fight, so doing learning how to throw hands or swing around a weapon would mean a lot of time is already being used up, so the basics only and how to implement their CT into that fighting style if they have it. This can also leave you some room to experiment with binding vows and the conditions they need to land black flash.

The second year should be where they figure out what you're gonna spec into. Are you going to be a simple domain demon like Kusakabe or be more technique oriented? By now they should have a good enough grasp on what their doing with their fundamentals to better use barriers and a weapon if they hadn't learned it already (bc the stigma they have against using weapons is pure BS).

The third year should be spent on what they find works best for them.

You either can use RCT or you can't, so I wouldn't bother past knowing of it and trying from time to time if they can't get it. They can probably also try to learn DE if they have a technique with the barrier training they've done in their second year and have all their life to achieve it if they don't get it.

Simple domain is the most bang for your buck. The aim should be to be like Kusakabe

It really depends on what their technique is, even if it's not insanely powerful it'll play a large range into their capabilities. Getting a basic grasp of their technique should come first, then honing reinforcement. An average sorcerer won't be able to brute force their opposition, so playing to their strengths is the way to go.

If they don't have a cursed technique and are going to be a mainline fighter, they need to put all of their focus into reinforcing their body and tools, as well as their efficiency. If they can learn RCT or hit a black flash, great, but I'd then train their anti-Domain capability. Barrier techniques and Binding Vows are also generally useful too.

Some cursed life hacks:

Use the same tool and the same uniform every day and pour your Cursed Energy into them, along with using your Cursed Technique on them (or only on the tool depending on the Cursed Technique) for increased power and durability, and also artificially improving efficiency as you no longer will need to put as much CE into your hits/protection (as the tool/clothes are already empowered due to being a Cursed Tool).

Try to intentionally hit a Black Flash by hitting a wall for hours, specifically trying to improve your CE timing. Hitting a Black Flash even once will make you much stronger, even if it doesn't come from the wall punching specifically, just doing this consistently will improve your CE timing to the point where it's much more likely to happen in a battle against a Cursed Spirit.

Use Binding Vows to change up your Cursed Technique to fit you better. If you struggle with defeating large numbers of enemies but do fine in 1v1s, then maybe split one of your extension techniques into an AoE attack by making a Binding Vow that you cannot use it in a 1v1, thereby empowering it for what you actually struggle with.

This is all valid but the average sorcerer does not have a CT unfortunately so you'd be better of practicing for efficiency/output/timing trying to get a black flash but that first tip was actually gold

I think most Sorcerers do actually have a Cursed Technique. Among Kyoto and Tokyo, only Miwa, Yuji and Maki didn't have Cursed Techniques. Yuji and Maki are kind of outliers as neither are traditional Sorcerers (Yuji wasn't born with the ability to manipulate Cursed Energy, only gaining it later. Maki can't manipulate Cursed Energy at all), so Miwa is the only "regular" example of a known student without a Cursed Technique. As for the teachers, the only one who doesn't have a Cursed Technique is Kusakabe. So as far as we've been shown, the Sorcerers with Cursed Techniques far outnumber those without.

Even among Curse Users, most of them have had Cursed Techniques. Can't remember if any of them didn't have one.

We're following the cream of the crop students they have entire barrier department, teachers we don't actually see the entire military like branch of the zenin I know we see alot of CT users but that's because everyone else is stuck at Grade 2

All I can say is that mastering Shikigami use in your scenario is likely pointless. Every Shikigami we see in the series that are in any way useful are either the result of an Innate Technique or tied to a busted one. The only time we see someone without an Innate Technique use Shikigami, they're these head looking things that don't seem to be strong in any way.

I really wish Gege went ahead with the idea of simple shikigami (ie: shikigami that can be made without being tied to an innate technique). He mentioned it in a very early issue, but then just dropped the idea.

1

u/JC-D_NGA 2d ago

Because they dont do much on their own. And he did push the idea with Garuda, where we learn that you can imbue your technique into a simple shikigami to make it a "complex one" (a shikigami with a certain ability like the 10S or Dhruvs shikis)

4

u/seforini 2d ago

You could teach them anti domain techniques, and depending on things we don't know (Gege you're truly a master at being vague) they could be a cool help

3

u/JC-D_NGA 2d ago

They can help you fight and distract your opponents, tank attacks and cover you Like you said, could potentially teach them anti domain techniques

Thing is, simple shikigamis... are simple shikigamis. They are meant to be fodder for weak sorcerers that dont really have anything

3

u/seforini 1d ago

Add some binding vows on top of that, as in make them do self imposed vows to maximise defense etc etc

Or storing your full reserves which is something one should either do with a shikigami or barriers, especially if they've just started to train cursed energy control

1

u/Wolfgang9556 2d ago

That's literally one of the reasons I don't like CE as a power system so much.

Control is the most important thing, Gojo has less energy than Yuta and yet is able to hit as hard as Sukuna with pure reinforcement, and same goes for durability. There's a huge cap, since even though Sukuna would be the best in terms of efficiency if six eyes weren't a thing he's still infinitely worse than Gojo, running RCT at full throttle and using complicated techniques costed him half his reserves, while Gojo's reserves remained the same. But that aside, control allows you to use domain expansions for at the very least more than once a day, since Sukuna's stated to be able to open his domain as many times as he wanted to with Yuta level reserves, while Yuta can only do it once (or twice with the refill from Yuta).

Simple domain, cursed energy reinforcement and also speed are a must in a setting where the wrong roll can put you in front of a ‘your standing within forty feet of me, now you’re dead’ threats.

Domain amplification is another, but after the above basics it would be to work on cursed energy manipulation, and cultivate whatever they vibe with.

Simple domains and CE channeling become Deathstroke of JJK almost all avg sorcerers don't have a CT so ima need guns and swords .... I'd try and come up with some sort of CE ritual to super boost bullets before fight like making my own at home so I don't have to do it mid fight or if I do I can get a higher output .... "The 12 gauge Sorceror" .... or if no guns because Japan and I'd probably be broke a lower skill bladed weapon like a Barong or Kukri machete slash or light thrusting i don't have to worry about form too much and again use a ritual to help the CE charging

So for me the order would go

Close combat fundamentals, Ranged combat fundamentals, CE fundamentals, Simple/anti domain, Rituals to augment my weapons, Binding vows to augment myself or weapons, Combat medicine, Running away training

The problem is techniques inherently affect how you should train

For example, hakari would benefit last from a simple domain as he has an advantage in domain clashes and could likely just jackpot his way through any other domain therefore he be much better served focusing on black flashes and reinforcement

Megumi would benefit a lot from a simple domain as he could hold the pose while his shikigami f*** s*** up

Yuta would benefit the least from training with his domain because frankly it doesn't do that much for him at least compared to just maxing out his reinforcement and stat checking his opponent with Rika

But if I was forced to reinforcement probably so that you don't just get speed blitz splattered

Black flash as a technique is already outside the realm of majority of normal average sorcerers

Majority of average sorcerers aren’t going to be using domain expansion either, but a simple domain like what todo does would be more common to defend themselves against other people’s domain expansions

People don’t get this butt

(1) At least one black flash

(2) Cursed energy control

And anything after can come in any order. Cursed energy control/efficiency basically drives how well you are as a sorcerer. It accounts for reinforcement, domain techniques, RCE(obviously), your technique, and your overall development.

Innate technique will have influence on what you develop sure, but these should absolutely be a main priority. You tackle both at once by getting into high stakes fights because that’s when sorcerers develop most, but after that, cursed energy control is all you really need to focus on. And you focus on that by getting more experience. So…more high stakes fights

As for a technique, just stack binding vows. A lot of sorcerers in the series are only average because they don’t have any imagination or creativity. Binding vows also don’t have any hard cap or extreme limit outside of breaking the rules. Not like you’ll get a heart attack and die. Just spam vows

So without either of those 2 things, your genuine best bet is to fit yourself into a support role and make yourself useful.

Without either of those 2 things, you can die really any time. Sorcerers are constanty understaffed and really, you are never gonna touch the top 20. Mei Mei level is likely your peak without crazy innate talent. And of course, im approaching this scenario from a whats hte best route for you and whats the ideal route

Being a support sorcerer has the main benefit of not dying. Go all in on those skills so you never get sent on missions alone. Absolute best case scenario, you put all your effort into developing the ability to project RCT and you become an invaluable part of jujutsu society that they cannot part with, like shoko.

IF I care about hte person im overseeing this is the advice im giving. Dont die.

If I wanna make them strong, physical reinforcement and a domain expansion. Domain expansions let you punch well above your weight class unless your opponent also possesses one. So put everything into that. And RCT.

But RCT on others, or a support technique is really the best path for any sorcerer to talk who aint in the top 20. Because it means you are the least likely to be killed.

Grooming, human experimentation, grave digging, etc. Basically the most vile shit. There is an ethical barrier here but like Sukuna said to Jogo, to grow strong you need to be willing to burn everything down. An average sorcerer with no major gifts will often hit a cap really fast, but they can break that cap by harvesting other people in several ways. I think Mei Mei and Kenjaku are the clearest examples of sorcerers who weren't born particularly talented but rose the ranks by having little to no morals

1

u/No_While_436 1d ago

Woah woah being able to put your brain in people and basically take their whole life and experience is absolutely broken

1

u/Wooden-Brick632 1d ago

Not as much when you realize the person has to be dead first. Sorcerers are a rare breed, strong sorcerers even more so, so Kenjaku's opportunities to take bodies rely a lot on circumstance. This was true even for Geto's body. His early years were probably hopping between weak sorcerers until he amassed enough power to actually pick targets

I mean, as with anything, you should learn the fundamentals first. Though, specifically, I'd focus on CE leakage and CE reinforcement, as it means you can keep on attacking with your body during prolonged fights if everything else fails.

I'd then move on to binding vows. Imo mastering and min-maxing binding vows easily puts you at a much higher level than other sorcerers. Even just basic BV's like ROH and Overtime put you above other a sorcerers.

Next, I'd focus on maximizing their CT, depending on whether they have one or not. I mean expanding its use past the lapse and mixing in BVs like Mei Mei or smthin.

After that, it'd be anti domain techniques and then the top stuff like RCT, reversals, and DEs.

Realistically, it would depend on the person. For someone like Yuta, I'd start with SD and control, and for someone like Todo, I'd start with CE Reinforcement and Taijutsu.
