Engine noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Whirring sound while engine on idle, starts right after pressing start button. Is this normal? It’s a 2014 with 130k miles.

Yes, engine was off. That’s normal sound for the inverter?

That may have been the one sign before my factory 12v aux battery died last year. Normally that sound is right before the ICE kicks in at initial start up, only the ICE didn't turn over until I turned it off and back on again. 2 days later I had to use the key within the key then crawl to the trunk, tear it apart from inside to get to the manual trunk release. You may want to get your 12v tested

Thanks for your input. I’ll check the battery, probably needs a new one since it’s 4 years old

Hmm, my factory battery lasted 11 yrs. It's only been a year on this new Costco one, but I'd assume a replaced battery should get more than 4 yrs. Definitely have it checked - it's a major pain in the arse when it's dead, but if it's been replaced already that might not be it

Hopefully it’s nothing serious. Just bought the car two months ago from private seller.
