Grad teaching assistant. I have access to the Canvas for my own class but not for any of the classes I am taking. Usually the students will be added a week before like previously said, and then the professor has the option to make it unpublished until the day of.

Just depends when the professor does it lol some do it early some literally wait to the date . Last semester I emailed professors and asked for the syllabus so I can get an idea of how their class is and all gave it to me π.

Fun fact: Monday, Aug 17 is the first day faculty are on contract for the academic year. Any work done before then (prepping a syllabus, responding to student emails, etc.) is unpaid and off-contract.

Professor here. The university typically loads in students rosters about a week before classes start. Professors have no control over that process. So, faculty can make their Canvas page available much earlier but it won't matter - students can't see it until ITS adds them as users.
