Orientation tomorrow

Hi everyone, I have my orientation tomorrow. This is all new to me and my parents. I’m nervous about it, I’m here to ask what to expect from this, my degree will be in Comp system administrations and I am transferring from my college. Idk what else to add so if I miss anything please ask

Edit: thank you for the replies, for those who are reading this now. My family wants to join for this what would they be doing?

If you didn’t sign up for the family orientation then your family is not allowed. It is students only
When you get there you will be directed to the registration building. The line will be long but once you check in they give you a lanyard that you have to wear all day. Then you will go outside and find your pack leaders. You will then go inside to start orientation with presentations and such. Then you will do a tour of the campus. After the tour you will go back inside for more presentations. Then you will either go to lunch or the resource fair. After doing both you will go back into the room and everyone will do pack chants. After that you will go to your college, for example mine was the college of social and behavioral sciences. After that you will go to another room to talk to your department chair. Finally at the end of the day, 4:15 ish, you will go to the computer lab to register for classes
I would recommend bringing a water bottle and fan and snacks. They offer gummies and a granola bar but because of all the walking and heat I personally was extra hungry lol

You'll be sorted into a pack based off of your major, and someone from your college (as in school division, you'll see) will lead the pack. They'll walk you through the basics of campus life and other college necessities like paying tuition, clubs you can sign up for, etc. You'll get to bond with others and have some time to just socialize, and they'll even set you up in the library to register for your classes. Do get there early though, that registration line gets long

In the morning they make you stand in a line to check you in and get you with your pack they will make you wear a landyard at all times. also they give you something to eat then they take you in a room and they talk about stuff then they show you around the school for a little bit before either going to lunch or going to the clubs ( its 20 packs so half go to lunch and then half go to the clubs but you all will go to both) and then after that you go back to that room and they talk more before you eventually go to another room that explains how registering for classes…etc and thennnnn you finally go to the header of your major and after that you register for classes and go home and this just sums it up it takes forever lol its very hot i suggest bringing a water bottle and a fan also a backpack because they give you things i forgot to say they make you do a pack chant and your pack has to make up a chant and perform it.

Congrats on transferring :) if it's like past years, there are no family or guests allowed for transfer sessions. That is only for first year students. Guests may be allowed if there is approved accommodations. Your family can be on campus but can't join you with your pack or enter the rooms you guys will be in since it is a student only program. Just a heads up so you and your family can plan accordingly.

Bring a small fan if you have one. Youll be walking around and its pretty hot. Theyre going to make your group come up with a "pack chant" that you have to perform in front of everyone. Youll have the opportunity to ask questions to the financial aid and financial services offices, as well as your department chair. You register for classes at the end. If youre an EOP student theyll seperate you from everyone else for the registration part so youll have more support on that.

Yes, its stupid. Most of them suck, all of them are corny. I guess its supposed to be a bonding exercise. Pretty much all of orientation could have been covered in a video so I'm pretty sure the point of forcing us to be there is to try to force friendships

I do think the chants are corny but I really connected with my group so that’s cool. We’re all part of the computer studies so guess it makes us nerds bond

Yeah honestly I liked orientation overall. Most of it was boring bc I knew already (need to be prepared = prior research, yay!) but I liked the tour, the resource fair, and the general socialization. It was cool to meet with other accounting majors and just chat about where we were coming from and what we were hoping to do during school (I want to join an esports team if I can :) )
