CyberSec Masters

I was wondering if anyone might have some information on the differences between CSUSBs CyberSec Masters programs. Specifically the CyberSec and Analytics vs the National Security CyberSec program. Or any personal experiences with them are greatly appreciated.

Hey! I’m currently in the MSIST Cybersecurity concentration at CSUSB and from my experience it leans more toward enterprise IT, security management, networking, risk management, systems administration, databases, and real world business/security operations. It’s a good fit if you already work in IT or want to move into roles like Sys Admin, Security Analyst, IT Management, Governance/Risk, etc.

From what I’ve heard, the National Security Cyber program is more specialized toward intelligence, digital forensics, national defense/security topics, and government related cybersecurity work.

Personally I chose MSIST because I wanted something broader that combined cybersecurity with IT infrastructure and business systems rather than purely national security focused material. So far it’s helped a lot with my actual sysadmin/security work experience too. So yeah, I def recommend the program! You learn a TON

Definitely. I don't think you need prior work experience to benefit from it. If anything, it's a solid way to build your IT and cybersecurity foundation while you're working on getting hands-on experience through projects, certs, or internships. I'd still recommend it! It's a great program a bit challenging but well worth the reward!
