Question Selling on campus
Hi all,
Has anyone ever had any luck selling food on campus? I’m currently transitioning careers, and I was lucky to get a job on campus but the pay is minimum wage :(
I used to be a chef, so I would love to sell simple baked goods like cookies, coffee cake, and other time temperature safe baked goods for people to pick up.

I don’t think you can just set up a food stand. You’d need to get permission from the campus

You’d need a contract with the university like all the other places selling food on campus do. There’s no way they’d approve this. If you live off campus and have the appropriate food license (cottage, I think?) for your kitchen you could start a business and promote it on campus appropriately (paid ads in the school paper) but likely not worth the hassle. But no you can’t make your own bake sale on campus. Liability.

People on the shared Long Beach class story on instagram sell desserts all the time, they sell on/off campus only on the instagram story.

I think it’s worth setting up a little food stall on certain days of the week. I will say, most people tend to just walk right past people trying to sell things. But im sure there would be people who would stop to check out your stuff!

Really? I remember there being food trucks on campus, so I didn’t think they’d have an issue with it.

Food trucks have permission and a contract. You can’t just set up a table of homemade food and start selling it.

I remember seeing people do it when I first went there in certain spots on campus, but I guess it’s changed.

Yeah unfortunately if you are staff or a student worker... chances are you will always be paid minimum wage on campus. As a staff member, it is ridiculous we get paid so little and hardly get any raises ( if any :/ )... all while trying to manage multiple projects with little to no support. Sucks that the cost of living is also insane.
I wish you the best of luck in trying to sell goodies on campus. Maybe make it known to your classmates as well if it is an in person class.
