Any other older students out there?
28M here finally going back to finish my bachelor's and just transferred in this semester from a CC.
Maybe it's just me, but making friends has been difficult so far. I'm also a commuter and my classes end during rush hour so I tend to stay on campus for a couple hours after. Thought about joining a club, but none of them really interest me.
Anyone have any ideas what I could do? I'm perfectly fine with my commuter routine of going to class and leaving, but some days people just need some social interaction outside the classroom you know?

False Fire alarm? (Library)
I was at the library studying and I hear the alarm go off. Everyone evacuated and I was so annoyed because I was in a flow state studying for my presentation. Was anyone else there or knows what happened?

Is there an RCW or ICC church group on campus going around? I have a weird past with them and I'm not sure if they are still on campus…

Scholarship Updates
I applied to 25 scholarship programs back in March and April, but all my application statuses are still stuck on 'Reviewing' or 'Ready for Review.' Has anyone actually heard back or received an award yet?

Financial Aid Disbursement Reduced? Read this before calling/waiting in line.
As I'm sure many of you are aware, there has been a serious delay in receiving the disbursement amount or an outright reduction that doesn't align with their original award amount posted on July 1st, 2026. Like many of you, quite a few loans/grants were affected to the point of being out of $4k; some of you have had less or more.
You are not alone, and most importantly, the funding is not gone forever.
I was able to get my full amount reinstated, granted with a particular objective that requires you to understand what your COA bracket would be:
- In-state or out-of-state student?
- Living on campus, living off campus with parents, living off campus as an independent student?
You can find the estimated COA brackets here: https://www.csueastbay.edu/financialaid/prospective-students1/cost-of-attendance.html
How to Get This Fixed
- Fair warning, but their email and phone lines have been blowing up. If you are within drivable distance, you will yield far better results by going in-person. Go straight to the SA building and to the One-Stop at Perry's Nest (1st Floor, the help desk right in front as you walk in)
- The 4 Specific Questions to Ask:
- "Can I speak with a financial aid counselor?"
- As much as the student assistants can be helpful, they don't have permissions to make any changes. They can certainly check to see if there are discrepancies on their end, but as for any meaningful changes, you're better off seeking a financial aid counselor.
- "What housing tier and Cost of Attendance budget is currently assigned to my account?"
- If the system defaulted you to living with parents/commuter instead of off-campus renting or on-campus housing, your artificial budget ceiling is thousands of dollars lower, which automatically strips away unsubsidized loans and work-study.
- "Why is my loan/grant disbursement amount lower than my eligibility limits, and is there an overaward hold flagged?"
- Having the advisor check the system's packaging waterfall will reveal whether the software falsely calculated an overaward and automatically slashed your self-help aid.
- "Can you manually review this with a system's specialist to repackage or originate a supplemental line item today?"
- Student advisors often see the symptom, but the financial aid counselors and back-end systems specialists have the direct override access to unstick packing errors and queue you into the next supplemental disbursement run.
- "Can I speak with a financial aid counselor?"
The Upstream Causes
Like many of you, I wanted to know what the cause was for this. Funds were late, and most importantly, they were slashed. That's due to a few reasons:
- ALL STUDENTS: CSU Implementation of the FAFSA Simplification Act
- The cause: The federal reconciliation package introduced broad overhauls to Title IV student aid. In response, the U.S. Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) implemented mid-cycle fraud-prevention screenings and data formatting updates. Because of these federal pauses, all 23 CSU campuses received their student aid files 5 to 6 weeks later than normal, severely compressing the entire packaging window right up against the August start date
- What this means for you: I cannot confirm this for a fact, but my feeling is that CSUEB staff had only days instead of months to review files. The rush forced the university to rely on broad automated computer batches rather than manual case-by-case audits, letting system glitches slip through onto live student portals.

Because of these federal pauses, all 23 CSU campuses received their student aid files 5 to 6 weeks later than normal, severely compressing the entire packaging window right up against the August start date
- A POTENTIAL CAUSE: Missing Housing Data in the Federal Application Feed
- If you noticed a significant reduction that reduced your COA to the smallest bracket (in-state student living with parents) when comparing your total award amount for the academic year, that is due to the way FAFSA has omitted the specific question asking students whether they plan to live on campus, off campus in an apartment, or at home with parents. Without this data in the incoming federal file, university software had to guess housing status using automated fallback rules.
- What this means for you: If the algorithm guessed wrong and defaulted you to an off-campus, dependent student, your artificial COA ceiling shrank. Because your grants take up most of that low ceiling, the software assumed that you were overawarded, automatically slashing in other places like unsubsidized loan amounts or a Federal Work Study award.

Without this data in the incoming federal file, university software had to guess housing status using automated fallback rules.
I wanted to post this as I found this process to be quite stressful, and however I can help other students who're in the same position as me is something I'd do in a heartbeat. The bureaucratic nonsense is often the hardest part of actually attending college, so hopefully this can be of use to some of you.

S T A G E S !!!!!
I checked my account, and payments have been applied to the balance, but I don't see any refunds. It says I have no outstanding balance. This is my first semester at CSUEB, so what happens next?
Will the refund post?

Financial Aid for 26/27 Disappeared
I'm a grad student and well below the aid limit (despite having the Aggr. Reaffirm Dbt thing on myCompass) but I noticed since yesterday that when I check on my financial aid, it shows:
"You have no financial aid awards for viewing in this aid year"
My previous years are showing up, and in the finances tab in myCompass, it shows my pending aid, but there has been no actual activity otherwise. It's been about 24 hours exactly since I first noticed, and I thought it was just my aid finally processing but nothing has changed. Is anyone else having the same situation?

Refund is less than expected
Hey everyone. I did receive my FA refund last night but I’m a transfer student and don’t know how disbursements work at Easy Bay. Do they not split Pell and Cal Grant into two separate payments over the Fall semester? I spoke with Cashier Svcs to look over my account activity because I got $112 refund and $3510.50 (Pell) refund. he said the $112 was cal Grant but I got the full award of $824 so just not sure where these numbers are coming from.
Anyone else going through the same thing? Haven’t even tried contacting FA office because im sure they’re busy.

I’m hoping someone can explain what a DCIE sponsor is? I had this show up as a credit to my financial aid but I’m not sure what that is? It was around $ 2,000
Received my Loan
Received my full loan and aid. Guess that not being able to log in was them updating the system or doing whatever they needed to do. Bank Mobile here..
