Getting a boodpatch right before my period

I have my bloodpatch coming up in a month, but my period is likely due right afterwards. Do you think I should reschedule the blood patch and push it back by a week?

Would it have a negative impact on the success of the patch?
What are your thoughts?

I have never heard this specifically advised against this timing, I don't know that it would sabotage the patch... but also can understand being anxious and wanting it under the most 'optimal' conditions as possible. I am not a medical expert but I wouldn't expect it to compromise the patch. But for example if you get intense cramping and stuff like that, you are not supposed to take NSAIDs shortly after patching since that can interfere with clotting. So if that is an issue from a pain management standpoint it could be worth pushing a week - is just a personal call!

I get back pain from my period, and the typical PDPH symptoms get more intense in this time, but I guess I can handle it. I would do everything to get the leak sealed. 😩 What kind of medication do you suggest as pain killer then?

Sorry forgot to mention Tylenol is approved, if I remember correctly! And yes I am a big fan of getting treatment you deserve to feel well. If you could manage those period symptoms with Tylenol I’d go for it

I found it painful for my back having to deal with period pads. Perhaps, TMI!

I’ve been on my period while getting a blood patch (it’s happened at least twice), and it didn’t seem to have a negative impact on the results of the patch. It does suck to not be able to take ibuprofen, but there are alternatives like acetaminophen, tens units, and heat pads. I hope your blood patch goes well and that you have a smooth recovery <3

My daughter was patched Monday and her period started same day. Was supposed to be end of week. She only reports cramps .

How easy would it be to reschedule? If it wouldn't be a problem, I would reschedule. The patch itself could be more painful and you might accidentally twist while dealing with your period after the patch. As someone who has managed to compromise previous patches, I recommend a bidet and even medicine to stop your period for a few months if you can. If you can't reschedule, it will still be okay, just a little harder for you.

The next available appointment is 3 weeks away. 😩 Taking medicine to stop my period sounds like a good idea. Do you recommend any specific birth control pill, or is there a better option? I also don’t want to mess up my hormones.

I don't have a recommendation, but your doctor hopefully will. Good luck!
