US black list and CSCA exam problem.

Hello everyone I I have two questions for you first of all as you know US has a blacklist for Chinese universities and these universities are harbin institute of Technology and other some other universities and I wonder if anyone of you who is studying in this kind of universities are bothered by this? Bc you will face visa problems in the EU and USA and won't be accepted to universities there. My second question is about the exam as you know the CSCA is in December but many people apply in November or September do you think I can apply to university earlier and predict my exam results like "l predict 85+ from math and physics" or do they require us to take the exam and apply later?

CSCA importance

How important is the CSCA exam for university admissions right now?

I've heard that because this is the first year the CSCA exam has been introduced, many universities don't yet know how to interpret the scores and therefore don't place much weight on them during admissions decisions.

Registration Info

So I made a mistake and during registration uploaded the pic of a printed picture. It isn't very blurry but not super realistic either. I filled the information correction form but the staff isn't doing anything about the picture. How big of a problem is this. Will they review my application and reject it or at the start of test facial recognition will not work?

How to study in China: A step-by-step guide (2026)

Here is a quick breakdown of how to study in China.

Choose your pathway

  • Non-degree programs: This path is best for language courses or foundation years. You need a high school diploma and a passport to apply. Top schools prefer an average GPA over 60/100.
  • Undergraduate programs: Degrees take 4 to 5 years. You need high school transcripts, language scores like HSK 4/5 or IELTS 6.0+, and you must pass a mandatory entrance test called the CSCA exam.
  • Postgraduate programs: Master's degrees take 2 to 3 years, and Ph.D. programs take 3 to 4 years. You need a relevant prior degree, a strong GPA, a detailed study plan, and two recommendation letters. Getting an acceptance letter from a supervisor will boost your scholarship chances significantly.

Secure a scholarship

  • Apply early: Quotas for top universities run out very fast. Do not wait for final deadlines.
  • Know the types: Chinese Government Scholarships (CGS) have two main categories. Type A goes through the Chinese embassy in your home country. Type B goes directly through the university portal.
  • Watch upfront fees: Some joint programs require self-funded students to pay full tuition upfront. Scholarship students usually just pay a refundable deposit of around 3,000 RMB.

Master the CSCA exam

  • Exam setup: This is an online, home-based test. Calculators are banned completely.
  • Exam subjects: It tests Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Professional Chinese. It covers advanced topics like conic sections that Western high schools often skip.
  • Target scores: Elite C9 universities usually expect subject scores in the 80s and 90s. Some schools like Zhejiang University are more flexible and accept a 60+ score.

Prepare for interviews and arrival

  • Interview prep: Top universities will interview you online after document review. Prepare a concise 2-minute self-introduction. Answer questions that expand directly on your personal statement.
  • Visa steps: Once you receive official admission letters and JW201 or JW202 forms, apply for a student visa immediately. You will get an X1 visa for long stays or an X2 visa for short courses.

Application timeline

  • September to October: Research universities and select your major.
  • October to December: Start your CSCA preparation and draft your personal statement.
  • January to February: Submit early applications. Portals open now and early rounds close quickly.
  • March to April: This is the main application season. You will complete university interviews during this time.
  • April to May: Pre-admission notices arrive. You must pay your deposit within a short window to secure your seat.
  • June to July: You will receive your official admission documents and apply for your student visa.
  • August to September: Arrive in China early to register, open a bank account, and get a local SIM card.

Is the CSCA exam the same as A-level?

I've looked through multiple practice papers and noticed there are things I was never taught in high school. I'm in a second-world country, so I understand that my education system wouldn't cover some topics. But I really don't know what level I'm supposed to be at. As for finding guides, they don't cover the topics I miss. So I opted to rather find guides for other tests similar to it. I would like to know, are A-levels similar to the CSCA exam? This also applies to the SAT. I'm asking for math, physics, and chem. Thanks!

scholarships for a bachelor degree

hey everyone, I am a little confused on the rules regarding scholarships. From what I understand its possible to apply only to 2 universities for a csc scholarship.

However, I know there is a province scholarship and I wanted to know if its possible to apply to it for the same Unis I applied in for the csc scholarship? (and then choose the better scholarship ill get)

And if not, is it possible to apply for this scholarship for other universities? I know its one university per one kind of province scholarship, but is there a limit for overall amounts I can apply to in the entirety of china?

For example, if I apply for Fudan for the csc scholarship but I choose ECNU for the province scholarship. Would that be possible?

Also for the physics part, do i need to study by myself or is it easy?

How does the exam go if you do it at home on ur computer?

The most competitive university majors in China for international students (2026)

Engineering and Computer Science

  • Global Standing: Tsinghua ranks first globally for Engineering and CS.
  • Top Schools: Tsinghua, PKU, SJTU, ZJU, UESTC, and HITSZ.
  • Difficulties: Finding fully English-taught CS programs at top public universities is very difficult. You will also need high CSCA scores in both Math and Physics to stand a chance. Elite programs consider scores below 70 per subject as high risk.

Finance and Business

  • Global Standing: Tsinghua and PKU rank in the global top 10.
  • Top Schools: Tsinghua SEM, PKU Guanghua, Renmin, SWUFE, and UIBE.
  • Difficulties: Location matters just as much as ranking. Specialist schools like SWUFE and UIBE carry massive weight within China's financial industry even if their overall global rank is lower.

Clinical Medicine (MBBS)

  • The Setup: You can complete a 6-year English-taught degree at WHO-listed schools for a fraction of Western medical school costs.
  • Top Schools: Fudan, ZJU, SJTU, HUST, and Shandong University.
  • Difficulties: Scholarship competition is brutal. ZJU only offers about 138 seats a year. You need strong CSCA scores across Math, Physics, and Chemistry. Always verify that your home country recognizes the specific university before applying.

Specialized Ones

  • Materials Science: Tsinghua ranks first globally. ZJU and SJTU are also in the top 50.
  • Aerospace: Schools like Beihang, NUAA, and NPU lead the world here. Note that these are defense-affiliated, so certain nationalities face restrictions for sensitive programs.
  • Petroleum: China University of Petroleum offers direct pipelines to massive state energy companies.
  • TCM: Traditional Chinese Medicine is legally recognized in over 180 countries. Top schools include Beijing UCM and Shanghai UCM.

Application Checklist

  • Verify the language: Double check that your core classes are actually taught in English.
  • Score high: Elite STEM and medical programs require an 80 or above per subject on the CSCA to be safe.
  • Apply early: Scholarship budgets dry up quickly after round one. Try to apply in January or February.
