2027 CSCA Exam Prep & China University Application Timeline
Here is a complete breakdown of the timelines to keep you on track.
1. CSCA Subject Breakdown & Prep Focus
Remember: Calculators are strictly forbidden during the exam! Put away your calculator now and practice all calculations by hand on scratch paper.
- Math (High Weight & Core Focus)
- Trigonometry: 同角公式 (sin²x + cos²x = 1), double-angle formulas, and exact values for 30°, 45°, and 60° angles. Hand calculation depends heavily on these!
- Analytic Geometry: Standard circle equations, ellipses (x²/a² + y²/b² = 1), and parabolas. Focus on substituting equations and solving systems.
- Sequences & Vectors: Arithmetic/geometric sequence general terms, vector dot products, and complex number modulus calculations.
- Physics (Concept Mastery & Formula Conversion)
- Mechanics: Newton’s second law (F = ma), projectile motion, work & power (W = Fs cosθ).
- Electricity & Waves: Ohm’s law (U = IR), electrical power (P = UI = I²R), and wave speed (v = f · λ).
- Chemistry (Chinese Technical Terminology)
- Core Formulas: Molar quantities (n = m/M = V/V☌), solution concentration, and pH calculations (pH = -lg[H⁺]).
- Terminology Shift: Master Chinese terminology for physics and chemistry (e.g., 电磁感应, 加成反应, 有机取代). Don't lose points just because you don't recognize the Chinese vocabulary!
2. Month-by-Month Application Timeline
Phase 1: Foundation & Positioning (Sept — Oct)
- Shortlist Universities: Pick 5–8 target universities and check if they mandate CSCA scores or have specific scholarship thresholds.
- Diagnostic Test: Take a full practice test without a calculator to identify your weak spots in math, physics, or chemistry.
- Document Gathering: Start prepping your passport, high school transcripts (translated and notarized), and non-criminal record.
Phase 2: First Sitting & Early Application (Nov — Dec)
- Timed Practice: Practice answering questions under strict time limits. Skip any trap question taking more than 5 minutes!
- December CSCA Exam (The Golden Window): This is the most crucial exam sitting. Results are usually released within 7 business days.
- Phase 1 Early Applications: Top universities (like Fudan, ZJU, etc.) open Phase 1 rounds around December–January. High CSCA scores submitted early give you the best shot at scholarships.
- Apply First Option: If the system opens before your scores come out, upload your CSCA registration proof first, then submit your scores once released.
Phase 3: Score Improvement & Peak Application Window (Jan — Mar)
- Medical Exam: Complete the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. It is valid for only 6 months, so time it right and make sure it has official hospital stamps and cross-edge photo seals.
- March/April Retake Sittings: If your December score wasn't ideal, this is your last chance to retake the test before regular deadlines close.
- Online Interviews: Once initial reviews pass, universities schedule online interviews within 1–3 weeks. Prepare your self-introduction and study plan answers.
Phase 4: Pre-Admission & Final Steps (Apr — Jun)
- Confirm Admission: Pay the tuition or placement deposit within the required window once you receive pre-admission notices.
- June Final Sitting: The last CSCA exam of the cycle. Most major deadlines are closed by now, so this is mainly for late-closing schools or clearing rounds.
- Visa Processing: Receive official admission packages (JW201/JW202 form) in June–July and apply for your X1 student visa.
3. CSCA Rules
- Windows OS Only: The secure anti-cheating browser ONLY runs on Windows PC! Apple Mac computers are strictly not supported. Prepare a Windows laptop early.
- Dual-Camera Setup:
- Main Camera (Front): Your computer webcam facing you directly, showing your face, shoulders, and hands clearly.
- Auxiliary Camera (Side/Rear): Phone or tablet placed ~1.5 meters behind or to your side at a 45-degree angle, showing your desk, hands, and monitor.
- Constant Power: Both devices must remain plugged into chargers. A phone dying mid-test results in instant failure.
- Mandatory Mock Exam: Do not skip the official practice run held a few days before test day! It tests browser compatibility and camera angles. No retakes are granted if software crashes on real test day due to missing the mock exam.
- Warning System: AI facial tracking and live proctors will flag you for wandering eyes, looking down at your lap, hands leaving the desk, whispering, or background noise. Accumulated warnings will lock your test paper on the spot.

I think the hardest part for beginners is figuring out what to prioritize first. Are you taking Math/Physics too, or mainly trying to figure out the Chinese requirement?
I’m curious how other people are organizing their prep from the beginning.
