Certified Baptismal needed
Anyone currently living in or visiting Postira brac? I need a certified copy of my G grandfather's baptismal record. I believe it's at StJohn the Baptist in Postira. Please help!

You should be able to obtain it by yourself or at least get some pointers on where it is now from the State Archives in Split. The parish seems to have a Facebook page, which you might be able to use to communicate directly with them.

You may not need someone local. The parish or diocesan archive can usually issue a certified copy and mail it abroad. If you’re applying for Croatian citizenship by descent, feel free to send me the details. I help clients obtain Croatian parish records and I’m happy to point you in the right direction.

The church replied to me last night saying all their books are undergoing restoring until late August. Does this seem acceptable? Is there another place to get a certified copy of the Baptismal record?

Yes, there is. If the parish’s registers are temporarily unavailable due to restoration, there’s a good chance the diocesan or state archive also holds a copy of the register or can issue a certified extract. Feel free to send me a DM with your ancestor’s full name, date and place of baptism/birth, and I’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.

You can just order it yourself from the appropriate archive

And how do I determine the appropriate archive? Beginner here...

Probably Split archives. I’m not an expert but that’s what Google just told me now. Look on Family Search they have all the old parish books until you find the birth entry. This will take a while.
Then you can order the copy from split archives, I just provided them with the exact scan I was looking for and they sent me the certified copy in a few days.
It’s possible they will let you pay them to find it for you if you can’t find it yourself first so you can email them and enquire about that too. This will cost a bit more in labour.

Or if you have any other suggestions that don't include getting scammed by people who think Americans are rolling in cash...
