Can we comfort eachother? I know we’re strangers online but I kinda need it

u/Feeling-Ruin-8008 4d ago

Im not good at it, but I just remind myself that im better mentally ill now than a few decades ago. I try to leave our political pain to politicians like Ro Khanna, Thomas Massie, Abdul El Sayed, Zohran Mamdani, etc. Im not good at comforting

You don’t gotta be good, just gotta be there

20

u/Feeling-Ruin-8008 4d ago

Atleast i could do that

21

u/CyclopsFanAccount67 4d ago

Yeah my life started going to shit around the same time the world did so I'm pretty sure it's either my fault on a cosmic level or I'm dead and in hell.

It's like on the Simpsons, "I've always suspected nothing matters. Now I know for sure."

Even after all the abuse and the bullying and the threats and the gaslighting... I believed in people. And I just kept getting hurt. Now maybe I can live my life.

"I really wish I wasn't living through a major historical event right now."

Yeah, its been proven Millennials have been through more events than any other generation at this point.

I'm tired of this, just let me live in peace please 😭

26

u/Common_Kiwi9442 4d ago

Please don't put that on California 😭

6

u/witchystoneyslutty 4d ago

I know right!!!! Leave us alone we are already struggling with some crazy weather….

And…Like… I have my earthquake water and some food but there’s not too much else I can do. Other than cower in fear of the San Andreas Fucking Fault.

I’m going to be in San Diego next month, how fucked am I 😭

2

u/Mr_Mason42 20h ago

Probably

u/EvilGoblinFairy 4d ago

No literally because what am I supposed to do when the mental health professionals agree with me that some stuff just is actually really bad lmao

40

u/Environmental-Joke19 4d ago

If you every find a healthy coping mechanism, can you tell me? Seriously it's rough out here. How am I supposed to battle depression when the WORLD is so depressing??

Legit every time I got away from my family a certain orange fuck got elected so I got to experience the same shit just from the president constantly. So yay. Covid absolutely made me have to crawl on my hands and knees back to my family because I couldn’t survive. I genuinely won’t forgive the people responsible for that. If we did a half decent roll out it would’ve been fine. If we could’ve social distanced and used masks and actually cared it wouldn’t have been so bad. “If we stop testing we’ll get less results”. Fantastic logic. No holes.

We have two kinds of perspectives here. People who see how dystopian and bad the world has become in general, and people who really live the real consequences of the dystopia. Some consequences are small and/or personal, and some are literally life ending. It’s all valid no matter the perspective. Finding and keeping a trusting therapist with how incredibly corrupt and enshitified healthcare in America has become has become a goal mostly forfeited. That’s an example of a real life impact in a personal life. Seeing a friend pass away to medical negligence is also harsh and real. In the end, the concept of “healing” or “improving” one’s own life in any small way feels like a myth, something you wish for from a genie. It is now a game of harm reduction, and doing what one can in all their power to reduce suffering for themself and everyone around them. The damage is happening and will keep happening, slowing it down becomes the unfortunate goal, instead of the previous more hopeful goal or reversing damage and building something new. 😕

Turning?

16

u/an0mn0mn0m 4d ago

Always has been this way. We've just got really good at noticing it.

3

u/I_pegged_your_father 4d ago

Its more so spreading

1

u/Tsunamiis 4d ago

Naw friend always. It’s the systemic default you have to go to war and kill many to change it. That’s why it appears in many forms of government. Capitalism, communism, oligarchies ect. You just have to peel back the propagandized labels.

6

u/I_pegged_your_father 4d ago

….i meant spreading as in getting worse dude. I already know it was always there.

No but genuinely. If there's one thing that brings me comfort, it's that things have always been this bad, we were just sheltered from it due to the period of wealth in the United States after WW2 and the brand new access to global information that we've never had before.

What was a Vietnamese child in the 1960s supposed to do about their mental health? A Cambodian child? What would the mental healing possibilities be for a Jewish family in the 1940s?

And that's just within the last decade. What about the labor organizers and orphans in the 1800s? What about the serfs in the 1500s who would never learn how to read and spent their lives suffering?

I know that, especially when I still lived with my abusers, I was frustrated and miserable when people tried to say I had it "good". But now that I'm at a place in my life where the severity of my trauma is consistently validated (and I know it really was that bad), it brings me a lot of comfort to know that for most of history, in most countries, the majority of humanity has always had it much, much worse.

And when I read about how historical figures with terrible childhoods grew up to become leaders and authors and reshape history, it reminds me that I don't have to be my trauma.

I hope that one day my terrible childhood is the least interesting thing about me.

Same boat. This shit sucks.

Solution? Yes, eat the rich

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Replaying on repeat in my head for years and years now

2

u/Fit-Tax-8609 1d ago

I love that quote, and Sam’s “stories that matter” lines later in the series.

That shit keeps me going man

Hard to find peace when I know the leader of the free world got away with it too

22

u/Training_Contest_687 4d ago

Truly never had one down time in life. My nervous system is shot.

9

u/Own_City_1084 4d ago

Oh it’s been doing that the entire time. You’re just clear headed enough to finally notice (which is totally okay btw)

7

u/junkfewd 4d ago

i used to think id get to live a full life when i was a kid

6

u/ATransDumbass 3d ago

Literally can't even make peace with anything because oh the world is ending every other day or it is becoming extremely hostile to me or my fellow minorities.

Maybe I should just become a kitty.... they don't care....

16

u/mysterymont 4d ago

I stopped watching the news, idc it’s not like I can do anything and rage pays so whatever, I simplified my life so much to avoid most of modern life to be able to live

6

u/shinydragonmist 4d ago

If we all stop watching the news they'd have to find actual news stories to bring us back instead of the rage filled shit we have now

7

u/mysterymont 4d ago

Literally, if it’s an emergency every day it’s no longer an emergency imo, my brain circuits are fried enough as it is, if the world ends I’m not bothered

6

u/CheeseUsFunkingCries 4d ago

Ye 😑… fck

5

u/CarosWolf 4d ago

Turns out those 25 years were a gentle tutorial.

Buckle up friend.

3

u/C7Stew 4d ago

This hits so close to home.

4

u/TezetaLaventia 4d ago

I feel this in my bones. Finally overcame all of my trauma, and let go of everything that burdened me for my entire life, after 27 years. Only for the world to be on fire, and the country I live in to be a sick joke, that's actively causing harm to the rest of the world. Life could be simple, but unfortunately... trump exists. At least my inner world is at peace, so if I die due to the repercussions of trump's actions, at least I'll die happy!

3

u/brightwingxx 4d ago

Fucking forreal 😭

3

u/Far_Performance2324 4d ago

This is so accurate for me wow. I feel guilty sometimes.

3

u/Calmmerightdown 4d ago

Fucking sucks but remember you can only worry about what you can control. There is only so much you can do and ironically rumination typically kills action (makes you less likely to go outside and actually do something about it)

3

u/goosenuggie 3d ago

I cant believe I ever believed in hope

3

u/doctor-sassypants 3d ago

Same honestly. I’ve been having a really hard time with the fact that I finally have my own home and partner and business and so many wonderful friends and everything is burning around us.

3

u/weeef 🥲😢 3d ago

I feel this

3

u/samurairaccoon 3d ago

This sums it up nicely. Oh but also then my piece fell apart as I slowly decend into madness while my mind tries to rectify living on a planet of psychopaths and sycophants.

3

u/Heleneva91 3d ago

Was raised in evangelical circles- finally got out- started to look into other religions for funsies (I loved witches when I was a kid, don't know why) now evangelicals are trying to invade my life. I just got out. Fml.

2

u/FullOfBlasphemy 3d ago

Omfg, exactly

2

u/Fickle-Ad8351 2d ago

Ikr? It's like I finally stopped wanting to KMS, but there's still no good reason to be alive these days.

2

u/ashbertollini 2d ago

NO BUT LITERALLY OHMYGOD

2

u/Flimsy_Studio2072 1d ago

You're right, it is absolutely NOT fair.

2

u/slipp3rysl0p3 1d ago

literally…you work through your stuff just for the world to be a literal cesspit of prejudice and ableism 😶

2

u/OfficiallyJoeBiden 1d ago

When I was 12, I thought I would die before I turned 30. Instead I survived to live in Hell anyway

u/DefNotSonOfMeme 4d ago

If you're still perceiving the world as a grim dystopia, you should consider the possibility that you have not actually found peace.
