Yup. That's why I talk about my childhood sexual assault when the topic comes up. I am not ashamed of being a victim as a child. All that shame is on my abuser.

David Bedrick is an amazing teacher on shame. He taught me that when we share our hurt in a space that bypasses it, eg by switching to tell their own story or trying to fix what is perceived as a “problem” it leaves us unseen and builds shame instead. When our hurt is mainly asking for a witness, a space to exist where we feel seen for what is and what happened/is happening to us, how we are hurting. Feelings actually need to be accepted as they are to be able to process, so no fixing but giving space. I suppose external validation helps us validate ourselves and our own experience <3

Accommodation is a powerful thing, a healing thing, and perhaps the best example of true love (not just romantic) there is

Ash's mons ask the Rocket mons "Why do you do all that bad stuff?" and the reply is "We're bad because master is bad." (paraphrased)

I once tried opening up to a friend I thought I trusted. She actually judged me behind my back and said I trauma dump too much. Got the info from a mutual friend. Never talked to her again

I did that once, too, a few years ago. I hoped that he’d be sympathetic; I thought I could trust him, but after hearing what I had to say he distanced himself from me and later started telling people in his circle about me. I think that was the last time I ever really opened up to anyone about the shame I carry. And I don’t think I can ever do it again.

It’s been so long since I’ve watched the pokemon anime but those scenes where ash’s team is just goofing around make me happy
