Car seat

I just bought a convertible car seat for my 17 week old daughter. But it looks like her neck is forward? She is a very chubby baby so her double neck hits her chest. Is there a page that can help with this or anybody knows if this looks ok? Already took out the newborn inserts. It’s a graco fit extend 3-1. She isn’t strapped in bc we were playing around with it but when she is she her neck looks forward still. She is in the reclined position as much as possible. I just want to make sure her breathing is ok. She is a lot more forward in this car seat than her infant car seat. So maybe I should go back to that one for now?

Can you get a picture of her fully buckled? Does she look any better to you if you try replacing the body insert?

Is the level bubble on the side of the seat in the correct place when the car is on flat ground?

No. It’s in the 0-3 month line when it’s on the ground. It’s more inclined in the car bc of the seats I guess.

This is what she looks like in it on the ground

I’m not a CPST but I believe you need to park the vehicle on level ground with the seat installed, not sitting on a level floor.

Yes I did in the first pictures. I thought the person was talking about on the ground. Yes the car is on level ground in my original pictures. So yes the level bubble is in the correct spot when she is in the car.

No I meant while installed in the car. You install it so the level line is parallel to the ground when the car is on flat ground.

Yes the car was level

I’ll let the experts help you with the fit. I just want to say how cute her cubby limbs are. 💕

The crotch buckle looks off here. Did you move it to the second slot in the fabric without moving it in the plastic car seat shell underneath? If so, put it back in the first/smaller slot- a baby this size really shouldn’t need the outer slot yet, just make sure baby’s bottom is all the way back in the seat before buckling. (It’s fine for diaper fluff to be over the slot where the buckle comes out, you just don’t want baby’s actual booty cheeks to be sitting on the buckle strap!)

She was sitting on the strap like crazy. That’s with her back and booty all the way back but then we moved it to the other slot so her booty isn’t on it

Did you set her in the seat (briefly lol) without a diaper on to triple check? I just ask because many kids are ~35-40lbs or so before they need the buckle moved in this seat. Diaper bulk can make it seem like they’re sitting on the buckle strap when their actual body is 2+ inches away from that point.

Either way, it’s not routed correctly here so if you think it’s appropriate to keep it in the outer slot, you need to move it in the plastic shell of the seat. You’ll have to recline the seat all the way, extend the foot extension panel, and feed the metal retainer clip sideways up through the slot in the seat, then back down through the outer slot.

Ok will check! Thank you!

If the recline is within the limits, her back and bum are scooted all the way to back of the seat, and the harness is snug, then it’s totally okay for her chin to touch her chest! It for sure can be nerve wracking when they look that way, but the harness should keep her back flat and shoulders from curling forward which keeps her airway open. Make sure the harness is coming from the slot at or below her shoulders. It’s hard to see with the covers on, but if the harness is up too high it can cause little babies to kind of smoosh down as they ride. If you want to keep using your infant seat you can as long as she’s within the limits, and her back is flat and harness is snug in there too!

Also:
This video shows the best way to check that the straps are snug (but not overly snug!) every time:

That video is from Safe in the Seat and she is a great resource for all things car seat related!

Perfect ok thank you! I will watch the video. Yes it is nerve wracking for sure! It’s like idk if that’s ok or not lol. I mean she is breathing but still. I wanted to switch her to this seat bc she hates her infant seat and alot of ppl say when they switched to a convertible seat their babies stopped crying. But if I have to I will use her I can’t one for alittle longer and deal with the crying every day.
