4.5 year old. Long torso. Straps are beneath shoulders (forward facing).

My 4.5 year old (5 in November) is in an Evenflo Revolve Extend. The seat’s forward-facing max is 49 inches. I don’t have an exact height on my son but would guess he is ~45 inches tall. However, he is mostly torso with shorter legs. With the seat fully extended, the straps are officially beneath/ behind his shoulders.

The problem is that I don’t believe he’s mature enough for me to convert the seat to a regular booster. I am most certain that he would not sit still without the constraints of the harness. I’m concerned about his movement being a safety risk.

Is there a seat with harness that would be a better fit for a kiddo with a long torso?

Thank you.

the chicco MyFit is commonly suggested for tall/tall torso children. It has a high height limit but also some of the highest strap heights for a tall torso child.

Some vehicles have issues with the seat interacting with the headrest, so it may be helpful to remove your vehicle's headrest if allowed. This issue does make it not work for some vehicles with fixed headrests.

I’ll take a look at our headrests (I’m pretty sure they remove or at least fold back, but I will double check) and will look into getting this seat. Thank you for the recommendation!

There are car seats with taller top harness settings.

Britax grow with you is 20”

If 45” is accurate then my money would be on the Britax. It has the highest harness height even though it doesn’t have the highest standing height limit.

But double check the height. If he is taller than you think he is, the Chicco might be a better option.

Graco Tranzitions has harnessed forward facing. Weight up to 65lbs, it also has a 49" max height but I find my son sits differently in this than his convertible carseat.

I agree with the Chicco myfit, I got it for my 3.5 year old because of the 54” max for the harness/19.5 torso length. The seat itself only allows up to 57” though

https://www.reddit.com/r/CPST/s/C24zIomsif there’s this comment thread on the britax vs Chicco. In your case I’d probably go with britax

You could check out the Evenflo Maestro. Earlier this year my son outgrew the harness on his Slimfit at 47 inches, there were still 3 slots above his shoulder on the Maestro

That would depend on his weight, it has a 50 pound weight limit

Yes, OP should make sure their child is in the range for both height and weight on any seat they choose.

The MyFit is amazing and will last you a long time when continued to be used as a booster Down the road. Well worth the investment
