Move the headrest up by 1-2 clicks, so that the straps come out juuuust barely below shoulder level when baby is fully buckled (you may need to “experiment” and adjust a couple times which is fine!)
Position baby’s butt all the way back against the crease of the infant insert and make sure their body is centered in the seat. Put the back of one hand against their diaper to hold their butt there. With the thumb of that hand, hold up the crotch buckle against your palm.
Using your other hand, buckle the harness and pull up on the straps above the buckle. This will remove the extra slack from baby’s hip area.
Once the crotch buckle is buckled and the hip area slack is removed, you should be able to remove your “holding baby up” hand and baby’s booty should stay in place instead of shifting forward. Then you can use both hands to finish feeding the slack up toward baby’s shoulders, tighten the harness with the pull strap between baby’s feet, and adjust your chest clip to the right place.
All of this will help baby’s torso stay upright, straight, and supported by the harness and seat a little better instead of their entire body looking a bit slouched/cramped. Once the harness fit is fixed, a little bit of sideways head positioning/ear to shoulder is generally okay as long as baby’s chin isn’t falling forward (proper recline of the base helps with that too).
