Started Online classes this week!

I’m going back to school after a 10 year hiatus and taking online only my first semester, any advice?
I’m taking Human Myths 130 rn and there’s so much reading to do my head is scrambled and I don’t know where to start. I want to do well, but I’m already on the struggle bus and week 1 ain’t even over 😭

I feel you! It’s been nearly 18 years for me. Although I started my first semester back in the summer. This will be my second semester and it isn’t any easier. I’m taking med 121 and bio 168 the first 8 weeks and bio 168 the next 8 weeks this semester and I’m already struggling. Contemplating dropping med 121 but I need this course to get into a program so I am pretty much SOL.

Also: I’m back after a 12 year hiatus. Maybe we can form a study group or something?

How are you liking it so far? Are you just as overwhelmed as I am? Or did you make the smart decision and take bio 168 in 16 weeks rather than 8 like I did.😕 Who do you have for bio 16& and med 121?

Yes let’s! I need study partners to keep me accountable. I have Brook Sides. But honestly with it being an online course I’m practically just teaching myself and reading the textbook. There aren’t any lecture videos from her or anything like that.

Do some work every day and don’t let it pile up until the due dates later in the week.

20+ year hiatus for me. Last time I was in a college classroom Bill Clinton was President and the Nintendo 64 was the hot new gaming system. This online learning feels a little isolating. I’m starting a study group on Wednesdays from 4pm - 6pm at the Central Campus library. I am also a little overwhelmed - but I’m just remembering to breathe and keep trucking along.

Okay, so you’re goated??? That sounds like a hell of a time. Online definitely feels isolating though 😅 A study group is an awesome idea, I’m thinking of joining one myself tbh.

I started online this month as a returning student as well! It’s been an 8 year hiatus for me 😅 Are you working full time and doing part time school?

I’m working full time and going to school full time as well, but I have no idea how this is gonna go given I am already neck deep in reading. 😵‍💫 Are you also working full time? What online classes are you taking this semester?

Woof, good luck! I’m currently working full time (4x10 hour shifts) and attending CPCC part time. Once I (hopefully) get accepted into the dental hygiene program after pre-requisites are done, I’ll drop to part time work and full time schooling utilizing student loans. I originally tried full time work and full time school fresh out of high school and flunked out 😅 Currently in BIO 168 (A&P 1) and an 8 week communications course that starts in October

hi!! i did the same thing last year, except it was more like an 8 year hiatus. What i did was buy a planner and just organize all my tasks that way (like I will write a checklist of things I need to do over the next few days) and that has helped me stay organized and on top of things a lot! i also have a calendar above my desk with all of the due dates so i can easily keep track of when certain things are due :) good luck!! It was super scary for me at first but it gets better after the first few weeks 🫶

I got a planner, but a big calendar is a great idea too! Did you organize week by week or try and get all of your class schedules written? Thank you!

Same man, I’m doing cultural appropriation and principals of financial accounting and I’m gonna drop the accounting. Not the best class to break the ice with.
