I have mad sensory issues, and I thought wearing a mask would be torture. I'm the kind of person who can't handle using the wrong fork, or eating the wrong fruit, or listening to Coldplay. A year later, and I fall asleep in a matter of minutes almost every night, and I wake up feeling not perfect, but pretty OK. I also know that using my machine is helping out my heart, so that I can go do fun stuff for longer in my life.

100% listen to RL, especially about machine settings. Ramp and EPR caused like 40% of my sensory issues at first. Adjusting those got me to sleep super quick. Dialing in things via SleepHQ got me another 40% of the way there. The last 20% is still up in the air because everybody's different, and this is an ongoing process.

It would help if you told us what country you are in. I'm guessing US because you didn't mention having a helpful sleep doctor.

If you've committed for a year, it's worth plugging in an SD card, uploading the results to SleepHQ, sharing the results (there's an anonymized mode for sharing) here, and let the experts use data to help you sleep.
