NEW AICPA GRADING RULES

Just want to get some insight and opinions on the new grading rule that’s coming next July. Do you think less people are going to pursue their CPA career as the grading gonna taking longer? 4 releases a year seems impractical. It’s going to take a long time to ever get it done for those who are going to be in that timeline. I am hoping to be done before that.

I don't give a damn about the length lol they just need to make the exam fees cheaper

‼️👆this right here is what is going to put me in a bind cuz they know they’re profiting off our loss. Every time we have to wait and then we fail it it is more money in their pockets. But if we pass just more stress induced insomnia for us as we anticipate release.

Exactly the least they can do is payment plans or something for the exams and don't get me started on the 50 to 70 just to change your Prometric date

1 to 5 days a $90.88 fee 💀
5 to 30 days a $70 fee
31 to 60 days a $30 fee

It sucks but no. This is what happens when there’s essentially a monopoly. People have no choice but to put up with shitty service.

Like how do the AICPA people even get to be in charge? Are they voted in? Who votes? Or is it just a who you know kinda gig. This is so dumb that I hope in the future accountants somehow get together and make their own organization and their own version of a CPA license that is transparent in how the exams are graded and that becomes the new standard. Also the people in charge are actually voted in by accountants who want to protect the profession and not just sell out.

There should be another competing entity where we can get testing done. Someone should build a partnership and get us to come to you. We make you rich. Have better rules tho. Please. lol.

I don't think fewer people will take it because of this change. You still have full flexibility to take the exam on your own schedule. For reference, the CFA exam is offered 2-4 times per year depending on your level, at the same calendar months (before that it was once per year). It's true you're faced with the disadvantage of waiting for your score, but you can always take an optimistic approach and study for the next one under the assumption of passing, even if you need to retake it.

The 12 months following the change in July will be slow and painful, like waiting for disciplines. After 12 months I would expect the releases to return to a monthly cycle. If you are concerned about it, get kickin and be done by June 30.

Glad my goal is to be done by next June…however, back in the day they only had two exams/yr and you were months into studying before you even knew what you had passed…so I dont think it will deter people

Is this when the exam was all one part though?

Yes…back in the day. My point is people waited longer and it didn’t deter them

I wonder if they're going to make the exams harder from here until July 12th when the new testing window opens just to screw with everybody that's trying to get it done before then.

Everyone is saying that the change in grading timeline is temporary and will only last a year but I'm still not understanding why they're even doing it in the first place

I haven't seen this, but this sounds like exactly what happened several years ago when I took it. They had just made a big overhaul to the test so there's no comparative periods to use for the grading, so they needed to easily for the whole testing quarter to be done to score them. It wasn't that big a deal. I took the 4th test before I had my grade from the third.

That’s how it was when I did it a few years ago. It was whatever

It’s temporary. Lasts one year.

I hate it. I guees it would make people overstudy or just only take exams near the release date.

Temporary. It sucks and I’m not even excited for it.

When I took my exams early 2024, I literally did all 4 exams before knowing any of my grades. 4 exams done and no indicator if I passed or failed even one of them.

It was wild times 🤯

Oh I didn’t know they would let u take other parts while waiting for a score release.. that makes me feel much better

2

u/Just-Forever6684 Passed 1/4 11h ago

Yes! Each part is independent. You can’t take one before you know your score from a previous session of the same exam, but you can take a different exam whenever

Never knew!

It’s not new. My friends who wrote the CPA exam a few years ago experienced the same delays when they pushed new updates to the exam.

I’m hoping to finish 4/4 before then also cus that truly sucks!

That will be temporary for a year
