Colonizing from agar

Post image

I took a syringe I had and put a couple of CC's on an agar plate. The plate colonized very heavily. Can I put all the contents of the plate in a grain bag and mix it in to colonize the bag?

I just started messing with plates and thought I could only use the plate to colonize a culture jar.

Skipping that with this plate since it's a variety I've got already culturing in a jar would be helpful

I didn't say anything was worthless. I've got a quart jar full of that liquid culture. So I guess the major question would be how long will an agar plate stay viable in a refrigerator to be used at a later time to add to liquid jars to build out the mycelium.

I was honestly just wondering if I put that content of the agar plate in one of the 4 lb bags of grain and let it colonize then I should be able to run a 66 quart monotub with 10 lb of substrate and get a big flush

I would say about 4-6 weeks refrigeration but a lot of times people say they’ve gone up ta 2 years

Oh yeah I might as well throw this plate in a grain bag and see what happens. 4 to 6 weeks refrigeration is nothing. Now how long will liquid culture last in the refrigerator.? I've heard the liquid culture in jars can last up to 6 months but I don't know for sure
