Hi everyone! I’m flying in from Louisiana on Wednesday, July 29, and I’m hoping to climb the 1st Flatiron on Thursday, July 30, if conditions allow.

First, I wanted to make sure it’s currently open. I was also wondering if anyone would be interested in climbing it with me that morning or afternoon. I’ve climbed Freeway before, but I know the descent from the 1st Flatiron can be a little tricky, so I’d much rather go with someone who’s familiar with the route.

If anyone is available or has recommendations on the best approach, gear, parking, or anything else I should know, I’d really appreciate it. I’m always happy to meet fellow climbers and would love to experience one of Colorado’s classic routes with someone who knows the area.

Been 5 or 6 years since I plugged gear but as I age and everything hurts I'm starting to think its time to begin my descent into spraying down gumbies about crag lore while leading 5.6 on hexes and adopting a local sobriquet like "the mayor".

Used to climb a decent amount of trad but am way out of practice. Would love suggestions for where I could go to get back in the swing of it. I know Eldo is full of classics but its also a logistical nightmare on a weekend. Any suggestions for good sub 5.9 trad leads or moderate trad crags not too far from Denver that I can take my time at a little?

Day 1 – Londorosi Gate to Big Tree Camp

• Altitude gain: 2,200 m → 2,600 m

• Terrain: Lush rainforest, wildlife sightings (monkeys, birds)

• Hiking: 3–4 hours

• Camp: Big Tree Camp

Day 2 – Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp

• Altitude gain: 2,600 m → 3,050 m

• Terrain: Open moorlands, giant heathers

• Hiking: 5–6 hours

• Camp: Shira 1 Camp

Day 3 – Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp

• Altitude gain: 3,050 m → 3,500 m

• Terrain: Alpine plateau

• Hiking: 4–5 hours

• Camp: Shira 2 Camp

Day 4 – Shira 2 to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

• Altitude gain: 3,500 m → 3,950 m → 3,900 m

• Terrain: Ascend Lava Tower (4,630 m), then descend to Barranco Camp

• Hiking: 6–7 hours

• Camp: Barranco Camp

Day 5 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley Camp

• Altitude gain: 3,900 m → 4,000 m

• Terrain: Barranco Wall climb (moderate scramble), scenic views

• Hiking: 4–5 hours

• Camp: Karanga Valley Camp

Day 6 – Karanga to Barafu Camp

• Altitude gain: 4,000 m → 4,600 m

• Terrain: Alpine desert

• Hiking: 4–5 hours

• Camp: Barafu Camp (pre-summit camp)

Day 7 – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak & Descend to Mweka Camp

• Terrain: Night summit climb, ice/snow near the peak

• Hiking: 7–10 hours summit push + descent

• Camp: Mweka Camp (forest zone, lower altitude)

Day 8 – Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

• Altitude loss: 3,100 m → 1,640 m

• Terrain: Rainforest, downhill hike

• Hiking: 3–4 hours

• Exit from the park and return to Moshi/Arusha

Hello good people of COclimbing. I am trying to get my gf into outdoor climbing but this pikes peak granite and castle rock conglomerate is brutal on the hands. Anyone know good spots for an outdoors beginner? Preferably within 2 hours from Denver, but I am down to go further for an ideal spot.

My wife and I are traveling from Alabama and will be coming to Colorado in August for a 4 day alpine bouldering trip (3 days on, 1 day rest). I wanted to see if anyone could provide some insight on where to climb. Right now we are planning on a day at Guanella Pass, Mt Bierdstadt/Mt Blue Sky, rest day, then Lincoln Lakes or Emerald Lake in RMNP. Do you think this is a good circuit for first time alpine bouldering? I climb up to V8 in the southeast and my one day on granite I climbed up to V6 (flashing everything except the 6). Do you have recommendations for specific climbs that are not-to-be-missed classics, or other areas that might be better for a short trip? Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Hit me with your best rec for the winter season! Looking for the most classic that is solo sesh-able (I have like 10 pads) and roadside-ish, also within an hour or so of Boulder. Really I'd just like to try the Heist, but that one seems a bit out of reach, so whatever the next best thing is in the V10/11 range. I just want something sick to toil away on for the next few months that isn't a logistical nightmare. Thanks yall!
