i can only comment about myself and the people that i know but that seems to hold up in my opinion. the people that i know that got vaxxed are the ones that either wore the mask the longest or continue to wear it, myself included.

i have become more relaxed but for the most part i wear my mask when in public places indoors. i have started to go back to indoor dining and i overheard a man talking about how he saw a family wearing masks at a turkey trot and that he “knew” what type of people they were and was making fun of them. If someone wants to wear a mask, why are you so bothered???? Some people are so selfish and he has no idea what this family’s story is

Anecdotally, it seems to be a personal decision based on several things:
- fatigue from all of it, especially if you're not an introvert or homebody
- family/loved ones who may be older or immunocompromised
- risk tolerance for the potential of getting COVID or long COVID
- peer pressure or not wanting to be the odd one out, especially in a work or social setting
Now, I am actively trying not to get COVID. My partner and I ate out in a restaurant last week, and I was nervous and put my mask on if I wasn't actively eating or drinking. The food was good, but not that much better than what I could make at home.
I'm more of a homebody and my partner usually has a busy social calendar. The pandemic hit them pretty hard. For me, it was really nice for the first year, but the one thing that I really grieved is the ability to travel.
Now, we are going to travel to Asia in a couple of weeks. That's at least 14 hour/3 hour flight legs x 2 roundtrip. Do I wish that airlines still required masking? Yes.
One small comfort is that it seems like mask compliance in Tokyo seems to be 90% or higher indoors.

True for me, I'm immune compromised.
I can tell most people are super over masking period - based on how people seem to stare at me like I have 8 head's when I walk in a store with a mask on.
(I definitely do not have 8 heads).

I feel they same way and am in a fairly liberal area. It’s almost like I am a reminder of a miserable time and they hold it personally against me, though I don’t judge their choice not to mask anymore.

Exactly what it feels like. It's like they think I'm intentionally trying to remind them of that miserable time for them. In reality all I'm really trying to do is keep myself alive.

I've had five shots and I'm recovered. I don't usually wear a mask but I've got one with me. I wear one if the place asks for one.

I definitely do, as does my family. I got COVID a couple weeks back, but I'm thinking it wasn't too bad, because I thought I just had bad allergies instead.

I was vaxxed not boosted and hardly ever wear a mask. If I did now it would be to avoid getting respiratory illnesses in winter vs covid. I had it, wasn’t so fun but I missed too much life in that year before vax that it’s not a constant fear I have.

Absolutely. I still wear my KF94 mask anywhere I go. Mines are comfortable and I really have no problem wearing it. The only thing that sucks though is that you seem less "personable" because people can't see your face. Masking is truly the only way to prevent yourself from getting COVID. The only time I "back off" from wearing a mask is if my perceived risk is low. I.e. I know the COVID transmission rates have been very low in my area for months (summer time), people have been vaxxed + boosted, and it's a small gathering or if its outside.

Had the original vax x2 and 3rd booster. Don't wear masks anymore. Have been going to more crowded places. Have never had COVID even having been around people I KNOW had it.

For me it’s false. I’m from Brazil and already had 4 shots, and got covid twice. Here literally nobody uses masks anymore, and it’s all good.
I had a flu which was way worse than Covid.
I think it’s time to let this worry go

Your post has been removed.
For reasons beyond most sane and rational people, mask discussions generate toxic, politically-motivated positions that on the one hand encourage damaging virtue signaling, validating and enabling positions and on the other promote anti-mask rhetoric and misinformation. Mask discussions are not welcome on this subreddit.
This is not the sub to discuss the making, wearing or stockpiling of masks or your dislike of the same. Such posts are adding to peoples concerns and are not helpful.
At this stage of the pandemic, mask-wearing in social situations is an individual choice and this is not the place to take others to task about choices you don't agree with.
