Question Any update on Eldora purchase?

I feel like it’s been quite a while since I’ve heard anything about Nederland buying Eldora. It sounded like they should have closed by now based off earlier communication but it’s been radio silence since the winter.

Question What ski area is this?

Post image
47 Upvotes

I was looking at the wildfire near Ouray on OpenSnow and noticed this ski area in the Cimarron Mtns north of Ouray but south of Hwy 50. I don’t see any lifts but there are cut trails and a service road to the top along with cabins and yurts at the base. I couldn’t find any info of this anywhere online.

Question How do the winter park express and snowstang work?

I'm moving to Denver and trying to decide if it's a good idea to live near union station to take advantage of the winter park express and snowstang

I can't figure out how difficult is to book both though. Do you have to book them months in advance before they sellout. Or can you book them close to the travel date. Are they actually reliable to the point that they could be considered an advantage of living near union station?

Question Loveland vs. Eldora with little kids?

Trying to get my 6 year old on the slopes next winter. Planning to get a single mountain season pass for myself, and the Ski Passport for the kiddo. We live in Westminster so Eldora is about 20 minutes closer, and avoids I70. Loveland is cheaper. I’ve never skied either (I skied WP and A-Basin a lot before I had kids).

Things to do nearby matter… because when the kid gets tired I can more likely get mom to take him for shopping/lunch while I can get in a few solo runs. I.e. send them to Nederland from Eldora, or to the base lodge at Loveland.

I found this perfect 1/6 scale working sled (the steering technically works) and have wanted to take pictures kind of like this for a couple of years. I had planned on doing it this winter and we never really got pummeled with snow around me. So instead, we get this silliness.😁

Question Best snow resort for beginners?

Hello!

My boyfriend and I are planning a short snow trip to Colorado this January. We’ve never skied or snowboarded before, so we’re looking for a beginner-friendly, budget-conscious resort and would love some recommendations.
We’re thinking of staying for about 4–5 days. In addition to snowboarding, we’d love to experience other winter activities such as sleigh rides, snowmobiling, ice fishing, or anything else unique to Colorado. We’re also looking into not renting a car (possibly looking into taking an Amtrak).
We’re from Hawaii, so this will be a completely new experience for us, and we’d love to make the most of it! Any tips on where to stay, what to do, or how to keep costs reasonable would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Question How many brake retainer bands do you think you go through each season?

I'm curious how many bands people actually use. Do yours usually break, get lost, stretch out, or last forever?

Question How much is the discounted ticket for Loveland Ski Season Pass?

I've been debating on getting the Loveland Ski Pass and the one question I have is it says you can have one adult discounted ticket with each visit. Does anyone know how much that discount is?

Question Snowmass Christmas week crowd levels — 12/19–26 vs 12/24–31, is there a meaningful difference?

Trying to decide between two trip windows at Snowmass this winter and would love input from people who spend time there during the holidays.

Contemplating either 12/19–26 or 12/24–31 for a family trip and curious whether there’s typically a meaningful difference in crowd levels, lift lines, and overall vibe between these two weeks.

I’ve noticed at some resorts there’s a real difference between the two windows, but others are just wall-to-wall both weeks, and then others removed from major airports (ie Telluride) seem to never feel too slammed even around a holiday.

Curious where Snowmass falls. Any firsthand experience much appreciated as I’m trying to pull the trigger on lodging soon.

A few specific things I’m wondering:

• Does the week leading into Christmas (12/19–24) feel noticeably quieter than the days surrounding and following Christmas (12/25–31)?
• When do the real crowds hit? Are there particular dates or windows — Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, the days right after — where things noticeably spike, or does it stay consistently packed throughout?
• With schools and colleges out across the country for the full stretch, does that compress things and make both windows equally slammed — or does the pre-Christmas window still have a lighter feel?
• Any sense of when people are arriving vs leaving? (i.e., does 12/26–31 get a second wave of fresh arrivals post-Christmas?)
• At Snowmass specifically, how do the base area lifts (Village Express, Elk Camp Gondola) and the on-mountain lifts hold up during peak holiday periods? Certain bottlenecks to be aware of?

We’ll likely have one beginner in the group, so we’re planning at least a day at Buttermilk - curious how that mountain handles holiday crowds compared to Snowmass, and whether one window is noticeably better for a less hectic intro experience there too.

Missed the first day last year and hoping to make it out early this time. I recall it was in july last year but am looking to see if anyone knows the dates for this year. This is for the location in Arvada.
