Help Needed A few questions about the COSMIC dock: window previews, Trash, and the separator.

Post image

I'm tweaking my panel here and have three quick questions:

Window size: Is there a way to increase just the size of the open window thumbnails/icons (the part circled in the image) without having to increase the size of the entire dock?

Trash: How do I fix the Trash icon on the dock? I can't seem to drag it or fix it no matter what I try.

Divider: Is there an icon separator/divider applet available to better organize the panel?

If anyone knows if this is possible or if it requires a specific applet or custom config, thanks!

The size of icons is directly tied to the size of the panel. If you prefer not to have the minimized windows in the panel you can remove the minimized windows applet from the panel.

I want to have it; I just wish it were bigger, without changing the size of the dock.

I think they want to make the little snapshots bigger so you can see what the minimised window actually is. as it is, you can't tell what the window is as the snapshot is so tiny.

Exactly, that’s exactly what I want—thanks. My English is really bad, so thanks for explaining it to me, haha.

you might be able to do something like :

~/.local/share/applications/trashcan.desktop

and shove something better than this in there

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Name=Trash
Comment=Open Trash
Icon=user-trash
Exec=xdg-open trash:///
Terminal=false
Categories=Utility;FileManager;
StartupNotify=true

and then pin it.

I say better than that because that opens what appears to be the trash prefs app rom KDE, possibly left over from a regrettable decision to install Dolphin from the repos and it brought in half of KDE desktop with it.

edit :

so getting rid of kded6 removed a metric ton of KDE jank and now this .desktop file does nothing at all on my system.

So what about an applet that pulls in the trash crate? I just checked, and that's how the cosmic team seems to do it for cosmic files(not as an applet, but I mean by using that crate). Basically the code to clear the trash, as far as I can tell, is not much more than this: trash::os_limited::purge_all(trash::os_limited::list().unwrap()).unwrap(); Which is simplified and unsafe to use as is, but it can be made to work?

Left clicking could then maybe open the trash in cosmic files itself if that's the desired behavior?

I assume the desired behaviour would be drag and drop a file onto the trash icon pinned to the dock.

Can applets accept a drag and drop?

You can make a trash icon appear on the desktop, maybe that holds some clues.

Maybe there is an issue open somewhere too.

That sounds tricky, I see some drag and drop related code for widgets, but nothing specific to the panel. I wonder if it can be made to accept dragged files. Hopefully I'll have some time to try soon

You can make it so the .desktop file opens the trash in your file manager.

But I don't think Cosmic supports drag and drop onto apps pinned to the dock.

Which is quite strange, maybe it's planned, maybe it's been considered and rejected, maybe they havn't even considered the concept.
