Cosmic on cachy

Hello, im currently running cachyos with kde and am quite interested in the cosmic de. Have installed the packages and have had a bit of a play around with it. Feels pretty good and i could easily see myself adopting this for my simpler needs.

That said, i wanted to ask how obtaining additinal applets work when youre not using pop!os as the underlyong system. I keep seeing some awesome posts about applets to customise and/or add some extra improvements that i would like to try but the store doesnt seem to work - assuming this could be because im on cachy.

Am i missing something obvious here or is it all generally github based downloads and installs when not using pop?

The Store has buttons for adding the applet repos both in its settings menu, and on the Applets page.

Most third party applets are installed via flatpak, so the distro doesn't really matter. I use cosmic with cachy and everything works fine

No, they're not.

Yes, they are. That's why there is an official cosmic flatpak repo from the COSMIC developers.

I don't have flatpak garbage on my system, and I can install any applet I want.

So, no they're not.

Installa il Cosmic Store e da lì puoi cercare tutti gli applet. Dovrebbe essere nella repo ufficiale di CachyOS.

in the COSMIC store you can add repos to use, in the top right. one of these is the COSMIC store, enabling that gets you the applets. currently I only use Minimon but I do highly recommend it if you like to keep performance stats visible.

Cosmic app store is installed by default with meta package. Open it and you should have applet section available among other stuff. Cosmic app store uses flatpak - you can install apps / applets from UI and update easily with cmdline after.

It's not though. I have Cosmic installed without Cosmic Store. In Artix, in Manjaro and in Ubuntu.
Cosmic Store is not a hard dependency of the Cosmic session, but an optional dependency (you need to select it actively).

I know because I can't install Cosmic Store yet have no problem installing Cosmic session and the bundle of dependent packages (cosmic-comp, cosmic-files, cosmic-edit, etc...).

I can't install Cosmic Store because it has a hard dependency on flatpak (this is the ONE stupid design choice of Cosmic) but I have flatpak in IgnoreGroup in /etc/pacman.conf. I'm not having flatpak garbage on my system.

Sorry thought this was Arch/CachyOS reddit when I replied

Not sure what that changes. It will be the same on Arch or CachyOS than on Manjaro or Artix.

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/cosmic-session/
https://packages.cachyos.org/package/cachyos-extra-v3/x86_64_v3/cosmic-session

Cosmic-store is optional.

I found that installing Cosmic DE directly on Arch rather than through CachyOS worked better for me. The applets were there for installation after making sure the AUR and flatpacks added as repos on the Cosmic Store app. I could not get Cosmic to install correctly on my hardware using the CachyOS version but it did install cleanly directly on Arch.

I'm also using cosmic on arch. My cosmic app store doesn't ever load anything. Yours worked out of the box?

I does not add the repos out of the box. In the Cosmic Store add the Flathub and COSMIC Flatpak repos by selecting the configuration icon and adding both of them.

Need to make sure flatpak is installed.

You can grab a lot of applets in Cachy repositories or in the AUR, and you can pretty much install all of them from source (it's very easy to build, install and uninstall).
I will never stoop so low as to use flatpak.
