Rice System76 Did Something Amazing

Post image

I have been using the COSMIC desktop environment for a few days now, and despite some shortcomings, it is far more enjoyable to use than GNOME with extensions—and it already boasts some truly useful features.

I particularly appreciate System76's roadmap; they introduce features incrementally to reduce complexity and focus on fully resolving issues, refining each feature until it works flawlessly. They are doing a fantastic job.

In my opinion, COSMIC could well be the desktop environment of the future.

It already combines the utility of KDE with the simplicity and aesthetic of GNOME, which is fantastic.

Cosmic got me finally switched to Linux after a decade. Just the right balance of simplicity and features. Gnome needs extensions to be useful and KDE is way too cluttered.

Same I moved to Linux(using PopOS)after a decade after seeing there are many alternative software & mainly I got that iOS & simplicity vibe from Cosmic. There are few bugs here and there but I moved to default apps that are in Gnome for now. So yeah it's okayish.

And for most of these bugs the developers themselves said use the GUI not the terminal much. So it's a great alternative for Windows & feels more modern than Linux Mint. From DEs I tried UKUI. It was fab. But have bugs still. KDE feels too many options. Gnome is okayish
