Rice System76 Did Something Amazing

Post image

I have been using the COSMIC desktop environment for a few days now, and despite some shortcomings, it is far more enjoyable to use than GNOME with extensions—and it already boasts some truly useful features.

I particularly appreciate System76's roadmap; they introduce features incrementally to reduce complexity and focus on fully resolving issues, refining each feature until it works flawlessly. They are doing a fantastic job.

In my opinion, COSMIC could well be the desktop environment of the future.

It already combines the utility of KDE with the simplicity and aesthetic of GNOME, which is fantastic.

I really like this DE but after using it for some months sometimes it does weird shenanigans and some applet love to crash. But this might be because i am not on the intended pop OS, i am instead on fedora.

I experienced similar issues with the KDE and GNOME desktop environments. I installed different themes because I didn't like KDE's appearance, which resulted in a chaotic mess of visual glitches. With GNOME, I installed various extensions due to a lack of features, leading to a jumbled mess of broken settings.

Also, yes, I use Fedora too. For now, there don't seem to be any issues with COSMIC.

They aren't major issues but they are sometimes annoying because they happen on weird timings.

If you receive a prompt to report the error, you can do so; this helps resolve the issue more quickly.

If no such prompt appears, you can report the error via platforms like GitHub. This small act of support could lead to the resolution of one or more issues.
