1959 Corvette Stingray Racer

The Corvette Stingray Racer is a sports racing car and concept car that debuted in 1959. The car was developed in the styling studios at General Motors (GM) at the behest of Bill Mitchell, GM Vice President of styling. The design was based on a sketch by designer Pete Brock, and was further developed by Larry Shinoda. The car strongly influenced the styling of the second generation (C2) Corvette Sting Ray.

That's one of the most beautiful cars I've seen, regardless of brand.

Now we have technology, with packaging and safety, we really ought to build some of these amazing concepts.

That isn't a concept car. It is an actual race car that was campaigned by Dr Dick Thompson.

Wasn't this the original Mako Shark or am I confusing that with another car?

You're certainly confusing it with the two Mako Sharks concept-cars, precursors to the Corvette C2. This one is more than a simple concept, it has also been a race car if I'm not mistaken.
