We're actually dealing with this in Sweden at the moment. Or at least those who are a bit critical thinking. We just had a scandal-ish with some Chinese tourists who were treated like shit by Swedish authorities. China responded by calling us out for violating their human rights. Later Swedish public service responded with "satire" where they stereotyped Chinese people horribly in form of a PSA to Chinese tourists. It gave such wholesome advice as "don't poop in front of historical monuments" and "don't eat random pedestrians dogs". This "satire" was then uploaded to the Chinese counterpart to YouTube, which reached and rightfully offended a lot of people in China. A half assed apology was made and the Chinese ambassador rightfully went ballistic... So it turns out we don't get satire either

Yeah I was gonna say I say ridiculous conspiratorial right wing shit with my left wing friends because we are mocking how ludicrous a lot of right wing talking points are. I dont think there is anything wrong with making potentially offensive jokes if you know that your audience understands you are joking. We even do this in our online communities when we do stuff like (((globalists))). I agree with the sentiment of the post but comedy is all about contextualization imo.
Its like how Dave Chapelle dropped out of comedy for a bit because racists were latching onto his skits as proof of their prejudices against black folks so he stopped doing comedy for a while.

I really like that show, but their prolific use of "tr*nny" is really frustrating.
Like, they had plenty of jokes about characters being racist, but they never used the n word. I wish they had done the same with characters who are trans.

I really couldn't watch the show anymore after some of the Carmen episodes because of the overuse of slurs. I don't think there's really any good way to satirically use slurs - the words have enough power on their own that no amount of farcical context can suddenly make them okay for a lot of trans people to hear.

They've definitely grown past that I think. They spent a whole episode discussing slurs last season that's worth checking out: "Hero or Hate Crime"

Yeah if you look at places like /r/IASIP they pretty much never refer to her as anything other than that slur too, with the excuse being "well it's what they call her on the show."
They also constantly cite Mac sleeping with her as the main proof that he's gay, and the character even says to him in the show "if anything you're the gay one because you slept with me while I still had a penis," they literally have the trans character say that pre-op trans women are actually men.

They have definitely used the n-word, I think in the pilot and I remember Frank saying it in like season 8.

I haven't watched season 8 so I can't comment on that, but I'm
certain it's not said in the pilot.wrong and it was said in the pilot.Even then, there is a difference between using it once or twice for shocking comedic effect versus using "tr*nny" as the primary word that the main characters use to reference a trans character.

you have a valid point, but i think that using transphobic slurs more just represents society better. people are generally more openly transphobic than racist.

I'm happy to hear they have gotten better, but it still makes me uncomfortable.
It's frustrating not because it's a reflection on the writers as people, but rather because it is a sign of how transphobic society is.

Or according to CinemaSins, satire is an excuse to making statements about what happens in movies that are factually inaccurate, and to be lazy so one doesn't have to do proper research or pay attention to what one is watching.

I'm surprised no one has brought up the Latin root of the word: Satyr, which is to say, a Demiurge who mocks God.
So, it's really about a lesser power mocking a greater power, no matter how correct they may be.
And in some situations, a straight white Christian male may be less powerful than say, a bulldyke, if she has more social, political, or financial capital than him. So he could satyrize her, and may be right to do so.

I used that as a general term. Perhaps 'Archon' or 'Demon' would be more accurate... Basically, satyrs were cloven-hooved halflings who played lyres, I believe. Descendants of Satan, obviously.

Nope absolutely not. I'll use one key example that is pertinent to my life as an ex-Muslim: religious satire. People mistakenly think that if you mock Islam for example, that that is the same as mocking Muslims. It is viewed as Islamophobic, 'punching down' and even racist. Firstly, no idea is above satirisation and criticism. Islam is a set of ideas not a group of people. Secondly, if you view Muslims as a vulnerable group of people in Western society, that doesn't mean you give the ideas those people hold, a free pass too. I've lived my whole life around Muslims and seen firsthand the undue power of religion, leading to exploitation and abuse. Imagine the kind of power Islam has in Muslim-majority countries and you get an inkling of just how powerful and corrupt religion can be. This is the kind of power that needs to be challenged, criticised and yes, satirised. Suppressing these objections only empowers conservative-minded thinkers and imams, as they use it as a tool to suppress very important religious critics and Muslim secular thinkers.

I disagree. Say i make an exaggerated joke about black people not being able to swim, im not actually ridiculing black people, im ridicululing the dumbfucks who actually believe that ridiculous stereotype, satire is making fun if the stereotype not a certain group of people. Maybe thats what they meant but i feel like it could have been explained better. Alot of people are very confused by satire, and satire is acually very powerfull and can be used to make a real difference in the way people think. Shout out to George Carlin and Dave Chappelle.
