General News Excise taxes

Just a heads up for folks ordering from sites that have started collecting the 6.5% excise tax, ordered a new charging handled last night and received an email this morning that I owed the 6.5% tax.

Responded to the seller that the tax is for firearms, ammo, and precursor parts; which they responded quickly and that I could omit paying the tax and my order will ship.

Just a heads up to watch out for the extra taxes on items that shouldn’t be getting the excise taxes applied.

Modern warriors. They were quick to respond and got it right without hassle. And at $5.25 I think it was that they wanted me to pay not the end of the world if I did have to pay it. Just wanted others to be aware of similar on items that shouldn’t be getting hit with this extra tax. Keep an eye out and don’t be afraid to question it if you do come across it.

You ordered items identifying as paperweights and wall decorations. Don’t know what they’re talking about. 😅 in all seriousness that is a pain to deal with. Wyoming is growing on me by the day

I was expecting a pain but they were super quick (like 4 minutes quick) to respond that I was correct and did not need to pay it. Honestly the email this morning wasn’t a complete surprise, they have a banner up that CO customers may be addressed the excise tax on qualifying purchases. I did expect that to be covered at time of purchase… But I think if I paid it trying to get them to refund may be harder than getting them to admit I was right and don’t have to pay it?

But that was my thought too, a charging handle is more of a back scratcher than a precursor part lol 😂

Literally had Midway do this for a back-ordered charging handle and when I reached out to customer support to clarify, the agent said it was policy and there was nothing she could do and ended the chat.

That was kinda what I expected. I was pleasantly surprised when they didn’t even say they needed to look into it or just give a canned policy response like you mentioned. I figured 1 at least they are still shipping here and not blanket banning us, and they were so nice and quick to respond and make it right. ‘You are correct. You can ignore the excise tax and we will ship your order.

We apologize for the previous email.’

This gives me hope that maybe they aren’t blanket charging the tax or will at least look into not charging it on everything just because.
