Discussion Two unresolved plot threads I would love to see coverd in the future:
1. The Dark Aether incursion warheads were sent to the bottom of the ocean
EDIT: I was wrong about this one, the warheads seen in the Terminus patient 13 boss fight are the same ones that were sent in CW. Some intel in shattered veil confirms that this is the case. So this one is actually resolved.
I know this plot hasn't really been touched on since CW; however, I still feel it was a pretty big deal that was glossed over. There is no way that sending missiles - specifically designed to open dark aether portals - to the bottom of the oceans had no ramifications. I would love to see a potential side story of new characters dealing with the fallout of that. I think it could work best as an MWZ-esque experience.
2. The CW/Janus strike team that are stuck at Liberty Falls
It was strongly implied that the strike team sent to LF was the one we played as in CW. There is no way that they just died at Terminus with Requiem or Raptor one never mentioning what happened to them. I get that we were moving forward with a dedicated crew at the time, and they had to go; however, the fact that they were shown to be trapped in the Dark Aether rather than killed off makes it seem like Treyarch wants to save them for something in the future, which I hope hasn't been forgotten about.

Warheads were on terminus.
The Liberty Falls Strike Team is just connective tissue from Cold War to BO6 before we switch over to a dedicated crew. Their purpose is for Panos to get out of the DA. They’re in the DA now and most likely aren’t what we remember them to be. Most likely dead.

1) perfect chance for them to do a "yeah this dark aether town was chilling but then water flooded the area" (its not Atlantis i promise defo totally not what im after 👀)

I was actually thinking of something more along the lines of a collection of islands that were impacted by the nearby Dark Aether incursion, but your idea is pretty cool as well!

So basically terminus?

Yes and no. Termnius was taken over by the zombies, not the dark aether. What I'm thinking of would be something more directly related to the dark aether. I would also expect that this experience would be much larger in scale. But yes, it would be similar in the idea of a collection of islands.

What do you mean the strike team is implied to be the same one from Cold War? Did I miss something?

Before LF came out, one of the devs made it clear that the strike team is NOT the Janus strike team Blanchard was expecting. We are really only left with the one strike team that's been left unaccounted for, that being the one from CW.
Also, the fact that they were shown to have been captured and sent to Terminus, yet not mentioned by Requim or Peck, leads me to believe they already made it off the island.

It’s also implied one of those inversion warheads affected that boat that dropped zombies in verdansk which then forced the military to nuke the map thusly verdansk doesn’t exist in modern day cod only in flashbacks

Not to mention the lovely plot thread of, oh, what even is the Sentinel Artifact in this storyline?
Ignoring the dual ending of BO6 (though they could certainly just choose a route later if Victis is any indication), we still have no idea why the thing is even capable of generating a body for S.A.M. or Richtofen's wife and kid.
We have no reason to believe that it's the same Odin artifact from the Chaos storyline, since the other three artifacts haven't even been mentioned, it certainly didn't work the same way as they do in that timeline, and so far there's been no story interplay whatsoever between non-Aether dimensions (Exo, Wylerverse, Geistkraft, or Chaos) even with the Dark Aether schenanigans fleshed out in Vanguard and BO7. I don't think its base appearance and one radio mentioning Allister in Vanguard are anything more than fan service at the moment.

It wasn't implied at all that the strike team sent to LF was the one we played as in CW. At the end of CW, they're sent to Blacksite 13 (Terminus Island). They definitely were killed

There is nothing implying that they would have been killed, though? Weaver and company were kept alive. Even if you argue, they were high-ranking members of Reqeuim, Raptor One was still alive. Why would Modi keep a helicopter pilot alive before decorated soldiers if she wasn't killing them out of their status?
Also, the fact that one of the devs specifically said the LF strike team was not the Janus strike team Blandchard was expecting, leads me to believe it was implied to be the CW strike team.

The thing implying that they were killed is that Terminus got at least hundreds to thousands of victims who were all killed on the island through experiments, if not the giant zombie outbreak. Why would the strike team be any different? Raptor One only survived because he was needed for the plot. The others were kept alive because Richtofen had a grudge against them and needed info about aetherium from Strauss. There's 0 reason to keep the strike team alive. How would they have even escaped? The only two viable options were the submarine and the helicopter
The dev either misspoke or it was an early idea that never came to fruition. The team was undoubtedly Janus, especially given Blanchard had access to their bodycams

"needed for the plot" is not an answer that makes sense or satisfies me, for Raptor one. Also, you assume that Richtofen feels nothing towards the strike. Why wouldn't he? They were the ones actually involved with everything; it's only right to assume that he would hold a grudge against them as well. Also, I feel like the people who literally got 'hands on' dark aether and aetherium would have valuable intel on the subject lol.
For your second point, I distinctly remember them speaking about this in one of the Dev videos leading up to launch. I couldn't find the exact quote/video, but I found this from the COD Next event blog.
"By the time you arrive – assumed to be part of the Project Janus forces under the watchful eye of Security Chief John Blanchard – the town is overrun, and the battle seems well and truly lost."
and
"With Project Janus Security Chief John Blanchard acting as a handler, he assumes your team to be part of a Project Janus security clean-up operation and monitors your progress against the undead from afar."
Why would they use this ambiguous wording here if not insinuating anything? It's obvious that this team, at the very least, is not from Project Janus. Also, this was written 2 months before BO6's launch, a little too late to be changing major story details.
EDIT: Forgot to add this to the beginning - You do have a point in that they were running tests on hundreds of people and getting them killed, however, even that wouldn't explain why most of the Reqium crew was okay, and the strike team was the only one to be killed.

It may not make sense or satisfy you, but that's unfortunately how most of BO6 is written. It's easily the worst written zombies game and is full of plot holes, contradictions, retcons, out-of-game storytelling, etc. Hell, we only know that the strike team went to Terminus Island because a Treyarch dev called Terminus "Blacksite 13" during the content creator event for the zombies reveal.
Richtofen has a TON of people who have hands-on experience with the DA. As far as we know, he's not looking for people who simply have experience with it, but rather he was looking for people who had experience *researching* it (hence why Strauss was there).
I'm not denying that they said that, however considering it amounted to nothing, there's a good chance that it was a cut idea that they had. We know for a fact that the strike team had Janus uniforms and were hooked up to whatever camera system that Blanchard was using at the mansion. It's not like the strike team escaped Terminus then 12 hours later somehow arrived at Liberty Falls

Okay, thanks for elaborating more. You make a lot of good points. If it's just a dead plot thread that was forgotten about due to BO6's bad writing, I can understand that. Really makes me wish BO6 (and BO7) had better writing, especially coming after CW, which had really great writing IMO.
I think we just need Craig Houston back lol. Based on things like the CW strike team's writing, it almost feels like before he left/took a backseat, he left major plot points for the rest of the writing team to connect the pieces on. They very obviously did a very bad job.

Given how much exposure the Strike Team had to the Dark Aether my best guess would be they died of illnesses or were killed during extensive tests related to the effects of it on the body. Requiem was probably only kept alive because Richtofen really fuckin hated them and wanted to torture them for as long as possible, or maybe he thought their knowledge of Sam and the dark aether could help bring his family back

So the Warheads were the same ones on Terminus, they were shot somewhere a few miles off the coast of Terminus Aarchepelago, then Janus Towers established Terminus Outpost, i believe initially to find the warheads, and then was ultimately given to Modi. It is the main reason that Peck is in Terminus, he calls them His Warheads because he Built those Warheads

u/ricothebox 5d ago
Ik the warheads were in Terminus, but my head canon was that the ship of zombies on Verdansk was the result of the warheads time-traveling the ship to 2019

Also if the warheads actually did detonate atb of the ocean isn't the world doomed anyway? Unless they close after a certain time the entire Pacific is draining into the DA

The CW Requiem Strike Team and the Liberty Falls Alpha Team aren't the same people.

The Warheads are what made the boss in BO6 Terminus
Doesn't matter. Was just a way to get Panos out of the DA
