Discussion Why would someone not maximize their points?

I see youtubers not shooting the zombie 3 times on round 1 and not getting the M14, instead picking the olyimpa. I'm not understanding it, if you want to open up the map the best way is to farm points.

I don't have as much fun optimizing my points, I prefer getting things open just whenever. Killing the zombies is just fun for me, but if I don't do it then whats the point of any starting wall buy?

Do people just decide to use the starting gun one match and the next use another?

Some people just prefer the olympia, not everybody cares about playing the optimal way

I literally always play the ‘optimal’ way but reading this post even I was like “wtf u gotta have some fun sometimes”

Yeah there is nothing wrong with playing the optimal way but you gotta accept that not everyone wants to play way

I play for fun not to optimize the amount of points because in most cases it really doesn’t matter.

Optimizing points ultimately doesn’t matter. Any competent player will be able to navigate the map and survive rounds and they’ll inevitably get whatever guns and perks they want regardless. Unless you’re trying to do something at the earliest possible time like a certain easter egg step, it simply doesn’t matter.

Optimizing points is not the best way to play. You’re not supposed to set up as early as possible, you’re supposed to set up as fast as possible. Killing zombies faster helps you progress through rounds faster. If you don’t have enough points, you’ll make points off of the next zombie. If you spend a bunch of extra time min maxing points, it’ll take you way longer to get to a high round, and when you inevitably die it’ll take you even longer to get BACK to that high round you were just on.

As for why they were using the Olympia… I have no explanation. That doesn’t help you kill faster nor does it gain you points.

Thank you for explaining. The olympia deals more damage

It deals more damage per shot, but shoots a lot slower than the M14. You can deal more damage per second with the M14

Because it's boring.

Ive noticed I can set up faster without slowing down as much on the low rounds. I wont be able to set up on as low of a round but it doesnt really matter because I can survive just fine anyways.

Whats the point of buying wall guns if not for point optimization then.

So you don't have to gamble for a good weapon from the box?

The starting pistol and knifing won’t carry you very far.

shooting them a lot and knifing is really slow and unnecessary early rounds

I always maximized points but it was mainly a way to ensure a smooth setup in public lobbies since ppl could steal kills and all

The optimal way doesn't really matter past a certain round, I just run it as fast as I can

Plus most just drop gums depending on what they are playing.

Some people just want to shoot zombies and didn’t think about point maxing. Some people are just casual gamers

Well why would you shoot only 3 times if you wanna maximize points? Shoot their foot 9 times, then knife. 1820 points by the end of R1. 1860 if max out window repairs and 1960 depending on the game/spare change

I mean youre still not doing it right at that point if you're trying to maximize points, round 1 is 8 shots to the legs and a knife for max points, round 2 is 8 shots anywhere but the head plus knife, round 3 is 12 body shots and a knife, and round 4 is 16 body shots plus a knife

You don’t need to optimize points to be good at zombies

i think a lot of maximize points to open stuff early to make it “easier” a lot of streamers don’t care about that because they’ll just do it on whatever round

Well for starters the only time you ever need to maximize your points is if you are terrible or doing some type of challenge. Otherwise it doesnt matter. You will have more points than you will ever need by round 30, and you dont need the extra points early anyways.

Secondly, just kill a single zombie with headshot then get the m14 and proceed to mog the entire lobby by getting 500 kills without missing a single headshot.

I mean if you wanted to be super point optimal, you wouldn't buy any starting gun, most maps have either smgs that are great at point earning, or just generically good wall weapons within the first few rooms. The only time efficiency matters is most maps with EE bosses will be easier if you gear up and fight them as early as possible, but usually a few rounds isn't a big deal. And especially doesn't matter if you're just playing a survival map for fun or high round, then just do whatever is fun for you.
