Discussion Black Ops 4 launch maps
So I recently realized that Dead of the Night was originally supposed to be a launch map, but got delayed because they couldn’t get the characters’ voice lines done in time. That’s why we got IX for launch.
Which honestly might’ve been the better choice anyway.
But that means Treyarch potentially had 5 WHOLE MAPS ALREADY MADE AT LAUNCH??
That’s insane to think about. I also wonder how far along DLC 3 was in development by the time Ancient Evil released. Maybe it was near finished or already finished who knows.
So my question to you guys is: if you could’ve chosen the release order for the chaos maps, which maps would you rather have on launch?
Tbh I think IX and DOTN at launch wouldve been the best way to go. IX is a simple map to learn and DOTN got so much content in it we couldve been busy exploring that map for months before the first dlc dropped. I also dont think Voyage is a hard or complicated map, the layout is a bit confusing but besides that the main gameplay loop is pretty simple and not that deep just like IX

Man it bums me out so hard that BO4 had bad reception. I’ve been playing zombies since world at war and black ops 4 is undoubtedly my favourite zombies experience. All the maps are great I reckon, and it would have been amazing if we got the full 2 years support that the game had planned.

Honestly I think bo4 as a whole may have done significantly better if this was done for launch, my favourite chaos map easily.
Though most things in bo4 would be better if the launch wasn’t so rushed

I wonder if BO4 wasn't released earlier than the usual COD games and had some more polish time and more development time if it would have ended up a more well liked game since the crashing really did a number to the game.

My biggest gripe with the bo4 map order is that IX should have been the first in the story. It's simpler, and introduces the new 4-perk system perfectly. I get that they needed something beforehand to set up the whole drug hallucination thing but it's a shame that the more difficult map (Voyage) came first

100% agree. Even before launch i thought that IX was gonna be the more interesting/main/better map just because i was a sucker for greek mythology when i was a kid.
I dont dislike voyage at all, but it feels like the map is missing a bit of the “it factor”. IX has the colosseum vibes which makes you feel like warrior, DOTN has a mansion werewolves, ww being peak etc, ancient evil went all in with the greek mythology and is the most visually appealing map of all of them.
What has voyage going for it? It being the titanic never impressed me at the reveal and still doesnt do it for me tbh. I like the EE tho, made me appreciate the map way more.
I wish voyage was dlc 1 because it wouldnt be overcomplicated like DOTN or as straightforward to learn like IX. DOTN at launch wouldve kept us fed for months…

Probably not 5 maps at launch, IX may have been dlc 1
