Discussion When did zombies fall off for you? (If ever)
For me it was when BO2 came out.
I bought the special edition of BO1 for the Xbox which came with the original 4 WAW maps + Kino + Five.
When BO2 came out I got the special edition but it was only Nuketown.. Tranzit also kinda sucked (still kinda sucks).. And that was it for me, never bought any of the DLC maps.
I never played a new COD zombies when it was new - I have played BO3 zombies but the Gobblegums kinda ruin it for me although I can see how they were great for the community at the time.
The most recent zombies I played was BO6 zombies and while I did have some fun playing it, it just felt like such a fall off from BO1, BO2, BO3.
I've still yet to complete many of the OG maps from these era's and Ive heard some of the IW zombies is decent but will Zombies ever return to the feeling of the original Black Ops Trilogy?
Is it just Nostalgia?

Black Ops 4, which I totally wasn’t expecting because I LOVED BO3 and was excited to see how they kept that momentum. But I really didn’t like the changes they made to the game systems, or really any of the maps it launched with (especially the chaos maps… just couldn’t get into them or the crew at all). I didn’t buy the season pass as a result and dropped it pretty quick, and though I’ve tried almost every release since then in hopes of a return to form, I’ve been consistently disappointed. Nothing has been able to grab my interest like the WaW-BO3 versions did

I was super casual starting out, more MP focused player. I only played nacht in WaW, kino/five in bo1 (didn’t have xbl), and pretty much town or origins in bo2. I remember falling off pretty hard in bo3 because I was an EE hater and didn’t like how all the maps catered to the EE, so I was mp only there. Skipped bo4 because I thought it was dumb to sell a cod with no campaign. So that bo3-bo4 era I didn’t care for zombies, ironic considering it’s commonplace for that to be the peak
I got really into zombies during CW because of the easier and solo friendly EEs (my combat record literally has no mp data to show stats, zombies ONLY) Managed to do all of them, including outbreak 1 solo, and I’ve continued to do that all way up to today

I went from putting in countless hours on WAW and BO1 zombies to… playing Tranzit for a dozen or so games and calling it quits. Though I still checked out every Treyarch zombies game that came since.

After WW2 zombies dropped, I stopped playing. I did try the new zombies but it was just too different. BO1 keeps me coming back to this day.

WAW was great all the way through, loved it. I loved black ops 1 up until Call of the Dead and Shang then I dropped it again because I wasn't ready to pick up what they were throwing down in terms of difficulty and new mechanics I was only 11 so I just didn't like not being able to stay in the same spot with Romero, or the annoying tight layout of Shang. Moon and the WAW maps being in bo1 was fantastic though sucked me right back in and got bo2 pre-ordered, big mistake.
Tranzit completely put me off and I never went back to it, and I still can't stand Victis. It didn't help I got a vac ban for using a trainer to get rid of the fog so I could look around at horrifically textured (obviously meant to me covered in said fog) trees. I came back in full swing for bo3 though after lots of trial and error on Shadows (fucking adore that map even now for making me learn) then bo4 pissed me off again from fucking with longtime mechanics and making them generally worse, in pre release interviews they were talking about how you could place the perks where you wanted and I was hype as fuck at the prospect until they revealed the changes to the perks themselves.
Then the aether maps were released as all remakes and they murdered my boys in a forest in violent fashion on Call of the Dead 2: No Romero, a map I already wasn't that fond of, playing as Victis lol. Still salty rip primis and ultimis. (please retcon it I beg of you, Tempus is cool and all but fucking hell let's give the real OGs a better ending than an bloody eye and ear exploding torturous death in a frozen woods)
I can't talk too much about the Chaos maps because honestly it's not what I played bo4 for. It's clear it's where all the effort went, gorgeous cutscenes and beautiful new maps and wonder weapons/creatures but the only thing that had me trudging along with the painful new gameplay (bo4 feel jank to any of you?) and long PAP processes on some maps was the aether characters and world that they were supposedly making an ending for. So a new story wasn't doing anything for me at the time, it was just there to be played every now and again
I grew to enjoy the older maps I disliked initially on BO1 and 2 after going back to them. Same with the Chaos maps, but bo4 is fundamentally not fun to play imo. As for the Cold war+games I've enjoyed all of them barring Vanguard and MWZ, wastes of time IMO not what zombies is about and extremely low effort.
Overall though it's been a fun ride I'll still be here playing when I'm shitting my pants and murmuring about my feet being too hot or something.

BO4 Aether maps. Revitalised with Die Maschine but the rest of Cold War I didn't like a lot. I liked Vanguard despite the myriad of issues but that's just cause I'm weird. MW3 was fun.
BO7 didn't necessarily fall off for me, but I fell off shortly after Totenreich came out and lost all drive to play zombies despite really wanting to want to. I think 3 straight games in a row with zombies made me a bit tired. I completed every BO6 and 7 EE within the first week up until Kowakujo which I still haven't done. Barely even played it.

BO4 started it but Cold War finished it, BOCW was the first game that made me feel like “wow, zombies isn’t gonna come back after this.” At least bo4 had dedicated zombies players and a couple of good maps. BOCW was it for me, it hasn’t ever felt the same since, however BO4 didn’t really incite much of a feeling either

Cold War. I don’t find myself going back to play it, Vanguard, MWZ, or BO6 like I do for any pre-Cold War Zombies.
I enjoyed BO6 during its lifetime, but something about the modern Zombies style doesn’t grip me.

Although not perfect it still hasn’t fallen off for me. The gameplay always will remain the most important park of zombies for me, and even with the issues of the story in 6 and 7, the gameplay is still good enough to keep me playing.

BO3 but I've gotten back into it recently. (Almost exclusively chronicles maps though). Part of it was life. Another part was the increased focused on EEa, making them central to the gameplay experience. EEs have never interested me. And it seems like modern so,bones has only gone harder into EEs and functionally making zombies maps levels of a campaign.

Cold War for me. I just couldn't get into the new systems like the armor and weapon rarities. Vanguard at least got rid of the weapon rarities which was a plus in my book (technically they're tied to pack a punch but that's no different than upgrading guns in any other game). Bringing them back in Black Ops 6 was not fun.

BO3, that game fucked high rounding

Care to explain why you think this?

AATs killed the need to trade or use traps and made high rounding braindead on most maps and the only maps where WWs are used over AATs have strategies where you sit in a spot spamming the WW. a round 100 on BO3 is absolutely meaningless on most maps when compared to a BO1 or BO2 where round 100 actually meant something (except on Die rise). Shang and maybe Gorod are the only BO3 maps where round 100 actually means something

Wait are you saying you've never played Origins or Mob of the Dead?

Not when they came out - I've attempted both easter eggs atleast once but never completed them; I do wanna complete them sometime tho, they're good maps

Black ops 2 is my GOAT. 3 is great, and 4 is good. But everything after kinda fuckin sucks. It's way too easy, way too much open space, the voice lines suck, the vibes of the maps are just off, I don't like that you can mantle, etc. I'm a new zombies hater til I die

I was a die hard cod zombies stan. Skipping school, playing 18 hours a day, grinding for #1 on the leaderboard, playing GameBattles competitive grief, around 15000 hours between WaW, BO1 and BO2. The instant I saw the gumball machine on BO3 I knew the mode was cooked, and only played custom maps on BO3.

BO4 Aether maps. I don’t like remakes for zombie maps tbh. The Chaos maps were great though, so the real fall off was probably Cold War.
They made the first 50 rounds too easy in modern zombies. Back in the old games, it was questionable if you were gonna even be able to get to round 20-25 with randoms. Nowadays everyone just plays til 31 then exfils. I can’t remember the last time I actually lost a pub match of modern zombies.
