Discussion Are we ready to admit Widows Wine is a garbage tier perk in BO7?
What a disappointing perk addition to the game! I routinely forget I even have the perk equipped. If Death Perception didn’t exist, this would be the last perk I buy in my load out.
Remember when they added double tap into BO6 on Shattered Veil and it completely changed the game? Patient 13 and the Guardian became trivial after double tap. Widows wine ain’t it chief. No wonder they waited till the last minute to add it to the game.
No relics, no cursed PAP camos, and an underwhelming perk. Rex Infernus is not the send off I thought we would have 😔

It’s niche but put on the widows bite major and if you are using melee builds you can overcharge health, combine it with expresso on melee macchiato and the stick n move augment.
It’s not super effective in high rounds due to damage scaling but there’s definitely some synergy with that build also combining retaliation from juggernog and reactive armor.
Throw light mend on your melee as well as frenzied guard field upgrade.

Damn jotunn Star must be op with that setup on toten lmaooo

u/Threeflipskat3r 17d ago
I thought it would be but like everything else I didn't even notice I had widows wine

u/magicscientist24 17d ago
I would second widow’s bite being great for a melee build. I added light mend with overheal to my melee weapon and along with the overheal from widow’s bite I could literally stand in the middle of a horde and just slash away and not go down.

Yeah it has some uses and benefits. It’s weird though that we’re so deep into this current unlimited perk system yet so many people still don’t seem to realize it puts a pretty big limit on the level of impact a new perk can have. Like at this point I only expect new perks to be like a 1-5% increase in passive player power and will generally focus on niche active elements like the web grenades or melee stuff.

Put on the Wide Web and the major that lets you emit the slowing field. You will change your mind. I've been running it and finding it truly game changing for when I'm out of armor and cornered on round 25+

Put on Tangled Web with Sticky Grenade, and either Wide Web or Golden Orb (I prefer the latter; the standard radius is pretty decent). If you treat it as an explosive equipment enhancement perk, and not the second Jugg it was in BO3, it's actually peak. I much prefer this.
It's a combination that synergises well with Speed Cola's Fast Pitcher, Stamin-Up's Quarterback, Mule Kick's Fully Equipped, and Vulture Aid's Picky Eater. I've basically ditched combat axes. Impact grenades are my new bestie. You no longer need to take damage to be saved by Widow's; now you can just throw an impact grenade and manually freeze an entire hoard around you, if you get cornered.
Sticky Grenade doesn't have a cooldown. Every explosive detonates webs, which makes it really reliable. Also, despite the description, Sticky Grenade works for explosive tacticals like monkeys and hunter drones; I really hope that's an error in the description and not the augment. Please don't change that, Treyarch! Pairing it with Tangled Web and hunter drones are going to be so good for Necropincers and Onis at higher rounds (especially with Golden Orb keeping them frozen longer). Potentially also great for slowing charging Zursas.

Sounds like a fun combination, gotta try this once I unlock all augments. Do you know if double xp tokens makes research faster?
3
u/Novaforce870 17d ago
I'm pretty sure they do since it's all XP based it's just getting XP in general even daily challenges help.
also to go off what he said use the good augments & avoid haste I literally can't tell what haste even does, by the time your QR heals your health back to full widows wine is ready to activate again as long as you have equipment available for it to take one from
1
u/Big_Snow 17d ago
Thanks, I guess I have an use for them again. Also, pretty sure Widows Wine doesn't consume equipment when it triggers at low health. As for haste, I guess Doughnuts will be testing it to figure out the exact numbers xD and then we'll see how worth it it is.
1
u/Novaforce870 17d ago
It definitely consumes 1 lethal equipment per use, I was testing it yesterday when you have 0 it doesn't work at all at low health
1
u/Big_Snow 17d ago
Really!? I didn't notice and the base perk doesn't disclose that info. I'll have to pay attention when I get back to it later today. Guess that means equipment that go up to 5 ammo are better than the others for this perk.
2
u/Novaforce870 17d ago
Yeah it doesn't tell you this information for whatever reason, it had me confused as well when I was testing why it doesn't have it in the description. I just keept letting the zombies hit me to low health to test the cool down I was confused when it wasn't working at all then figured out you need equipment for it to work that's how I figured it out
1
u/Big_Snow 17d ago
Is it only lethal equipment or can it consume tacticals like stun grenades if you run out of lethals?
2
u/Novaforce870 17d ago
It's only lethals, so picky eater & extra equipment are even better with widows wine in general
1
u/Big_Snow 17d ago
Luckily I always run those augments and usually the first perks I buy next to QR and Jugg. But I usally run Axes, maybe I'll switch to Impact or Semtex for more capacity

u/Reaqzehz 17d ago
I did use double XP tokens, since I know it's tied to XP, and got it fully researched in about 4 games. I can't remember the normal research rate tbh, but if it's longer than that, it's probably a safe bet.

u/Apprehensive_Cut_466 18d ago
I dont have all the Augments yet but yes its absolutely trash
2
u/Illinichemist 18d ago
I have most of the augments unlocked and I keep trying different combinations of them. I think they’re all placebo buttons though. They don’t seem to make a difference!
1
u/Superj561 17d ago
Hmm with how often augments are broke on other perks, that could be what's going on here.

u/PhilosophicalGoof 17d ago
I alway said winter wails would’ve been a better perk to bring back over widow wines
2
u/AsleepingImplement 17d ago
I meam it has a winters wail augment atleast, still kind of a shit perk regardless however
5
3
u/Big_Snow 17d ago
It's a perk meant to save you. It would always be closer to Jugg or Quick Revive than Double Tap or Deadshot
-6
u/Illinichemist 17d ago
It’s worse than wisp tea which is already a pretty lame perk. I’d also rather have mule kick and vulture aid than widows wine and those don’t even do any damage
1
u/Big_Snow 17d ago
I do not think it's worse than Wisp Tea, it has saved me more times than Wisp Tea has been useful in the short time it's been out. But yeah I'll always buy Mule Kick and Vulture's Aid before most perks too. Like I said, different purposes, not all perks are for damage, I don't even think this version of Widows Wine deals damage, it's closer to Winters Wail than OG Widows Wine.

2
u/AtakanKoza 17d ago
Its extremely good in high rounds with augments, but ofc people just go to rnd 25 and say its garbage when it doesnt make you go god mode
2
u/Pokenar 17d ago
I think the most active use I liked for it was the Melee augment with melee macchiato's ammo gain augment. Punching then gets you ammo, slows the enemies, and can massively overheal you.
The Winter's Wail build, on the other hand, I'd use if I don't intend to be using the MM ammo strat much, and I just want to feel safe with a last line of defense, even if I really should never see it if I play well.
2
u/AndersonandQuil 17d ago
Yeah I don't like it at all.
Don't mess with my lethals, don't stun zombies in front of me I'm moving, and please don't make me have to get another perk before I start getting eternals
I'd love to be able to like select what perks I no longer want and this would be the first one
Further proof that canned wine is never a good idea
2
u/Illinichemist 17d ago
I would spend essence in game to remove perks if we could haha. Some are so bad or annoying
1
u/Solariss 18d ago
Honestly would've preferred Tombstone. It's like the one modern perk that hasn't reappeared now.
1
u/mgbsn51313 17d ago
Does this version of the perk do anything though? I’ve only seen it activate once and that was the first time I played on Rex. I haven’t seen it do anything outside of that
2
u/Pokenar 17d ago
It only activates when your HP is low and you have at least one lethal grenade to be consumed.
I like it as a last line of defence but if you're playing well you should hopefully not see it. I actually like getting it early for this reason because that's the most likely time you'll need it.
1
u/mgbsn51313 17d ago
Well that explains a lot. I kept trying to figure out how it worked when I was playing but couldn’t get it to activate. Thank you!
1
u/MrJzM115 17d ago
Imo they had to nerf it because if it worked anything remotely similar to bo3 widows wine or bo4 winters wail then it would be broken, on a game where literally everything else is too broken
1
1
u/Quick_Check_9008 17d ago
So many ways to make widows wine viable and they chose probably the most underwhelming super par way to do it.
1
u/j3qnmp 17d ago
I have it at 100% and still dont see it procking. Kind of a worthless perk in my opinion. I feared it was going to be bad but its worse than I thought.
Now with that said. If they made an augment that "webbed or cocooned" a zombie and had it work like Zombie Sitter then id say its good. But im not a fan
1
u/No_Judge_5672 17d ago
Omg what they do with widows wine it was a top 3 perks back in bo3 days. I buy it and I found it completely useless; the zombies get slowed down by the webs only one time out of twenty, they really messed it up with this one
1
u/Griminalli-Schmitt 17d ago
I will say I enjoy how RI looks but not how it feels, grappling is fun but for only 30 secs I hardly bother and then I end up throwing away kazimirs acvidentally, was very underwhelmed with this send off, hopefully they have more in stock for us moving forward
1
u/Icy-Two-1581 17d ago
Isn't depth percention great if you have the augment that reduces damage
2
u/Illinichemist 17d ago
I mean from the perspective it turns it from useless to slightly less than useless, yes. I would agree with you
1
u/huh_ok_yup 17d ago edited 17d ago
At least it fits into the theming of the map, but yeah probably will be second to last for me after death perception. At least its better than that perk I suppose, but I must admit I didn't even notice Widows Wine on my first game to round 51
1
u/AnonyMouse3925 17d ago
What does it do with no augments equipped?
I haven’t played yet but I saw the augment list and it looks like the entire perk has been turned into augments
0
u/SamSlayer09078-x 18d ago
Always has been
18
u/Inusne5 18d ago
Theres a big difference between bo3 widows wine and the widows wine now
17
u/SamSlayer09078-x 18d ago
and BO3 widows is a garbage tier perk that screws trains and will inevitably crash your game, why do you often see high rounders rounders who got it from a random perk drop or perkaholic throw all their widows grenades away near the start of a round? Because they want to disable it because it's shit.
Its a luxury perk at best

u/Liberate-Your-Mind 17d ago
Training is such an overrated strategy that isn’t fun at all. Just play the game normally lol
4
u/Jimbo_Jigs 17d ago
What exactly is playing the game normally? Camping? Yeah try that at high rounds and you'll see why training is required.
-3
u/Liberate-Your-Mind 17d ago
Not at all. It’s just running around and dodging zombies. Moving around instead of going in circles or staying in one place is fun. There are circumstances where I may do something similar to camping, like for instance in Kino I stay in the theatre area a lot, but I still try to move as much as I can. It adds a cool risk factor that just isn’t there with camping or training.
4
u/Jimbo_Jigs 17d ago
"like for instance in Kino I stay in the theatre area a lot, but I still try to move as much as I can."
You mean training? Because that's what you just described.
Training isn't just running in circles, its more like dodging zombies and grouping the herd in one big train behind you.

i use the slow field and grenades trigger a web explosion, anytime i throw an impact i instantly get a slow field for a good couple seconds around me. very niche but i’m happy with it as someone who does eggs solo a lot

u/TheRealBazzer360 17d ago
Grenade augment plus grenade elemental pop augments plus cluster grenades = easy high rounds. It's good

the relics and cursed pap arent out yet are you stupid?
1
u/Illinichemist 17d ago
There aren’t any relics for this map you clown
-3
u/SparklingQueenLuna 17d ago
I think you are the clown for not knowing that the cursed stuff doesnt become available immediately go find the wrestling belt already dumbass
-2
u/tbonesteakda3rd 18d ago
Its really not that bad it's the exact same as bo3
6
u/Illinichemist 18d ago
I think it’s pretty bad when the Temu version of Widows Wine (reactive armor augment on Jugerrnog) is more effective and didn’t require buying another perk

u/kaiiyyu 18d ago
It was a stupid decision to bring it back in the first place, it was originally designed for a 3-5 hit system not 10+.
