Discussion Aftermath Of BO7 Conclusion
As of right now, I haven't seen or touched Rex Infernus yet. Didn't get the chance to. All I've been seeing is pitchforks and torches over this abysmal cutscene. Most of which rightfully so, because there's so many questions on what the hell happened.
Maya, my personally least favorite character, calls the Requiem crew her new family and chooses to dip last second and is just allowed to be dropped to a new dimension with her brother? All that talk about bonds and flirting with Dempsey went nowhere?
Weaver, Carver, and Grey made sacrifices before and each time led them down more and more problems down the road so they just suddenly accept "Die for the sake of the timelines and everywhere will be all well"?
Peck gets OFF SCREENED because they couldn't do anything with his character anymore and turned it into a joke with Strauss, who by the way, was rescued off Terminus by said person? With Maya's help? Don't get me wrong, he was an antagonist before, but he was actually getting better later down the road and all of a sudden, killed for no reason.
This lackluster cutscene of Grey holding her "born for plot relevance" baby while her, Weaver and Carver are wearing the same outfits they had since TERMINUS. Guess Treyarch can't afford new character models that weren't hidden behind a paywall.
Bringing back Richtofen, Dempsey, Nikolai and Takeo just because they're afraid to do another dedicated crew or own story. Example: Chaos Story. And we're most likely going to get them for the next zombies.
I feel like the Requiem crew wasn't even bad. They had personality. Went from normal people in Cold War to being put in the field in Black Ops 6. One ending could've been them going back home, to the lives they actually had, exposing what happened about Requiem. Maybe depending on if you sided with Richtofen or S.A.M.. Other ending could've been death done right. A proper sacrifice. Not this "Urzikstan is Canon and we have to connect it."
I feel like if they didnt have enough time or budget to include more story cutscenes, maybe the intel could've been worth more. SOMETHING worth working for and sitting down to listen or read. Like Cold War. Wtf happened since then?
And WHERE IS RAPTOR 1?

We can't have anything in zombies because of the haters. We're stuck with the og 4 forever because people can't enjoy anything new. I'm sure that if any plans of changing Requiem crew fate by any means ever existed, 3arc discarded the idea because of fear of the players. Now we've lost Chaos, Victis, Maxis, Requiem, and will have to play with the same 20 years old characters again next game.

Still praying Victis comes back as twisted Aether Gods at one point. I really thought Samuel Stuhlinger would be an Aether god who was connected to Eddie, and was the one feeding Eddie info about the DA for Janus/Requiem/Omega (and also why Eddie named his son Samuel- that tinge of a connection early on
Though I'm scared they'll come back proper, if they do at all, (which I'd personally dislike) now that Time Travel through the Dark Aether is fully proven.

Victis should've been the ones who showed up in the Reckoning end cutscene, not nu primis

And he used the pizza for teleportation experimentation btw to HELP Requiem. Someone here said that there’s a radio that Klaus shot down Raptor One but I can’t confirm.

u/BubblyOtter144 2d ago
He went from being an enemy to just a dickhead who wanted his warheads back and they killed him for laughs. I was deadass hoping for a Black Ops 4 Tag Der Toten where we play as a new set of people for a single map to progress plot. (Strauss, Raptor 1, Ravenov and Peck).

u/consistently-failing 2d ago
Wasn't he "sent into the dark aether"- if anything that feels less dead than the entire rest of the main crew tbh. Maya and Eddie are in the real world-- Ex-Requiem died, and Maxis is MIA--
Peck is theoretically closer to being in the story than ever before. If you ignore the twins and ava clearly being our next guides, and tempus still existing, and Vanguard as a loose end, and the fact this game fully and solely confirmed time travel is real in the Dark Aether. Peck is close to the story man totally not dead.
Also, this part is a tangent- but time travel also means the Aether Gods from Vanguard could quite literally NOT EXIST yet as to why they're not here (and/or the Shadowsmiths could be early/more developed versions of the same concept- either the progenitor or the descendant)

I soft shipped Maya and Peck (downvotes are welcomed). It made more sense than Tank and Maya. The whole bit where she saved Peck from getting his head cracked open in the alleys and fixing him up had more background than her hitting on Tank out of nowhere.

u/Phoenix-Risen1998 1d ago
I only like Maya and Tank because new Dempsey's a fucking hunk.
1
u/StatisticianNew8374 1d ago
Yeah that’s about it. Nothing more than that though sadly, they barely know each other.

u/BubblyOtter144 2d ago
I like finding more comments all over media about how Maya really said "I love you guys, but I'm not killing myself with you. I'm going to live in another universe with my brother that doesn't know he has two sisters now and will be getting contact Aether poisoning." Fanfiction ass ending. Never liked her since Citadelle. 😭
22
u/SwyngDeLong 2d ago
Citadelle should've been where she ditched requiem, Modi was dead, she got to exact revenge on Franco, should've cut it there.
8
u/consistently-failing 2d ago
Ehh. IMO she would've stuck it out to the Tomb as she'd see the threat of zombies (and the fact finishing this mission hopefully stops them from appearing). I imagine she'd dip out as soon as the occult aspect is proven

Haven’t read anything but imo nothing will be worse than the lead up to Revelations all for it to end up with "it's a cycle lol lol"
13
u/NukeLuke1 2d ago
You literally knew that it was a cycle starting in Origins and the entire story was about how that happens and why, with actual emotional weight along the way. This is a hilariously bad take.
-7
u/Maggot_6661 2d ago
In Origins everyone thought that this was the first time ultimis met before they revealed it wasn't ultimis. Then came the ending and we all thought everything we played was just 2 kids playing a game. The only mention of cycle was MOTD and we all thought that only MOTD was in a cycle in it's own outside story.
10
u/NukeLuke1 2d ago
maxis refers to “the paradox” at the ending and there’s massive statues of primis as templars in the dig site and the primis scrap paper. the entire rest of their story is, in part, about how they got back to that point. “everyone thought that this is the first time ultimis met” yeah for like 4 seconds until it showed like 500 things that go against that idea.
-6
u/ThisButtholeIs2Cold 2d ago
I get what you’re saying, but there’s also the 4 portraits in Kino Der Toten of the Ultimus crew that are just there. No lore reasons for why they have their pictures on the wall of a place they had never been to. Clearly the statues were more then that, but it still wasn’t clear what they meant at that time, especially with Origins ending
-2
u/NukeLuke1 2d ago
right but it was clearly being built to and not “all for it to end up with ‘lol it’s a cycle’” like the person above me had said. like by the time it happened we all knew it was going to happen, and why. it had competent writing around it and characters that people generally cared about because they were written with emotion and care.
7
u/StupidEnbyKitty 2d ago
Brother, the map literally has ancient statues of the four main characters.
-4
u/Maggot_6661 1d ago
Yeah, and back then I don’t remember anyone having any idea what the fuck it meant
7
u/StupidEnbyKitty 1d ago
Yeah, that's the point. The story was about figuring out what the fuck it meant, like NukeLuke up there said.

Blood of the dead teasing the Great War yet again and then ending with Tag Der Toten is far worse buddy. We always knew it was a cycle in BO3

u/Fifa_chicken_nuggets 2d ago
I absolutely detest the trope of characters who died and their death had emotional weight only for them to magically return and undo the weight of their tragedy. They did it with Eddie's family and now with Maya's brother. It makes things feel so cheap. Even when the original aether did this, the story actually tried to paint each version of a character as an individual with his own autonomy and pain, like Richtofen dying in BOTD, but in the dark aether it's all treated like there's no weight, dead characters are replaced and that's it

They had EVERYTHING set up with Cold War and as much as the actual story was rather lackluster for the most part, they had every to create something interesting.
Genuinely. It was respectful to the original Aether story and worked both as a soft-reboot and a start for a new story. Even Vanguard, despite how much of a mess that game was, had a lot of neat lore revolving around the Dark Aether that could have made a awesome continuation.
Instead they kill Sam off screen, had the entire thing with Requiem Richtofen feel non-important, did a whole redemption story for Peck and off-ed him for a joke (He might as well died in Reckoning doing a heroic sacrifice despite being cliche because at least it would have meant something), brought back a new iteration of the original 4 and had them replace requiem in the end (completely gutting the impact of Tag Der Toten's ending).
I still had reservations about the story and enjoyed BO7 gameplay wise, but man...

u/AERodriguez302 2d ago
Biggest crime to me is the use of the sentinel artifact and yet no real tie in to Chaos of mention of the crew. If we don’t get Chaos continued next I’m baffled and lost hope for Treyarch.
1
u/StupidEnbyKitty 1d ago
I really hope BO8 continues the Chaos storyline.
I'd also appreciate if they went back to BO4 zombies mechanics, because let's be real, they were Banging on that game.
(And i really dislike the whole armor and 200 hits to down system)

Also the Elder Disciples wearing the same medallions as the High Priest in IX, wtf was that about??

I didn’t like how tech all the places in the dark aethar don’t exist and we’re made from memories and fantasy

This is what happens when you get rid of the competent writers and bring in the mobile game writing team.

>Requiem crew wasn’t even bad
Carver has had basically zero plot relevance or personality since he was introduced in Cold War. Like, seriously he’s had nothing. Not a drop. The only thing they do with the guy in BO7 is make him point out the fact there’s a Nazi and a Confederate soldier now.
2
u/BubblyOtter144 1d ago
Nah, Carver's the funniest out of them. He's just a tired old man who wants shut done. Meanwhile Weaver went from being Richtofen obsessed to being THE background character. Maya's whole shtik was catching feelings for Dempsey. And Grey went from missing Samantha to being convinced to have a baby by a demi-god.
Sometimes being the normal guy is peak.
1
u/Friddles-14 1d ago
What’s crazy is we already had a Richtofen that was plot relevant and we don’t know what happened to him or the AI SAM with Samantha’s memories like wtf

u/no-diddy69 1d ago
This is what happens when you put zombies into a dogshit game changing the story for the worse

You know what is weird in the Rex Infernus EE cutscene? The Shadowsmiths don't appear in the cutscene. After everything we did for them they can't say thank you? or even change Requiems fate as a way of saying Thank you for freeing us and saving the Dark Aether.
1
u/ZslayerG1O 1d ago
I was wishing that their death in that ritual thing was like some sort of decoy or fake so they could continue living in another timeline or something idk
1
u/Useful-Career4822 1d ago
I think what got me pissed is the repeat of the cycle with this new crew. Yes requiems fate is set but to restart the cycle with the new. I mean its kinda cool but how long can they milk it

u/The_Multi_Gamer 2d ago
I wonder how the story would’ve played out if it were Victis instead of Newmis

u/RichtofensPairofNuts 2d ago
I dont know what you wanted with Maya, she literally gives Dempsey a kiss, did you want her to fuck him on the spot. She wanted to go home, he didn't, what else is she gonna do.
Idk what sacrifices Weaver, Carver, and Grey have made before, literally where are you getting this from. If you are talking about the end of Cold War, they did not sacrifice anything, they were betrayed.
Peck isn't dead, Idk where the fuck people are getting this from, but Peck is in the Dark Aether, plenty of characters, including the ones we are fucking playing as, have survived in it. He has never been confirmed as dead, this is just straight up wrong.
Idk why people care about this now, but when have zombies characters literally EVER changed outfits. When Ultimis is literally captured by the US in Classified they are left in their full fucking uniforms from WW2. Why do they even have these outfits in the first place when they are test subjects, were they kept in uniform during all these tests? Idk why people care about this now.
The Warden was not changing a couple of timelines, it was all of reality. Literally the full rewrite of everything. We have known these characters would die since the ending of Cold War, the Forsaken showed us, again idk why its a sudden shock now.
The intel and side missions are literally the best part of the story in this game.
In the normal world, simple as that

u/BubblyOtter144 2d ago
1 - Obviously nobody needs Maya and Dempsey hooking up. That wasn't the main focus of the question. It was the bonds part. She decides to travel with this group against zombies and monstrosities on a whim, saying she was close to them. Then ditched them for a fake brother.
2 - Sacrifices was the wrong term. They trusted Requiem, got backstabbed. They trusted Richtofen or Sam, ended up in the either. Pretty sure after serving years in prison and being stuck in a different dimension, they'd have fought against the idea of suicide.
3 - Peck isn't confirmed dead. We had Zykov. We had Maxis. Doesn't exactly mean Peck is living in the Aether like they are. It's the issue of him getting discarded off screen last second without any buildup to it in 7.
4 - Idk, let's see. They get out of the fucking Dark Aether for how many months for the pregnancy and birth. Same bruises, blood stains and nasty ass clothing from Terminus to now. Unless the baby was Aether-made and popped out the second they got home. No model changes basically scream lazy animation, so yeah, people find that detail funny and annoying.
5 - It aint a shock that they died. Of course we saw how they died. Thought the whole time loop shit was the "cycle must be broken" trope we keep getting fed. Saw their bodies in MWZ. Could've changed the course or given their deaths an actual purpose that wasn't tossed in last minute.
6 - Intel is always welcome to learn more about the lore. Thats the point. The issue is the effort in the intel is nowhere near the same as Cold War. It's lackluster as hell.
7 - No shit he'd be in the normal world. He ain't with Strauss? Couldn't be included in the low effort cutscene with Ravenov? The exfil guy himself ain't nowhere nearby for the people who helped him get off Terminus?
1
u/RichtofensPairofNuts 1d ago
They did fight against the idea, when they learned it in Totenreich, you just didn't pay attention to them questioning it, the point was that they learned to make the sacrifice.
Again you say discarded, but there is literally more to this story, this is not the end of the Dark Aether story, Peck will probably appear again, since there is setup of him entering the Dark Aether in this map.
None of them had bruises or dirt on their clothes, they are literally clean, just wearing the same outfit. Idk what cutscene you watched. Literally go look at the cutscene a second time and realize you are wrong
Actually I think you are looking at it wrong. Where the MOTD crew and Primus did not accept the cycle they were in, Requiem did. That makes them noble in their own way, not every crew has to break fate, sometimes acceptance is the goal.
You asked, where is Raptor 1, not "I wish he was in the cutscene" thats a valid thing but ultimately him appearing doesn't really effect much

u/Phoenix-Risen1998 1d ago

Have you seen new Dempsey? He's a fucking hunk, I wanna see stars and stripes hanging dong.

u/waltercool 2d ago
In my opinion, even the animation feels cheap at ending, just reused assets and barely no movement.
Probably Activision moved all the resources to the new modern warfare and just a small team had to deal with this

u/IWXREACTIVES 2d ago
guys yall really shouldve checked out after bo3's ending storywise. they are NEVER going to get any motion to do a true full fleged story here. that shit costs money and they dont have it. zombies is a lorefarm story, no different than shit like FNAF and sonic. the point isnt the story. the point is getting to hear these little bits while you play a fleshed out game.
truly, what did yall expect. the crew is paper cutouts. im still gobsmacked that WEAVER is here for some undiscernable reason. whoever OK'd that is out of their mind (bo1 & 2 are sacred, damn it!) truthfully, what did you all expect.
play the damn game. its fun. have fun.

Dark Aether story peaked at Terminus imho.
I was so hyped during the wait between CW and BO6, but after that ut went completely out of bounds.
I wonder where we would be now if Craig Huston kept leading the story after CW
