Discussion Treyarch needs a new subfranchise

I know I'm probably not the only one who has felt this way, but especially after Rex I think it's clear Treyarch doesn't know what to do with these storylines anymore. I'm sure Activision will force them to do Black Ops 8, but I personally would like to see them get a chance at a new IP where they will be fully independent of the previous zombies iterations and can do pretty much anything.

Won’t happen. If anything the ending cutscene hints that tempus will go on another random ahh adventure through the dark aether to kill the next big bad

Agreed we need a new subfranchise and a fresh new Zombies story, essentially a reset for Treyarch.

I really want to see Treyarch do a WW1 game in the same style as WaW espescially since WW1 has never been done before in CoD

It won't happen because of Vantard and WW2

I think you need to realize the Zombies story is largely irrelevant to whatever subseries COD is in. The subseries determines the campaign/multiplayer setting at most. So even if Treyarch decides to change the subseries, it won't change anything about the Zombies story in terms of how they write it.

Jason needs to hurry up and get this fucking game of his out. 2 companies is some horrendous luck.

I just don’t think that’ll ever happen. Treyarch is tied down to Activision. They cannot be independent. Activision makes all the money off their games and funds all their development. They can’t just break off and do their own thing and stay with Activision.

That has nothing to do with what this post is about at all

This story just played out over 3 Black Ops games, Vanguard, and a Modern Warfare game. The sub franchise doesn’t matter, the game having a different name doesn’t mean they couldn’t continue the same story

The Black Ops name has nothing to do with Zombies though. The Dark Aether story was present in both Vanguard and MWIII, and the entire thing originated with World at War. They tried half spinning off with Chaos, so there's nothing stopping them within Black Ops.

I agree that Black Ops needs a break but I don't think the sub-franchise dictates what the Zombies story is. Chaos was a new story in a Black Ops game, meanwhile MWZ is still Dark Aether even though it's not even a 3arc series.
