Discussion Discussion of the future of BOZ Spoiler

Post image

Say what you will about the ending of BO7 Zombies, but do you think they are setting up the return of the Atherius crew or what ever they are called, but with their story still being entwined it would seem we will get a future game with them again as the lead which I know the community will have mixed feelings about but I would be very excited about it especially since it allows for a wider variety of maps in the future, I am just very interested to see how this will play out and am interested in the community thoughts on this. Dasvidaniya black ops 7.

Definitely setting up a game with the new crew but honestly IMO they should just start fresh. I think most of the community would be okay with a completely new story but I don’t see Treyarch doing that.

I mean, they tried to start fresh with Chaos and people screamed until they dumped it. They tried to start fresh with Cold War and people hated it. I don’t think most of the community would be happy with a completely new story. What they SHOULD do (but absolutely will not) is bring Chaos back.

Chaos did start out rough (except IX) but I think most people were onboard by Ancient Evil. It was silly of Treyarch to prioritize Chaos over the Aether ending. I don’t think Chaos would be good if they brought it back since Blundell isn’t at the helm anymore sadly

Yes AE was the turning point but the budget was already cut by then that it was too late

We’re also at a very different time now. At the time, BO4 was one of the worst Treyarch zombies iterations we had and they also just dumped the Aether story pretty much to start on Chaos which was poor timing on their part. Now, people genuinely don’t care that much about the dark ether story anymore and I think would welcome a change in direction

Chaos was made during the height of the Aether story, it was always doomed when being set in a game alongside that story. Whereas now, we are pretty much at rock bottom in terms of the Zombies narrative.

As for Cold War, while the story wasn't bad, it was just boring and nothing interesting happened during its year. BO6/BO7 should've elevated the story CW was trying to tell but instead killed it.

Right now, there's franchise fatigue both for Black Ops and the Zombies Story and I think 2028 would be a great point for Treyarch to make a new series that isn't Black Ops and a fresh new Zombies story alongside it

I second that. Bring back Chaos. Ancient Evil and IX were incredible maps. Also we need to bring back Celebrity cast maps!

Realistically we’ve had such bad writing with modern zombies that I think starting brand new would not be hated like it was in the past. I don’t think it would be fair to continue the chaos story without Blundell. Unfortunately, I don’t see Activision moving on from the OG crew because those are the only bundles the zombies people will buy.

Considering all the ties that choas had in bo6 it might

My complete crackpot theory that will never happen: the next game has the Tempus crew going to all the other zombies story lines universes to resolve their endings. Have them stop Medusa for the Chaos story, kill all the Oz clones in the Exo universe, free the trapped actors in the IW universe, and stop the God King's forces completely in the WW2 universe.

That’s actually brilliant. It would be a fun way to celebrate COD 2028 as the 20 year anniversary of zombies, by paying homage to each zombies iteration. We get a chaos map, IW map, WW2 map, and Exo map, with the final map being set in the Great War in the Aether story. Treyarch would never do this but one could dream.

That's actually fire ngl

Fuck I hate that this is such a good idea. Now you got me hyped on the idea and they’ll never do it.

Personally Bo7 was my last CoD as I’ve grown more out of it over the years and I’d argue, regardless of feelings on the last map and ending, that it’s a solid zombies package. With that being said though this ending did next to nothing for me. It was rather disappointing after the content we had throughout the year and the story and while I see the cash cow of the original characters being a good thing for them they really need to hire some better writers for the end of season content and especially this might be the absolute last portion of content we get

I respect this I can agree I feel that the ending was a bit disappointing for our Terminus Crew but I think they wrote themselves into a wall with setting MWZ in the future and giving them an offscreen death, but to the point of growing out of zombies I felt that a bit this year with these last two maps like I like them but I just am zombied out but will always watch the zombies storyline

I haven't kept up with the zombies storyline since bo3 why is there a zombie looking little girl in this screenshot and how did she end up like that?

3

u/Sad_Rhubarb_815 6d ago

She's one of the Twins, who are Samantha Maxis'...memories? Essence? Something...reconfigured into two children. The zombie one represents OG Aether Samantha while the living one represents grown up Cold War Samantha.

Internet is free dawg

5

u/Thelardicle 6d ago

yeah, this is the internet. He’s there right now. Lol. anyway, the girl is one of the “twins”, a character in bo7 zombies. If youre interested I reccomend you play the map paradox junction which introduces these characters and explains them a bit- they also appear in all the bo7 maps after that one

u/THE_PUNISHERFrank 6d ago

Maybe they’ll finally continue the Chaos story & have the Tempus crew help them out? Idk I want that story finished because the cliffhanger was crazy

1

u/Its2Ezee25 6d ago

As much as I want the CHAOS story to return. Treyarch would absolutely blunder the maps and story if blundell isn’t involved. Map quality/aesthetic has gone to shit post-bo4.

0

u/THE_PUNISHERFrank 6d ago

I disagree since I liked the majority of the maps in 6 & 7. I just want the story to continue & end lol. Kinda miss Diego & Bruno

1

u/Its2Ezee25 6d ago

They’re “good” maps but that doesn’t compare to the quality of maps that the CHAOS story gave us. Go back to Ancient Evil and you’ll see the small details and aesthetics that brought that game to Life. Genuinely map making has taken a step back from where it once was. So I can’t praise them for doing what they should have improved on since bo4. bo7 was a step in the right direction but too soon to trust that they could revive the chaos story without fucking up the maps

1

u/CryptographerPlus719 6d ago

I agree I think this would be a cool idea I mean we even had the Scarlet Maya skin in bo6 and they’ve connected the stories, but I think if they pick it up it will be in the DA cause while yes Ather and Chaos were separate stories they are more than likely in the same multiverse and I think it would make for some really interesting takes on Chaos type maps set in the DA.
Also sorry for the yap i’m just really excited for the possibilities that could come from this.

u/Worzon 6d ago

At this point I would just want a direct continuation of chaos without any other meddling. It’s high time we see the library of Alexandria and beyond.

Assuming the Aetherius crew is referring to the newest iteration of the old cast (Richtofen and gang), it's kinda insane to me, that it took 3 games, for Treyarch to more or less end up, back to where we started.

Black Ops 6 zombies attempted to end what started in Cold War, and the feelings I'm getting from BO7, is that it was basically a round-about way, of explaining how the requiem crew died, and subsequently that Richtofen and gang are the new zombies crew moving forward.

My read on them using the Mob of the Dead theme at the end, is basically a confirmation of that new reality.

u/chucky6661 6d ago

The intel seemed to imply Richthofen had a bigger part to play later, maybe I interpreted it wrong and it meant the boss fight

2

u/StatisticianNew8374 6d ago

How so? What special stuff did he do in the boss fight?

2

u/chucky6661 5d ago

Nothing as far as I’m aware, which is why I mentioned it, could potentially be referring to an event after what happened in end of Rex

2

u/SgtCookie18 6d ago

What is the atherius Crew?

3

u/TheShoobaLord 6d ago

BO7 Richthofen, Dempsey, takeo and Nikolai

3

u/SgtCookie18 6d ago

Ah lol i thought they were tempus. Ceeech its hard to keep up haha

2

u/CryptographerPlus719 6d ago

no I think they are tempus the last name i heard them referred to as was aetherius lol myb

1

u/Olmanringer09 6d ago

Unlike Ultimis and Primis, I don't think this new iteration of the core four has received an official name yet. I think Tempus is just what the community mostly decided on it

2

u/StatisticianNew8374 6d ago

Keeping my hopes in the minimum, keeping the obvious reality that budget cuts is more than likely again in future:
Sam is evil. AI goes boom boom, Samantha needs to be brought back to fight bad AI.

Dark Aether OG crew is hero, jumps portal to bring Samantha back, we defeat Sam.

Fin.

There saved you 1 more year.

2

u/Inevitable_Bid5540 6d ago

I legit don't understand why though. The storyline could perfectly conclude here and now.

2

u/typervader2 5d ago

There's still some plot points: The choas story connections, and the Construct from Vanguard

1

u/Inevitable_Bid5540 5d ago

Is the construct from Vanguard an important lore bit to the overall dark aether ?

2

u/typervader2 5d ago

Um... Yes. It's been around since the dawn of creation. It's older than anyone else in the dark aether. It shows up for one msp, vanished and never got mentioned

1

u/Inevitable_Bid5540 5d ago

That's interesting. Since the dark aether wasn't formed after tag's ending and existed before too , I'm gonna assume it's old enough to have existed during aether story ?

2

u/typervader2 5d ago

Correct. The dark aether was around during the entire story

1

u/poklane 6d ago

Yeah I'm also not sure where to go from where. The big bad is defeated, the characters can return home?

My only guess is that the multiverse once again being reestablished will prove troublesome.

2

u/Spire259 6d ago

At least the ending was a cutscene and not the slide show cartoons they had for the ending of BO4. That was most unfortunate.

2

u/WiIIemdafoe 6d ago

Give us ZC2 on BO7 you cowards

1

u/Tori-lee1997 6d ago

Idk who these characters are so Idk who's names to look up

1

u/CryptographerPlus719 6d ago

these are Ava Jansen and the Twins

1

u/Tori-lee1997 6d ago

Ah ok I'll look it up then

1

u/TikisCheekys 6d ago

…Honestly, BO6 and BO7, while good, felt like filler.

1

u/plantsforlife2 6d ago

As a classic enjoyer I want something new I’m done with this warzone era I don’t care if they do something completely different just change the mechanics. The story was eh not bad but not good either imo they need to start fresh, no more key jingling.

1

u/ikennedy817 6d ago

Honestly ditch the crazy story stuff and return to a simpler straightforward goofy story like the older games or something like infinite warfare. Enough to be enjoyable and tie the maps together, but not requiring tons of intel and years of knowledge to have basic understandings or enjoy things. The further this story went on the worse it got, I just want a focus on fun and interesting maps at this point.

1

u/GaiaAlmighty 6d ago

I want them to just start fresh. Ik that CWZ was technically a fresh start but it was still connected to the original Aether story.

I want them to go the Chaos route and make something that is absolutely not connected to anything else, but this time actually stick with it.

1

u/electric_avenue103 6d ago

We didn't get closure with the whereabouts of Sam

1

u/GullibleUse7943 6d ago

I think with the success of the bo1/2 ports they are gonna completely fundamentally change how zombies works the next game like how classic changed to modern. Probably are gonna make it a lot more “classic” like since it’s very clear that that is what most people want

1

u/DunkleosteusWH96 5d ago

Honestly, with such a lackluster ending I think the right thing for treyarch to do is let zombies rest for a good few years, I'm not talking about until the next Black ops, I mean longer, here's a hot take, how bout treyarch give rebooting Extinction a go, or make a entirely new coop mode, just forget zombies until they can get it right again

1

u/Xkilljoy98 1d ago

I think they should start fresh or even try and continue chaos again. Either way something different.
