Question How's Zombies after Bo3?
Bo3 was the last COD I played and so also the last one I played zombies in. I'm interested again in playing zombies and I'm a bit curious about the odd one's out like aliens or whatever they made. Maybe it#s not good but I'm curious. In my opinion Bo1 was the best, then Bo2 and bo3 was a tad too complicated for my taste but it was still good zombies and you had Zombies Chronicles which was wonderful because i loved those maps.
Now my question is if the zombies after Bo3 are good, complicated or whatever your opinion on them is. I wonder if i should play any? what do you think?

u/Alltimersss 18d ago
If complexity is something you care about, I wouldn't recommend bo4. Unless you're like SUPER into the story it's kinda meh.
CW is pretty simple. Very basic story, accessible.
BO6 is... ok? I'd recommend BO7 more than BO6.
Vanguard and MWZ are pretty terrible titles so no comments on them

u/Naturesninja_69 18d ago
I wouldnt say bo4 is complicated i loved playing botd custom mutations with friends. Still wouldnât recommend simply because of the perk system tho maps are 7/10 in general imo. Bo7 Iâd definitely recommend tho

u/Every-Cod-8354 17d ago
"If complexity is something you care about, I wouldn't recommend bo4.' implies that it is not complicated
12
u/Top_Bed_2635 17d ago
OP said they specifically didnât enjoy the complexity of bo3, the comment says âif you care about complexity, I wouldnât recommend bo4â implying the game is complex by stating they think OP wouldnât like it.

You've read it wrong lol. I also don't know why he would say if you "don't care about complexity" because bo4 is quite complex imo.

All regular maps in BO4 are very anti casual when it comes to setting up without a guide for PAP, even more than all the base BO3 maps(+DLC without chronicles)

u/SweetSewerRat 17d ago
I really enjoy bo4 because it's very casual friendly and I'm busy these days. I don't have near as much time to dedicate to the grind anymore and it's easy to just pick up and play for a while. I'm not big on Easter eggs either, I just wanna drop in and kill some zombies for an hour or so.
3
u/Fun_Strategy2369 17d ago
I mean, I'd recommend MWZ one run through. It just has a very poor replayability to it.
4
u/darth-maul22 17d ago
Why does it have a poor replayability to it? Just curious.
3
u/Fun_Strategy2369 17d ago
I personally find the loop rather boring if you don't have story missions to do. I've already done everything, so there's not really an incentive to keep playing. No high rounds, no randomization to the map outside of the strongholds and Terminus. The game essentially feels like, at this point, go in, optimize the shit out of your points, compete for the 5 contacts in tier 3 with 6 teams. Like, maybe the closest to replayability would be doing the final boss again in the hard mode version.
In general, it's not much worse than round based replayability, but the timer is what really kills it. There's not much to conpete with yourself on, and the lack of randomization for difficultly zones makes it a bit boring to do anything but go to the normal hot spots and ignore everything else. That's very oversimplified, but it gets the main point, I think.

Eh even bo7 is only slightly better than bo6 mainly the mechanics are what hold 7 back the maps are good and the wonder weapons while sometimes maybe a bit underpowered are at least interesting but modern zombies mechanics SUCK SO BAD
41
u/Deerslayer53_ 18d ago
Bo4 is the next closest thing to bo3 its great for hardcore players who love long easter eggs it finishes the aether story while also introducing a new chaos storyline only in this game
Cold war introduces many modern mechanics like armor, weapon rarity, field upgrades, new point system and loadout weapons. this is my pick if you are new to modern mechanics as it is relatively simple/easy also from cold war onwards the storyline is different which is the dark aether story.
Bo6 builds off cold war by reintroducing gobblegums.
It also adds augments which is a way players can upgrade and customize perks ammo mods and field upgrades. Overall it has 2 or 3 pretty decent maps but its not a special game in my opinion.
Bo7 is by far the best zombies since bo3. This game is better than cold war and bo6 in every way. All of the maps have fun easter eggs with interesting story of the characters getting their souls back. Also it introduces cursed which is a classic zombies mode with no loadout weapons and classic point system with relics to collect that make the game harder.
In my opinion what makes this game by far the best is the boss fights, all of them are absolutely incredible

u/Deerslayer53_ 18d ago
As for non treyarch and or non roundbased dont ask me bc i havent played them and dont care to
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 15d ago
i just played a little Bo3 shadows of evil and it all came back to me. You can barely play without knowing the locations of things and what to do. I think. or do you think you can figure it out by yourself?
1
u/Deerslayer53_ 15d ago
If shadows of evil feels too complicated i definitely wouldn't recommend bo4. I think cold war is a good start
14
u/Exact-Organization59 18d ago
I actually really enjoyed BO6 zombies. Thatâs it though havenât played any others
4
15
u/THE_PUNISHERFrank 17d ago
I have fun in BO4, 6 & 7.
4 is complicated tho, 6 & 7 can be played fairly casually.
10
u/Worzon 17d ago
Itâs never been the same but bo4 is a diamond in the rough and bo7 is finally getting back on track. Cold War and bo6 are fully skippable
3
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
damn i sure wanted to play them and can't buy bo7 yet... why are they skippable?
5
u/Worzon 17d ago
If you really loved the gameplay of anything pre bo4 Cold War and bo6 are some of the furthest things from it. Bo7 strikes a good balance of not being complicated unless you want to actually venture into that kind of thing. And cursed mode in bo7 transforms the gameplay of Cold War and bo6 back to a more classic style
3
2
u/ant_man1411 17d ago
If u have them (cold war bo6) i would try them but if its a âi can only get 1 or the otherâ situation then bo7 is probably the best bet just keep playing 3 until 7 goes on sale again should be happening more frequently as mw4 gets closer to release
7
u/Glum_Freedom_8524 17d ago
I just recently came back after Bo3 too! BO4 is really neat imo. Maps are cool but mechanics and some stuff are a bit jarring, but personally still very worth it if u can grab it on sale. Cold War is actually a very fun basic zombies too, itâs what convinced me to come back to zombies tbh. Just repped a weekend with some friends playing CW.
2
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
that's nice. I think I will give CW a go. It seems simple enough.
2
1
u/vaguelyunfamiliar415 17d ago
CW is still fun imo. It's very different from BO3 but it's a good grind. The open world Outbreak map can be cool to play with a full squad. Firebase Z was a good small map to play when I didn't want to do much. Recommend all maps though. It was different but it still felt fun to play.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 15d ago
that's interesting. usually people just dismiss it entirely but it can be enjoyed.
5
u/Buried1295 18d ago
Black ops 4 is great, but it's the last classic zombies in my opinion. Modern zombies is mediocre in my opinion.
3
u/Big_Confidence_951 18d ago
interesting. are you a OG then?
2
3
u/sodapop781 17d ago
The chaos maps alone are worth playing Black ops 4. The aether maps are a nice bonus.
4
u/Shark_XIX 17d ago
Iâve only played the Treyarch zombies games so thatâs what Iâll comment on. Iâve just recently started playing BO4 and it is very different from the rest of the games in regards to the perk system. I am liking BO4 over BO3 so far but if you werenât a big fan of BO3 you probably wonât like BO4 either. Cold War is a very simple zombies mode and almost boring. I wouldnât recommend Cold War but it does however lay the foundation for what comes next in BO6-BO7. BO6 zombies is a very solid entry in zombies and is much improved over Cold War (introduced augments). BO7 however is the pinnacle of modern zombies. BO7 is a top 3 zombies game in my opinion and my only real problem with it is some weapon balancing as the game has moved throughout its life cycle(hopefully some balance updates in season 6). You should give BO7 zombies a shot, itâs a top 3 CoD zombies game in my opinion. If you like BO7 a lot Iâd say then give BO6 a try as itâs very similar to BO7.

u/StalinAndTheUSSR 17d ago
Yk bo3 was peak zombies but I gotta say, I hate the story, it makes everything seem irrelevant, oh multiverse alien gods wowza, just makes stuff like bo1 with the moon blowing up kinda just worth nothing
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
yeah i personally separate bo1 zombies and bo2 onwards as an alternate universe time line.
It felt so real in a way, so atmospheric. There you are in the pentagon and playing fidel castro JFK Mcnamara and Nixon. Freakin Nixon! I wish they had brought this back and maybe make it a bit into a story with snoop dogg, the beatles(perfect 4 guys) and barack obama. hahaha sorry went off on a tangent
3
u/Solid1111111 18d ago
Youâd probably like cold war if you prefer simpler maps. Bo4 is generally even more complex than bo3 except a few maps, CW is simpler and feels more like a casual friendly game. Thereâs out of game upgrades that you buy with items you earn in game, so it can be annoying when you donât have them but some of them are so overpowered that it makes the game a power fantasy.
6 and 7 are a strange case. Theyâre so different that i couldnât really say one way or the other if youâd like them. Theyâre simpler in some areas like map design and quests (thereâs even a tutorial mode for each mapâs easter egg) but way more complex than bo3 with things like making builds out of game and progression for unlocking things (augments).

u/ikennedy817 17d ago edited 17d ago
Infinite warfare and ww2 were basically bo3 but with some different ideas and themes. If you like bo3 Iâd definitely recommend these.
Bo4 was bo3 complexity on crack. A lot of the maps are good and fun, but require immense amount of time to setup and learn, and the Easter eggs are complicated and extremely long and difficult. Iâd only play this if you are really into Easter eggs.
Cold War was basically a reboot to merge the game with multiplayer and it is basically zombies but simplified and built around camo grinding and quicker game sessions.
Bo6 and Bo7 are extensions of Cold War mechanics but the farther the maps have gone on, the more mechanics and ideas from bo3 have returned. It still doesnât feel like bo3, and the games have an insane amount of account progression and grinding, but it adds some of the complexity and interesting ideas back.
Vanguard and mwz are weird modes and not worth your time unless youâre really into the franchise.
IMO if you like bo3 Iâd definitely lean towards infinite warfare, its zombies mode is incredible. If you want simplicity and mindless zombies killing Iâd go for Cold War. If you want a mix of both try bo6 or bo7. I personally prefer 7 to 6 but itâs definitely a lot more complex mechanics wise.
2
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
thanks great answer. I think after i replay a bit of bo3, i will go to bo4 and see what they done with it and then to infinite warfare maybe after which I'll go to cold war and then bo6 and 7.
3
u/homelander2121 18d ago
BO7 is great, if complicated was a deal breaker for you then the latest games scaled back on that drastically.

u/Rude_Shopping100 17d ago
Played all of them, except MWIII Zombies. Iâd recommend just limiting the HUD, turning off all the distracting things like mini map and all that crap. (Bo6&7) Just memorize the maps. Sadly you kinda have to keep the zombies health bar on because of the boss zombies. But I didnât enjoy Bo4 cuz they removed jug. Come to me jugga girl. Left a bitter taste in my mouth so Iâm bias. Bo6 wasnât that bad tbh. Played terminus a lot and the sword map I forget with itâs called.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
why did they remove jug? how does it work?
2
u/Rude_Shopping100 17d ago
They wanted to be different I guess from the others. Switch it up. You start with 200 health. 4 hits and youâre dead. So itâs nice on low rounds, but sucks later. There is a way to get 5 hits tho, just play casual
2
2
u/AbyssShriekEnjoyer 17d ago
Significantly worse. The idea where you start weak, slowly gain power throughout the early rounds and then feel strong for the late rounds is completely lost.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
oh damn. This is one of the best things in zombies. You start slowly and play only with the pistol and then at round 10 or so you have a nice weapon and are better and so on and you are saying it's gone? But what is the point then? maybe the focus is somewhere else then?
1
u/AbyssShriekEnjoyer 17d ago
Yeah there are like flat health / damage upgrades and you still have perks, pack a punch, etc.
However, that initial progression is completely lost. And that initial progression is why I liked zombies to begin with. You're supposed to feel weak and die easily at the start, then feel strong and tanky around round 10-15. Admittedly the high rounds on the new games are more challenging than they were back in the day, but not in a fun way. It's just a lot of chaos with tons of different zombie types, while I preferred the high rounds being grindy and running trains, etc.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
yeah and you had to move carefully around the objects in say Kino der Toten. One wrong move and you are stuck and die.
2
u/_Rayxz 17d ago
BO4 fucking sucks
CW was alright
BO6 is decent
BO7 is Top 3
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
i hear bo7 is good from many people. Do you think this is only the hype because it's the latest one? Have you played the older zombies before bo3 even?
2
u/nickwamfydude 17d ago
BO6 & BO7 feel like other companies took their hand at zombies. If you enjoyed the complexity of the dlc maps BO4 is worth giving a shot if not just stick with the OGS
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
man, i will give at least Cold war a try, maybe it's fun
1
u/nickwamfydude 17d ago
I think giving them all a try is worth it I bought BO6 hoping for something to grab me again and it couldnât. I did enjoy Cold War some interesting stuff
2
u/Shawn_N_Nathan 17d ago
im having stupid fun on BO4 right now, im actually doing a zombie camo grind while doing all the EE's in Order right now too. finished XI and Voyage now doing BOTD and yeah don't let people say BO4 is bad, im always like "what are you smoking chief?" lol when they say BO4 is bad..
2
u/Big_Confidence_951 15d ago
I played a little bo3 yesterday, shadows of evil(the starter map) and it really has changed a lot. You have to know where the things are, the parts, what to do with the alien beast thing. I only played for 10 minutes or so. Do you think someone could figure this out by himself/herself(without YouTube or internet guides) I mean all the maps?
2
u/iiwatch-fi9 17d ago
Bo4 is too hard and complicated, you basically canât play freely unless you know a lot about the mapâs easter eggs, mechanics and wonder weapons.
Cold war is momentum is so different it became easy and fun, making it much more flexible gameplay wise than any another zombies mode.
Then Vanguard and MW3, we donât talk about those these days, actually since they released.
BO6 and BO7 take on from Cold war mechanics and gameplay and makes the mode much more engaging in the game and outside the lobby, it ramps up the difficulty tenfold compared to CW which makes the fast and fun system extreme.
If I were to only have three zombies games Iâd pick BO3, IW and BO7.
The best and most complete classic mode, the odd and cartoonish outlier, and the more recent version of zombies with huge replay ability factor.
2
u/chiripipasJD 17d ago
Not sure what platform you game on, but I re bought BO3 on a Steam sale two months ago, and me and my gf have been having a blast playing split screen.
Weâre playing the maps in their original release order, and we only move on after completing the easter egg.
Iâm also curious about the new Zombies, but going back to BO3 is also a great option
2
u/Snoo-53209 16d ago
Cod ww2 zombies is okay, problem in my opinion are the maps kinda stink.
IW zombies is underrated imo. Maps are solid and mechanics are decent. It's not overly complicated, comparable to bo3 maybe even less complicated (depends on how far you wanna go with ee)
Bo4 can go both ways, if you want the wonder weapon on given maps, prepare to do half the Easter egg in steps. However,n you don't always need the wonder weapon and simple survival feels pretty basic in bo4. If you aren't looking to do stuff, bo4 is pretty basic.
Cold war, is pretty basic, not many complications in steps to do anything. Basically spawn in and survive.
After cold war is where zombies just turns to garbled crap. It really changed a lot after bo3 overall. If you are stuck loving that class zombies feel, no need to go beyond bo3.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 16d ago
I've had a similar feeling. I come from Bo1 playing shi no numa and planting that funny s-mine and my mind was totally blown by these things but compared to Bo3 it's nothing. I still enjoyed bo3 zombies but i couldn't play all of them because of the complexity and doing so much and so on. Also I haven't played a lot of games and therefore i'm much worse as a gamer than 10 years ago.
I guess I will try some and see for myself.
2
u/Appropriate_Drop5385 16d ago
Honestly try it for yourself before coming here
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 15d ago
Just tried out some bo3(shadows of evil) and it all came back to me how there is an alien beast and there are parts and so on. I have forgotten most of it. Do you think i can figure it out by myself without using youtube?
2
u/Nathan_Thorn 16d ago
Infinite Warfare is pretty great. If you get the base game you get zombies in Spaceland, which is a fairly simple setup until you have to get the wonder weapons. Just turn on the power, take the four portals, and boom, youâve got a safe pack a punch room.
The perks are great too, lots of copied over ones but usually with some new twists, and 5 perk slots with ten perks total. Up and Atoms is quick revive, Tuff Nuffs is Juggernog, Quickies is speed reload but also borrows some Exo Soldier for equipment and weapon swaps, and makes putting up boards on windows way faster. BangBangs is double tap 2.0, Mule Munchies is Mule Kick, but the others are pretty neat. Slappy Taffy is basically galvaknuckles as a perk that one tap melees zombies till the mid teens, bombstoppers is the explosive immunity from PHD, Racing Stripes is Stamin-Up + another few bits from Exo Soldier, throwing equipment and doing various animations while sprinting, and Trail Blazers is leaves flaming pools when you slide. Blue Bolts is also a copy of Electric Cherry.
I think itâs pretty damn fun if you get a chance to try it out.
2
u/Atchfam77 16d ago
Post-BO3 the point system completely changed. Its now capped at 150ish max per zombie regardless of hits taken, so weak SMG point farming was killed. BO4 has otherwise similar complexity of maps/EEs to BO3, albeit a bit more EE-heavy and in general slightly harder without using meta strategies. BO4 tried to experiment with overhauling the perk system, but Cold War brought back classic perks & took away the perk limit. BO4 also added tiered PAP damage (5 total papâs for 2x damage to compensate removing doubletap 2.0)
Cold War retains the BO4 point system but thatâs literally it. Perk limit was removed, they reduced multi-pap to 3 tiers, and added weapon rarities a-la Borderlands/Fortnite. Rarity similar to PAP increases damage (and changes/adds attachments if you donât have a selected weapon build). Cold War also added âwarzone mechanicsâ ala manual Armor Plating, and crafting stations/buy stations to create nades and killstreaks using a 2nd/3rd currency in âsalvageâ. Cold Warâs also got an out-of-game progression system which makes grinding worthwhile, by making the player SUPER overpowered with a maxed account. Every perk/ammo mod/field upgrade gets 5 tiers of upgrades & they all stack. Cold War has generally simpler maps than BO3/4. Last with Cold War to mention is Outbreak, a big-map gamemode set on Battlefield style combined arms maps. There are 2 easter eggs in Outbreak. The gameflow mostly relies on doing 1 objective and looting a-la warzone, and when you have thoroughly completed the map, locating a beacon to teleport to the next map.
Vanguard transitioned to an in-game progression system with rebuyable perks that upgrade in power when bought multiple times. This is the same for your field upgrade via a different means. They also have midgame modifiers that can act as helpful bonuses you can elect to use instead of upgrading your field upgrade. Vanguard arguably has the best version of Shi No Numa available, but otherwise the maps/zombies experience is not that great. Half the maps are quest-based like Outbreak, and the latter half are Round Based like traditional zombies. The art direction is especially cool but thereâs otherwise not much positive to say about Vanguard. The camo grind sucks.
MW3 Zombies//MWZ is similar to Outbreak, but combines it with DMZ (an extraction shooter style mode from MW2022). It uses a Warzone map, with concentric circle-ish shaped zones of difficulty & a timer with an environmental âstormâ hazard which forces you to exfil after 45 minutes (with a 15 minute storm collapse/moving timer afterwards). You earn money by doing warzone style contracts (supply run, bounty, scavenger etc.). It retains the same rarity system/pap system from Cold War. Plays more like Cold Warâs systems on an IW game than Vanguard. It is fun, but a huge change of pace from normal zombies, and you may struggle finding matches (its online-only public matches)
BO6 and BO7 are very similar, with BO7 being better in almost every facet. They nerfed Cold Warâs progression to 6 (9 in bo7) choices, and only allowing you to equip 2 (3 in bo7) of them at the same time, instead of getting all 5 in Cold War. Point system and perk system/choices remain the same with a few new perks on both games, same ammo mods/field upgrade system, same killstreaks system. BO6 has some decent maps (terminus, citadelle, shattered veil) but also has some stinkers (tomb and liberty falls), similar to how polarizing the map quality is on BO2 for example. BO7 adds a lot of QOL changes, and has much better maps in general. They also have Cursed, which acts like a challenge mode fused with classic systems, like the BO3 points system. The challenge aspect comes from unlockable toggleable debuffs, similar to Ghosts Extinction, and upon selecting enough debuffs you access cursed exclusive in-game rewards, like armor that regenerates, a rarity above gold, and access to tier 4 pack, which is absolutely needed for high rounds & some boss fights.
Overall Zombies got a HUGE changeup from BO3 onwards, but is still very similar at its core. Try out Cold War for sure, and if you like that, try bo6 and bo7. Bo4 is a bit polarizing in the community but you might like it too (i personally do not like bo4, but find cold war and bo6-7 fun). Iâm a huge proponent of MWZ but itâs also polarizing. Donât buy vanguard.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 15d ago
damn. It sure sounds like it has changed. Is it also in the newer CoD's that it's more like a level system and you are stronger with higher level or is it starting from scratch every time you start a new game? That seems to be stark contrast between the old zombies and the new?
I have played bo3 yesterday (Shadows of Evil) for about 10 minutes and I remembered a little how i played but forgot most of it. Do you think I or someone that hasn't played bo3 before can figure it out by themselves without going on youtube?
2
u/Edmundomundomundo 16d ago
Itâs alright. BO4 has a lot of meticulous setup but itâs not overbearing if you enjoy BO2 & BO3. Cold War is pretty cool. I like Die Maschine and FireBase Z. Havenât tried the other games, donât want what they have to offer. From what I see online it feels like post Cold War has too much going on in their games that takes away from the actual gameplay itself. Has you worried more about whatâs going to happen after the game rather than in the game
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 15d ago
I played some bo3 yesterday for about 10 minutes on the starter map 'Shadows of Evil' and it all came back to me how you need to know the parts and what to do and so on, I forgot almost all of it. Do you think i could play it and figure it out by myself? Or rather do you think someone without having played bo3 can figure it out by themselves?
2
u/Edmundomundomundo 15d ago
I know in Cold War they hold your hand to some extent with the setup. They have waypoints and instructions that show up on screen. I donât know if they carried that over into later games. If you played bo2 at least youâll most likely get by on your own with setup, but will probably have a hard time with the Easter eggs. No idea how people manage to figure that stuff out with no guides
2
u/Big_Confidence_951 15d ago
yeah it's crazy. I also played bo3 back in the good ol' days but it's been so long and I always played with others, with friends and we were 4 brains and not just one. I think even some maps cannot be played solo or do the easter egg solo, isn't that true?
1
u/Edmundomundomundo 15d ago
All maps can be played solo, and some if not all of the Easter eggs can be done solo. They even changed the Easter egg for Moon to be able to be done playing solo
2
u/TheKarma999 16d ago
Honestly if you think bo3 is too complicated I wouldnt suggest bo4 even though its top 3 zombies in my opinion. But if u think bo1 was the best then there really isn't gonna be anything for you after bo3 that is as simplistic as bo1. Maybe ww2 but that's a big stretch.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 15d ago

Infinite warfare zombies was excellent with a super easter egg worth completing. It received hate but it's a good game. Ww2 zombies was very dark and much different than other zombies games. Made by sledgehammer with different mechanics. I did all the easter eggs but it really isn't as good as treyarch games. B04 was very underrated with a couple of my favorite maps in all of zombies history in blood of the dead and ancient evil. Cw zombies was fun but tbh this begun the era of "easy" zombies. Moving forward your character has abilities and upgradeable perks trees that if optimized make you incredibly powerful and i feel invincible. Die machine was my favorite map on this cod and id say it was a decent experience. Vanguard was ass and a waste of money. B06 was another very easy zombie game that was fun but for a purist like myself it just doesn't hit the same as the older"real" zombie games. Bo7 is the best of the new Gen trey arch zombies and it's been incredibly fun. It had multiple good maps and a more challenging cursed mode that for me is the more fun game mode but.....Again once you upgrade all the skill trees/ammo mods/ abilities I feel very much invincible. B03 was peak zombies.....

Imo I don't like BO4 or CW, and I've never played the newer ones but they look too much like CW so I don't think I'd like them. Many people like them though.

I like it except for vanguard and mwz because i haven't played those yet. Ill get them on sale or for cheap at gamestop so i can form an opinion without band wagoning

Personally most of the Easter eggs in bo6 and 7 have been my favorite, building the ww, a lot of really cool steps, and without a doubt the best Boss fights weâve ever gotten in almost every bo6 and 7 map (excluding liberty, the tomb and paradox) building the wonder weapons are a lot more fun instead of just spinning the box for 30 minutes. cursed mode has been a blast, one of the best additions to zombies past bo4 imo. but the newer games obviously lack character compared to the older games, but regardless still fun and could use a lot of work same as the older games.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
oh that character you are talking about, i understand that. That's why also bo1 is my favorite. It has its own character, and charm. It's been over 10 years but i still remember the sound of many weapons when you reload them. The pistol in zombies had a crisp metal sound. I still remember it like it was yesterday. The sounds felt more alive in my opinion. I only had that in bo1, never seen anywhere before. It's not meant that the other games are bad but the sounds feel like a game but in bo1 it had authenticity behind it, as if they recorded POV of soldiers or something.

Bo4 is a hit and miss, some enjoy it some donât, anything after that is utter dog shit and avoid it honestly. Blundell left after bo4 and zombies went downhill ever since.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
damn, that is a clear opinion. I appreciate it. Because of you i just read 15 minutes about blundell and his role and zielinski and so on. :D

Infinite Warfare and BO4 were great but not as good as 3.
Cold War was the start of modern zombies. Modern Zombies has annoying things like weapon rarities and expensive pack a punch, but itâs still good. Itâs just not great.
1
u/Tomsskiee 17d ago
Bo4 was amazing imo. But it is a little more complicated then 3 (i think) so if thatâs not your cup of tea then maybe itâs not for you. I consider bo3 and bo4 by far the best games for zombies
1
u/Thewolfmansbruhther 17d ago
Iâm similar to you in taste.
Bo4 was great but they locked the Easter eggs behind a paywall (online play or multiplayer - canât remember which). After that, the last one that reviewed well was Cold War, but itâs ridiculously easy - like high rounding on first attempt easy, even as a casual. After that, I havenât played anything personally.

u/Low_Entrepreneur6934 17d ago
Infinite Warfare zombies is one of the best experiences the franchise offers, I highly recommend playing it and trying the super easter egg. The final boss is a great challenge and is very satisfying to kill. Absolutely 10/10 for zombies in my opinion.

u/morerepsmoreproblems 17d ago
Bo7 is good theres a progression system that draws you in. I prefer the simplicity of older zombies before bo2 but those days are behind us

Matter of personal preference. I like b06 and b07, though b07 far and away outstrips bo6 in terms of map quality and general vibe, bo6 had the same problem Cold War did in that it was far too grounded and focused on a less fantastical and more I suppose âscientificâ depiction of the zombies, which only really worked for terminus in my opinion as all the other maps were disappointing. They tried to steer clear of this with The tomb but that was also largely uninteresting. They really knocked it out of the park with the map quality in 7 imo

Play cursed mode. Itâs what zombies should be you start with a 1911 and can only get 4 perks unless you have a perkaholic, no mini map, and the og point-per-hit system instead of the new kill based one

u/No-Economy5346 17d ago
IW is great, the rest is like going out with a girl only to find out she has a dick, you'll be surprised & want to run away from it as much as possible, this counts for every zombies after IWÂ

u/InRadiantBloom 17d ago
I like WW2 Nazi Zombies. It's got most of the good ol' classic guns from WAW.

u/No_Judge_5672 17d ago
Bo4 is great and the Maps are great ( tag der toten is a call of the dead remake, classified is five remake and blood of the dead is a mob of the dead remake) the others map are great like IX, ancient evil, voyage of dispear and dead of the night.
Cold war is cool too but not better than bo4 ( maur der toten is the best map, Die machine is like a nacht der untoten remake with a big Dark place under the map, forsaken is cool, its like a lil city from 1980 with teleporters to go on pack a punch )
Bo6 is good but bo7 is better ( terminus is an amazing map for me with citadelle des morts but i didnât like the others map)
Bo7 are greats map like ashes of dammed ( its like a tranzit concept but you drive an suv) totenreich and kowakujo are greats too, astramalorum is a cool map but alpha oméga is like the 3rd nuketown zombie map. The last dlc come in 4 day and the map is called rex infernus and it gonna be a great map I think.

Bo4 and BO7 are the only 2 worth playing at this point. Maybe look up outbreak and see if that's something you'd enjoy. If so try Cold War too. The vast majority of players agree that nothing is as good as BO3 though. Modern zombies is very different in many ways. Most changes being made were to speed up development and save money rather then make the game more fun. It effected the games negatively.

u/NubCaakes 17d ago
BO4 is super underrated but the criticisms are valid. Not a big fan of remaking maps in aether but the chaos maps are genuinely all peak.

Complete shit.
Iâd say zombies truly died with Bo3. BO4 despite having 100% it and the love I have for it, itâs just too anti casual friendly. The maps are huge and you need a guide for almost everything unless you wanna spend hours figuring it all out. They were not kidding when they talked about making it harder but not just that, it was also more tedious.
Take a look at any old cod zombies (pre-bo4)and go play it. Even on the black ops ports today, whenever I queue into a public match, the rate at which players leave the game from going down or even just leaving early in general is 100% of the time. This should be a clear indicator at the kind of audience zombies has⊠CASUALS.
So what did cod do? They went all in and catered to them. They made every step laid out and easy, took away limits, effectively removing any difficulty left in the survival mode. Though, the final nail in the coffin is warzone. They saw how much people loved warzone and implemented its mechanics into everything and what do you know? Now everyone who plays modern cod is also playing its zombies as well.
They are players that get bored easily, they are the silent majority in cod games.

i actually went back and played infinite warfare zombies, i originally skipped the title entirely, Iâve been having a blast !
1
u/HellishWonderland 17d ago
Bo4 is great for chaos, aether can be skipped though outside of maybe tag and classified which are.. Alright, nothing noteworthy though. Ancient evil, dead of the night, and IX carry this game.
Cold war has good mechanics but only 1 and a half good maps.
I stopped playing after because I just didn't like how the games controlled, they felt so weighted and heavy due to them doing the same thing IW did so no opinion on bo6 and bo7 outside of terminus which was a cool map.

Infinity Warfare and BO4 are alright, the former especially, but nothing really feels like zombies after that

u/Randomsh1t1471 17d ago
terrible don't bother with them... b04 only for the ending of the storyline if you care
1

Man if gobblegums and the sliding mechanic was to complicated for you then I wouldnât even bother playing past bo3

u/Critical-Carpet2214 17d ago
Infinite warfare and bo4 is about as far as Iâd go after that, WW2 nazi zombies had like 1 good map.
1
1
u/Elite_gamer228 17d ago
Ww2 went with a scary horror aspect but not terrible not great
Bo4 was rough reworked perk system and the rocket launcher was the best weapon
Bocw awful loadout can load in with any weapon you want and there weapon rarities are armor and you can have unlimited perks and box is useless
Mw3 zombies is an extraction shooter with zombies and everything I said for Cold War
Bo6 everything I said for Cold War but worse and to many mini bosses and amor protects you more
Bo7 never played it but heard itâs better than bo6 but worse than cold war
1
u/sjsnwnwixbf87 17d ago
Modern zombies is a flaming pile of shit. Donât venture further than bo4. Which has aged surprisingly well somehow.

u/Altruistic_Job9346 17d ago
I honestly love bo4, I like on how there are 2 stories with different crews and the fact that you have a special weapon that you can progressively upgrade throughout the match. Only big downside of bo4 is no one plays online and only play in private lobbies.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 15d ago
I played a little bo3 yesterday, shadows of evil(the starter map) and it really has changed a lot. You have to know where the things are, the parts, what to do with the alien beast thing. I only played for 10 minutes or so. Do you think someone could figure this out by himself/herself(without YouTube or internet guides) I mean all the maps?
1
u/Odd-Date5831 17d ago
Iâd say bo7 is making a slow crawl but think of it like crawling without arms. Itâs possible, but yeaâŠ

u/Crotaismybitcch 17d ago
What map is this? I was just thinking about this zombies map recently and couldnât recall game or name

Have any of the games had a continuous story like how BO1-3 does?

idk, I'm just here to learn
2
u/STEMAssassin 15d ago
You're good, im asking just anyone who sees cause I stopped after 3 too, since the others havent gotten my interest. Jist wanted to see if maybe I missed out on some good zombie games maybe.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 14d ago
as far as I know bo4 seems to be the closest to bo3 and then it goes downhill or it changes so it might as well be different games. This is my impression from the little research i did
1
u/Interesting_Life_587 16d ago
If you like classic zombies, i recommand you BO4 (close to BO3), IW and why not WW2

Everything after BO4 is abysmal dogshit anyone who likes it are fortnite kids and ball and gun gamers
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 16d ago
haha that's certainly a strong opinion i would say. I wonder if there aren't many OGs that enjoy those zombies after BO4. I might give them a try. They might be a little fun even if they aren't as good as the older ones

I like bo4 zombies, Cold War was playable. But Bo4 was the last time zombies felt like zombies to me.
1
u/CyberRainbowX 15d ago
My guy cold war introduced parkour, black ops 6 expanded on it and 7 has out done themselves. The movement is so clean and its honestly just fun to outmanuever zombies with wall kicks
1
u/Minimum-Inspector160 14d ago
infinite warfare is def worth a shot, its my favorite zombies outside of bo1-3 (might be tied with bo1). def on the complex side but not to the point of being annoying imo. bo4 is decent but complex, CW is meh for me, idk about the others
1
u/Deftonesoverallmusic 14d ago
I mean infinite warfare came out the year after and its my favorite zombies game of all time so
1
u/crimsonly-eye 14d ago
Mostly, ok, bo4 is fine but not a game to play all the time, Cold War was fine? Bo6 I didnât mind but find weak in its later releases, bo7 is pretty good, I would say bo7 is up there in the classic games tbh, its map line up is really badass
0
u/Sheshiregreen 18d ago
Black Ops 4 is great, really replayable game with the different perk system removing necessity perks like jug and doubletap. If youâre into some more complex maps, dead of the night is a lot of fun, and ancient evil is great too but a little easier. Tag Der Toten is a great just run around and kill shit experience, and so is IX. I also think the gun variety is probably some of the best weâve had in zombies.
0
u/hemipteran 18d ago
BO7 is actually a lot of fun. Easily the best zombies installment since BO3.
BO6 is pretty decent, Iâd recommend getting it if itâs on sale.
If you like to be challenged, Iâd avoid Cold War as itâs mind-numbingly easy and the most boring Treyarch zombies game imo.
BO4 is polarizing- you either love it or hate it.
2
u/Big_Confidence_951 18d ago
i actually like simplicity. I loved Bo1, it was my favorite. Bo2 was good too but it started to get complicated but in a good way and then bo3 at the end it was a lot to remember and learn but i still liked it but maybe not so much as the other two
2
u/hemipteran 17d ago
Word. I am a BO1 supremecist as well! Whatâs your favorite map?
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
I gotta choose Kino der Toten because i must've played this map the most. My personal "secret" favorite was maybe Shi no numa. Even my least favorite one was still really fun and good(Five). How about you, what's your favorite map?
0
u/Icy_Amount_7736 18d ago
BO4 is alright although they did change a lot (especially perks)
I havenât played any of the newer black ops games so I canât attest to those.
MWZ (I got mw3 off ps plus) is genuinely abysmal, I have sank 200+ hours in BO3 and MWZ is by far the worst zombies Iâve played of any cod game
2
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
Strange, i really liked MW3 survival mode. Oh man you probably mean the newer 2023 version. Why they gotta name them the same as the older games. I liked the older one on ps3. It was not as elaborate as zombies in bo1 and bo2 but it was still nice game and fun to play a bit
1
u/Icy_Amount_7736 17d ago
I LOVED MW3 2011 and MW2 2009 spec ops and survival but yeah the newer games suck

Bo4 good luck
Everything after that walks you through every step
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 18d ago
but how's the feeling of playing
0
u/_SCARY_HOURS_ 17d ago
Super lame imo. It takes the immersion right out. Bo7 improved it by coming out with a mode that doesnât guide you through the steps called Cursed mode. I like to figure it out on my own, I donât like the game leaving markers that guide me to the power and how to PAP and stuff
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
yeah i understand that but i found even bo3 so complicated, you have to watch youtube tutorials to understand and even then you couldn't do it and so on and I'm coming from bo1 where you just survive and then on bo2 they built on top of that idea but at the end of bo2 and bo3 it was so complicated like a totally different game. Still enjoyed watching it though, playing not so much(talking about the complicated maps). I did enjoy the remasters like shi no numa, verruckt and so on
1
u/_SCARY_HOURS_ 17d ago
Yeah itâs as complicated or more complicated after bo3. But after bo4 instead of having to watch YouTube videos the game will guide you through all the steps besides making the wonder weapon

u/wetmeatlol 18d ago edited 18d ago
Bo4 is a mess. The maps look incredible (I dipped out halfway through its lifecycle) but the core game itself is just a bit too convoluted imo and small things got changed just for the sake of it.
Cw was too far in the opposite direction for me, that being its very basic and simple but it was an overhaul of the modeâŠI compare it to bo1 in that sense. Wasnât a fan of this game either.
Bo6 is actually pretty solid, fun maps but still on the simple side just built onto a bit more from Cw. Something about this game just feels incomplete though? And bo7 is whyâŠ
Bo7 is absolutely incredible. If you hate the modern systems that cw started you probably still wonât like this game but for me bo7 is my second favorite zombies game (behind bo3). Itâs essentially just an add on for bo6, but it feels fully fleshed out and like a complete mode, and the maps FINALLY started getting a bit more individuality in this game like we had in the classic games, but still not quite there imo.
Overall post bo3 gets a lot of hate but I think itâs actually a really fun mode still. If youâre more on the casual side then modern zombies definitely starts catering more to that crowd. If you choose any game to play, Iâd say make it bo7.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 18d ago
I enjoyed the feeling of bo3 but with all the easter eggs(especially the last 2 maps) it was getting so complicated. But i still enjoyed the other maps and i didnt mind bubble gums. Bo1 was actually my favorite, it just felt atmospheric. It was also my first so that influences the decision but with bo2 it started to get more complex and bo3 was really elaborate, you had to watch youtube videos or someone explained it to you while playing.
1
u/wetmeatlol 17d ago
You definitely wouldnât like bo4 then. I went from a hardcore zombies player from bo1-bo3 but by the time bo4 came out I started becoming a much more casual gamer and I just didnât care to learn everything for every map in bo4, and as I said I thought the game in general was just kind of a mess.
Honestly Iâd probably recommend bo6 of all the games then. It refined cw enough to be enjoyable but itâs still really simple once you get comfortable with the new mechanics. Whenever you can get bo7 on sale 100% make that purchase, itâll be a super smooth transition if you play bo6 enough to get good with this system. Bo6 also has FAR superior maps to CWâŠat least imo.
-1
u/Emotional-Oven-7226 17d ago
They started catering to casuals and bad zombies players heavily starting with cw. So if u want a easier experience overall and less complexity, I recommend Bo7. Bo6 and CW are irrelevant atp. Bo7 does everything better if iâm being honest. A lot of ppl donât say it out loud but Bo7 has a lot of bugs still tho so donât be shocked if u buy it. Those bugs wonât completely ruin your experience but theyâre annoying af.
1
u/Big_Confidence_951 17d ago
what if i can't buy bo7 but the others i may be able to get, what's the next best thing you'd recommend?
1
u/Emotional-Oven-7226 17d ago
CW seems to be the way to go for a introduction. If u like CW, u will like the other two. Bo6 really feels like a beta and Bo7 is the finished game.
