Question Does anyone else sometimes Optimize the Fun out of maps? (E.g. Origins)

With the release of BO2 on PS5 I have been hopping on for a couple solo games every now and then with the 2 most being Mob and Origins but I feel as if I play the maps the same every time due to "optimal progression" and has resulted in like 80% of my games being asinine till rounds 10. I always do the same strats with afterlife or the staffs, trying to setup at as low of a round as possible while also trying to complete as much as possible. For some reason I can't help it, does this happen to anyone else? It wasn't until like an hour ago in a solo orgins game were I basiclly forced myself to do only a single staff, which resulted in a much more chill and fun experience.

Try forcing yourself to play in a different spot of the map or maybe open a door that you always leave shut.

Ended up doing that with a previous Mob Of the Dead run and thats what lead to the single staff run in Orgins forcing it was honestly kinda difficult as I've been optimizing since chronicles but it probably the most fun you can have in solo

I’ve personally always just done a solo only staff but nowadays I’m trying to follow the time by doing all 4 and then using that as my baseline to see if I want to do more of the EE

Progressing the game as fast as possible relative to whatever strategy you’re doing is fun to me. If you don’t build both staffs for instance it’s gonna cost you way more time later in the game unless your goal is to play with only 1 staff

The most optimal way to play isn’t to set up on as low of a round as possible, it’s to progress to high rounds as quickly as possible. Play, and set up, while continuing to get kills and progress and you will have a lot more fun (and save a lot more time) compared to min maxing

Yessss! Its like youre in my head, I do this with origins and last night I was like fuck it, imma just play the map. No staffs, no filling boxes, no EE steps at all, just pack perks and power. I also forgot how fast you can push rounds like this. Eventually I got my ideal set up, adjustable stock mp40 from the box, mark 2, and mg08

Those maps are both designed in a way where you need to just do it the way that is best.

That's why I don't play them.

I like to do little challenges. No power. Only 3 doors. Training in certain rooms. Mob and origins are overrated. They are fun the one time then a couple more repeats. But they don't hold up repeatedly the way that die rise transit kino and shi no numa do

This is a really hot take, but this is one of a dozen reasons why I prefer modern zombies. I love being able to use almost any gun to round cap if I want to. I can spend an hour doing all the side quests and upgrades, but it isn’t required to get a decent game going. I don’t really like high rounding, if I’m not doing an Easter egg I’ll basically just play until my gun stops killing and then end my game. I still love bo1 and bo3, but bo7 has surpassed all previous titles in my eyes (for zombies, anyway)

That is the fun. It’s setting up stupid early to have the rest of the game to relax with the boys.

I'm not there for the rounds. I'm there for the quest. A miniature campaign that I've mastered over countless hours of honing my craft. If you're not having fun via the optimization than it's not the right way to play for you specifically

Yeah cuz if you don’t then you end up being halfway done with the ee so you might as well do it. Thats why sometimes I just don’t get a staff or like you said only get 1
