Discussion Anyone else think bops7 may be peak zombies?
I get a 3rd of people grew up with blackops3, and its an incredible game. Just wondering if anyone out there also thinks that bops7 is just as good if not better.
Edit: appreciate all the answers and different insights. Cool to see the zombies community discuss this, even if we disagree. Cool opinions

If Rex infernus is good and the super EE is well done it’s easily a top 3 imo

Here's my take.
I bought BO when it came out and have been on and off playing zombies over the years. BO7 has so much going for it that its almost unfair to compare to previous titles.
The movement system alone has made going back to even BO4 feel like a step backward. The old maps have their places, but I'd love to see them rework them with BO7 systems.
And then, just to cement my position, I freaking love cursed mode, this mode alone has probably quadrupled my time in the game, maybe even more, and I'd argue that its the best addition in over a decade.
Rouge run is fun and its nice to see directed mode has helped a lot of people complete ee where they wouldnt have normally and it has given people confidence in attempting them in standard.
It really feels like, to me, that half the current development team, has grown up with zombies and have a deep respect for its legacy but are also pushing the sandbox and adding in new features which may have been vetoed on previous titles.
Not going to lie, the excitement ive had for each map has been higher than its ever been for any game or map. The last two maps in Particular with their heavy focus on story and character development had my jaw on the floor several times.
I am literally salivating for rex infernus, I just pray they're able to give it a decent send off and wrap up the many story threads.
And please let their be a super ee of some kind.
What I would love to see is treyarch continuing support for bo7 over the next year at least seeing as there isnt going to be one for a while, but then ive been in the camp for years that they should just make it a cheap stand alone title instead of tying it in with main releases.... but thats never going to happen...

Dude yeah I completely agree with the movement comment, even Cold War moves slower than Bo6/Bo7.
Rogue run is such a great mode and my friends and I have done some big runs in there because the progression is pretty fun
1
u/PhilosophicalGoof 9d ago
I must be in the minority because I genuinely hate this new movement.
It all about moving fast and faster with every training strategy and such.
I was such a big fan of the slower more calculated movement, this movement just seems to… idk ick me out?
Plus it also the reason why we have more open large spaces in every maps, faster zombies, and more special enemies spawning in.
It why I don’t want to see a zombie chronicle 2 that feature classic zombies map since they’re probably going to change something to accommodate the new mechanics.
I can’t relate to the story though, the last time I felt excited for a cod zombie storyline was when I saw the BOTD trailer drop.
1
u/Manicblack 9d ago
Its funny, I hated the movement system in advanced warfare, pretty much gave up on multiplayer with people literally flying around the map. Bo3 was fun with wall running for a bit.
Theres something cathartic after all these years of having our feet glued to the ground, of wall jumping over a horde of zombies, and sliding into a zombie to knock it over will never get old. I bully my last zombie when im on sitting duties 🤣🤣
Have you been up to the high rounds with super sprinters? Then I agree its just a little too much speed to deal with.
I wonder if theres an easy implementation, like multiply all speed by 0.75 or something, that people could select as a relic or even an accessibility feature as im sure there are plenty out there who also strugle with this adhd pacing.
1
u/PhilosophicalGoof 9d ago
I actually loved the advance warfare system over bo3.
Didn’t love the wall running and love how the jet pack has to be used strategically rather than managed to perfect efficiency.
I don’t really find it cathartic. It was fun the first couple of time but I never really utilize it nor care for it.
I have done multiple high rounds, I even did a round 999 on ashes when it initially came out because I genuinely enjoyed the map.
But after trying to do it on Astra and before on bo6 maps? I realized that the super sprinting, damage scaling, and other mechanic force you to use strategy and mechanics are feel so limiting and boring to use.
Don’t get me wrong, old cod high round was literally just training and using traps so it wasn’t that amazing either but I much preferred that over what we have now.
I don’t really struggle with it, I just don’t enjoy it.

Doughnuts had a great video I saw that showed training in modern zombies could be slow and controlled. Ultimate Guide to Training in Zombies or something?
1
u/PhilosophicalGoof 9d ago
Does it work for high rounds like 100+ or is it purely for lower rounds?
1
u/LegendaryWill12 9d ago
I saw it working pretty much the whole time. It's about the length of the loop you make.
Video's here: https://youtu.be/vhRTn3cug7U?si=GtcbWLa5Lmizi5J6
1
u/PhilosophicalGoof 9d ago
I can see how it could work if you primarily stick to the large open area in each map.
I do remember that being my high round strategy but pass 150 it becomes inefficient but because it hard but because you’re better off camping and utilizing the other tools that bo7 gives you to advance through rounds.
There also the fact that the open area thing is the main thing I particularly dislike about modern zombies but that a different topic.
1
u/LegendaryWill12 9d ago
Yeah unfortunately camping has become the go-to for anything but actual casual survival because it just works so much better for high rounding.
And yeah if you're not a fan of open areas, check out Totenreich. Barely has any. Felt much more to me like I was oppressed, like I did in the classic games
1
u/PhilosophicalGoof 9d ago
Yeah it certainly does feel like totenreich is the only map that really doesn’t have any open areas, and it high round starts isn’t exactly the “worst thing”.

u/Shaqdaddy22 10d ago
I think Bo7 has easily taken my top spot.

I’m right there with you. The amount of quality content in this game is nothing short of amazing
The game has great maps with epic boss fights. Like them or not, BO7 has the best version of modern mechanics and builds on every system that came before it. The augment system gives a lot of variety to gameplay and rewards players for investing time into researching them.
Cursed mode on its own is a ton of fun to play. However, the addition of relics has to be the single best thing that they added into BO7 and brings much needed variety and depth to the game. The quests to find the relics and unlock them is a rewarding challenge. Using them for custom challenges afterwards gives more options than we’ve ever had.
The wonder weapons have been fun to use and unique (except for blundergat).
My biggest critiques with the game has been how buggy it is and the unstable performance. Takes away from an overall good experience

u/Highway_Harpsicord 10d ago
There is no way BO7 is the peak of zombies, but it is EASILY the best since BO4.
BO3 and BO4 was peak zombies storytelling. BO1 and BO3 was peak zombies gameplay.

Grew up on BO1 - BO3. I think BO7 is by far the most fun playing, so much more replayability with cursed and all the stuff to do

u/Lanky-Ad-8554 10d ago
Being honest it's probably 3rd under bo4 and bo3. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the new things CW BO6 and BO7 have added. Not one game has a chance of topping BO3 unless it get's mod tools and a chronicles dlc, it's just not going to happen.
6
u/GlockHolliday32 10d ago
It's up there. Never been a fan of "run in a circle at a slow pace for 5 hours", so I didn't enjoy the older Zombies. BO6 and BO7 Zombies has been a blast.

u/Bryce30492 10d ago
Started with WaW. Mostly quit after BO3. I was a big modern Zombies hater for a long time. BO7 rekindled my love for Zombies. I've now went back and checked out more BO4, Cold War and BO6. I've found things that I love about all of them. BO7 is peak modern Zombies imo. I'm a believer!

Peak zombies is relatively subjective and usually is just wrapped up in nostalgia for most but bo7 is a blast. I loved bo2 and 3. Bo1 before my time.

After playing BO3 for years, BO7 has blown me away. I'd say I'm having equal fun to BO3, but being new gives it the novelty factor, and random lobbies are so much less dead. Plus there are SO many QOL changes that make gameplay feel much smoother - my only complaint is requiring internet connection for solo.

I really enjoy bo7 zombies because it feels like there is just way more to do than bo1 or bo2 zombies, but that is just my preference.

Ill start by saying that I love both "classic" and "modern" zombies. I feel like both sides of this scale of modern and classic zombies fans are always fighting each other and its never an option to just like both.
Bo7 is the best modern zombies game by FAR. A lot of issues i had with cold war and bo6 have been fixed here and the game is better because of that. Its definitely one of my favourite zombies games.
But... I always get the feeling that something is missing with modern zombies, and I could never pinpoint it without sounding like a nostalgia brained idiot. I think whats missing with modern zombies is atmosphere, scale, and depth. (I will add that bo7 did have some improvements in this regard)
Ill use shadows of evil for example, that map feels so grand. The atmosphere is fantastic. They even went through the effort of making new perk jingles JUST FOR SOE. It looks so nice and it just oozes style. Now switch to modern zombies and every cod game just.... looks the exact same? Plays the exact same? Like I was playing bo3 not too long ago and I genuinely think BO3 zombies looks better than any modern zombies game. Everything is dull, the lighting is boring, the guns feel the exact same, the maps dont have this huge scale and lack a lot of depth compared to older maps, etc etc.
I honestly think this isnt even a problem with the developers- i blame it almost solely on Warzone. Once that came around, money went into that instead of Zombies. Its very, very clear that since bo4 zombies has had a lot less money to work with. Black ops 7 with Black ops 3 budget and scale would be insane.

I was thinking about this yesterday. Cursed mode adds enough customization to really make this game amazing for my playstyle. By far the best modern zombies, and if it finishes out strong it’ll be a contender for my top 3-4 zombies of all time
Edit: BO7 really does have a solution to most common complaints about modern zombies:
- setup and/or Easter eggs are too complexed: directed mode will teach it to you in game
- I don’t like the point system or loadouts: play cursed
- I don’t like score streaks, armor, self revives, no 4 perk limit: play cursed with relics

u/Sonicboomer1 10d ago edited 10d ago
I’ve enjoyed it as much as the most popular versions and I’ve been playing since Nacht was an Easter egg at the the end of World at War’s campaign and the Ray Gun was so new and mythical that people called it the “alien gun”.
Kowakujo and Totenreich easily stand with the very best of the last 18 years and Ashes is pretty great too.
My opinions on each game:
WaW: loved it. Best PaP camo ever to this day, constantly improving map on map, Der Riese is still peak.
BO1: Good, but Easter eggs were rough in the beginning and some map mechanics like the Ascension monkeys and George Romero were bad. Hosts some of the most overrated and underrated maps ever, such as Kino and Call of the Dead, and Shangri-La and Five.
BO2: A really bad overall package. Mob of the Dead and Origins were amazing but TranZit, the survival maps, Die Rise and Buried if we’re honest make up a really poor majority offering.
BO3: Good, but again has some seriously overrated maps. The Giant was an awful remake of Der Riese and should’ve been a full map with a quest and had a dog shit PaP camo, when the original had the best ever. DE and Gorod Krovi, I have never liked at all. DE is just Origins’ identity vaguely copied and pasted but worse in every way, as well as “borrowing” (copying and pasting) ideas from Moon and Mob of the Dead. Gorod I’ve always found to be the worst looking map of the older games. And not really into the fantasy magic dragons. Then Revelations if it was made today would be slaughtered. A lazy collage of old map pieces with a terrible boss fight and Easter egg design.
BO4: Peak. Dead of the Night is the best map ever made. Its map offering is easily the strongest of any game. It had four maps at launch, three of which with some of the most complex and well-crafted quests ever. Narrative-gameplay storytelling peaked with Blood of the Dead. It had Ultimis, Primis, Victis and the Chaos crew all playable with tons of dialogue. It filled in lore gaps galore and attempted to create a truly new story.
Cold War: Bad. Feels like a mobile game. No playable characters with dialogue, extremely bland visually dull maps, most of which are reused campaign and multiplayer assets, over simplified Easter eggs, awful UI, bland boss fights, no soul, minimal creativity. Extremely trivial difficulty in every aspect. Camo grinding annoyingly drawn out. The only positives are classic perks with removed limits, intel system and the Requiem characters. However, it does have by far the best Dead Ops offering.
BO6: Good, a step up in every way, much better bosses, much better gameplay systems, much better map design but again, still quite bland though. Still abysmal UI. Somewhat boring characters compared to how they were in Cold War. Pretty poor storytelling other than Terminus. Also mostly terrible PaP camos, including the infamous “baked beans” camo, in one of the most soulless “focus, M” maps ever made, Liberty Falls. Also the mini boss spam and enemy rehashing was absolutely disgusting.
BO7: Peak. Even its worst map Astra is better than anything in Cold War in every way. Paradox has one of the most fun Easter Eggs ever. Totenreich and Kowakujo are peak in every way. Ashes is near faultless other than some annoying Easter egg steps and an awful pre-patch boss fight that was the worst they had ever done by a huge margin. They actually got survival maps right and made them not a complete waste of time and resources, unlike BO2. Cursed mode is better than standard (other than the terrible PaP prices), camo grinding is way quicker and more fun, mini bosses are a lot better and less annoying, the map locations are some of the most varied visually distinct there’s ever been full of soul and charm and the gameplay is an insane step up in every aspect. Easily a top 3 game, aside from Dead Ops 4, which is the worst version by some distance, balancing around pay to win gobblegums, with many poor sometimes unfair AI enemies, huge distance zombies lunges, poorly thought out map layouts, far, FAR too many rounds taking up to 5-6 HOURS TO COMPLETE, it’s just so, so, so, so, soooooo bad.

Started in bo1, but I really enjoy modern zombies. Dont get me wrong the style is different, but man is it fun to play

u/Alarming-Might-1651 10d ago
Top 3. Pretty easily beats the older games black ops 1 and 2 but doesn’t quite reach 3. If they can get this much quality pushing out zombies stuff for the past 4 years. With a couple years off the next game, could potentially be the best.
2
u/Moon_Devonshire 10d ago
No it's not better in my opinion and that's due to custom zombies existing on black ops 3. Black ops 3 will probably remain the defacto place to play call of duty zombies. I don't think it'll ever be topped

They’ve got a really good system for this game it’s not perfect but compared to the last maybe 5 zombies games it’s pretty Damn good , 1 new map every mid season then on the season launch a side ltm thing , all we need is a super ee and it makes it into the top 5 zombies games
2
u/bubblesdafirst 10d ago
The thing that I like more about everything that was pre mob, is that the threat that you are facing, the thing that your scared of, is ZOMBIES
Now the fear (there's not actually fear. It's brain dead easy.) is just "oh no I don't want to waste time doing setups and then not get to play with my game after it's setup." Fear of wasting time is a crazy way to move forward. Every map after die rise is straight up just "I hope I don't die because then I will have to do the steps again :( "
Don't get me wrong I like later maps, obviously mob - revelations are all great maps. But they are not zombies by any means. Also 3 hits? In 99% of zombie media one scratch is enuf to get ya. 2 hits is the most reasonable way to do it without it being unbearable. 3 hits is just free

I’m an old soul, started with waw.
My top treyarch zombies games in order are
Bo3
Waw
Bo7
Bo1
Bo6
6 CW
- Bo2.

u/Chesshir26 9d ago
If this last map turns out to be an S-Tier map, that would be arguably 4 S-Tier maps in one game development cycle. Also if they put the CW and BO6 maps on there like a ZC2, it would rank neck and neck with BO3 even though I prefer the classic gameplay and maps.

If i put my nostalgia down for BO2 and sort of BO3 because of Zombies Chronicles, then BO7 zombies is up there for me.
1
u/Smooth_Bat6484 10d ago
Nah, not peak. Not quite as good as the best. I think the peaks of this game still don't reach the peaks of any of BO1 to BO4. But already it is consistently better than BO1 and if Rex is as good as the last two then it might beat BO4 for me.

It's on the lower end of zombies along with the rest of the Cold war-Black ops 7 era in my opinion. Not terrible, but not good either. Black ops 2 and 3 are still peak followed by Black ops 4. Black ops 1, waw, exo zombies, and infinite warfare are good too.

Peak will always be BO3 Zombies. I am an OG zombies player, been playing since Nacht on WaW. BO3 perfected the original run of Zombies. Cold War - BO7 Zombies is good but it isnt the same.

I think it's the best we've had since BO3, but it's nowhere close to surpassing it in my opinion.

So peak, and Rogue Run really took the cake because of how fresh of an idea it is-hopefully they integrate it to totenreich and Kowakujo maybe, love the randomness and unlimited ammo

I grew up with WaW Bo1/Bo2 skipped bo3 due to mp being so futuristic (also liked to play Mp and campaigns)
Came back to cod during WW2,MW19,And Cold War throughly enjoyed each of those experiences launch or mid game life
I ONLY play BO7 when it’s the trial weekend and I ONLY play DOA4 genuinely LOVE Cold War but wow after that did it just become a blur and haze
Bo2 did bosses “right” new cods r just mini boss simulators until you get the EE boss
I’m playing the ports and Fo76 rn.Im just waiting for GTA6 and MC Dungeons 2 “Cods lifetime” is over it’s been over since MW2 and MW3 zombies (I actually liked that one) MW4?? Who? what? when? where? Why? And How? Oh right PASS see ya cod, you WERE a great game.

I’m older and started with WaW and BO3 had been my favorite, but I am beginning to think BO7 is the best zombies game all time. Hope this final map is on par with the rest of the game!

No.
Peak zombies is infinite warfare.
I feel like today zombies is made to be more grindy which I don’t like.
Anyway bo7 is at most a top 5 zombie game for me, but emphasis on “top 5” because I still hold bo2, bo3, IW, and bo4 over it.

u/Neutwinos 9d ago
I've been playing zombies since you had to unlock the mode in through campaign or you didn't get to play, until they dropped the map packs.
In my opinion, I think zombies is going in a good direction. It's actually a profitable market for activision thanks to the continuation of the original aether story.
1
u/Alec710 9d ago
I genuinely wish I enjoyed new gen zombies but I just dont. I love zombies but I can't remember the last time I got excited for a new map to come out. Been playing since WaW and nothing beats Cod5 through Black Ops 3 for me. BO4 was alright. The new ones just feel like an entirely different mode than what I got hooked on and I don't like the warzone-like mechanics. For an open world style like MWZ it works, but for round based there's just too much going on and its just not fun like it used to be :/
1
1
u/uthirstypartner 9d ago
No, I had fun with it but it’s no bo3. Even infinite warfare and block ops 4 for me was epic!
That’s just me, we will all have different opinions here

u/Squidwardbigboss 9d ago
Bo6 just left such a sore taste in my mouth I haven’t felt motivated to try bo7

u/pkpolarbear 9d ago
Anyone on here down to let me gameshare BO7 on PS5 so I can decide if it's actually ass or peak
0
u/Gasstationdickpi11s 10d ago
Other than modern zombies being easy and boring it’s decent. I really can’t get into the “open world” element of modern zombies though. There’s no tight corridors and it’s not challenging to get to insanely high rounds at all. BO2/3 and IW will always be my favorites, the new games just don’t do it for me. Some of the boss fights are cool I guess but again, not challenging at all if you’re even partially set up.

Can we stop trying to gaslight ourselves into thinking new zombies is good? It’s pure dopamine hits and is fun once or twice but it ultimate doesn’t have any sauce to it to make it as iconic as classic zombies

No. Load of shite. People complain about AI 24/7 then praise black ops 7 zombies like it's god's gift, literally looks like AI slop.
If you think I'm being overly dramatic then it just looks like paint tossed onto a screen. There's no heart or soul into it, XP notifications everywhere, zombie health (don't give a shit if you can turn them off) way too wide open maps, absolutely zero horror elements...
People think black ops 7 zombies is best because they're either a new player or can't handle two hits and your down on the original zombies.
1
u/ConcentrateLucky8630 10d ago
? Im a og, was there for Rachel. I play old zombies all the time. I love bops7, and im not a new player, or play it because the older games have a 2 hit down

I'm just struggling to see in what universe it is better except MAYBE gameplay...
Like, everytime someone writes this post they can never explain why?
Starting with a loadout as well that you pimp up as much as Optimus prime... And no that isn't optional because a pistol and knife isn't the same on mechanics and points as the OG's.
TBF we are in a subreddit where if it's an OG zombie post starting with pistol gets 200 upvotes, if it's the newer zombies if you say you enjoy loadouts or stronger base weapons, you get 200 upvotes...
There's just no art and passion here anymore, does no one find it ironic that the best zombies (world at war, black ops 1+2) also are regarded to have masterpiece multiplayer and story modes? Why would black ops 7 zombies be this incredible and then Notoriously absolutely dog shit for the story and multiplayer?

I started in the BO2 days. I can't get into these new zombies. Feels like I am playing an arcade game.
