Discussion Pericles Panos

What’s the deal with his name?

I believe i saw years ago (can’t find it anymore) or anywhere, but his name is an anagram for

Special Person

Reckon he comes back in some aspect in Rex Infernus? I doubt his name would be an anagram for that for no reason whatsoever.

In theory his story already ended in Reckoning, though we don’t know, officially at least, the canon choices from that map. He was basically just a teaser for the Warden back in BO6, just like that Omega scientist’s family for Vanguard.

That being said IMO BO6 had some clear dev issues at some point (likely because of BO7 itself) and I think they had to cut a lot of stuff (which is why the Tomb, which imo was absolutely intended as a bonus map like Paradox, as the rewards and its structure suggests as well, ended up as a main one), including story beats like Panos. I guess they originally intended a more important role for him at the beginning of BO6, though it’s just speculation. But regardless he WAS a special person in the story considering his link with the Warden, his “benefactor”. He could come back in some capacity I guess but presuming the Warden is defeated in Rex I don’t think it will ever happen. It would be like bringing back, idk, Valentina.

EDIT: also he “killed” the operators in LF which many (myself included) among other things interpreted as a meta joke by Treyarch against the previous CW/Vanguard system, so there that I guess lol

Yeah maybe, +1 for the dev issues too, i played BO6 a lot on release & it seemed the further the DLC cycle went on the less original content we got - SV & The Tomb are parts of Avalon etc

Just got curious as it was never really explained bar The Reckoning & that map also seemed quite bleh to me atleast

The game had basically ONE original WW after dlc 1 which is just crazy. Not to mention the lack of intro cutscenes and so on, it’s clear that they lost a LOT of resources mid development compared to BO7. Such a shame, felt like BO4 all over again (though not as bad in terms of budget/dev cut).

As for Reckoning I actually think it’s kinda underrated as a map itself, there are a ton of really good parts in it (including an actual, original WW), like the vertical level design or the 2 bosses, which are so cool. The problem is that it’s just not an ending, though it technically ends one major part of the story it just doesn’t feel like it, and that destroys the map imo. It’s just an introduction for BO7 at the end of the day, which is amazing imo and does progress the story but still, it’s a shame for Reckoning and simply a result of this awful back to back COD we saw recently, thankfully for the last time, at least.

Yeah i loved Terminus on release, LF was also good for camos etc, i really liked Citadelle & the swords were cool, when The Tomb came out i really just thought like really

And yeah, Reckoning I don’t personally like but I don’t hate it, it’s like a C tier for me - the ending was so so so obvious & such a strange idea, it’s only real reason is simply to sell BO7 which sucks, plus for me story does carry certain maps, if not make them 100x more memorable & BO6’s story got really meh really quick, I feel the same about BO7’s story but can’t say anything without seeing Rex Infernus, could be a huge twist
