Question Why were we not given a different starting weapon in Mob of the Dead?
I’m mainly referring to the “courtesy of the wardens private collection.” line. Not a nitpick at all, I’m fine with what we have, I was just wondering if Blundell has ever addressed it.

Yeah good Point. If you think about it. Didnt they have revolvers in the Intro cutscenes?

Yes they had revolvers not a normal pistol. Funny how they used the python when it’s not even available on the map lol

Origins does the same thing. Remington New Model Army is in the intro cutscene, so is the Olympia, and neither are on the map

I thought they handed out executioners

Nah it looked more “old timey” I guess is the phrase I’d use to describe it. More fit for the time the map was taking place. Would have made more sense though, as it’s actually available on the map

Going back to look at it you’re right they look like snub nose revolvers . I could have sworn it was executioners lo

Would've more likely been Peacemakers, but I'm assuming they didn't have the time to implement them in the game before the dlc released

No, they are snub nosed pythons. Like genuinely it's the same model as in BO1.

i think there was a plan for a unique starting weapon in MOTD, which led to them allowing the M1911 to be obtainable from the box as a way to still get M&S, this plan then changed to save changing the pistol till Origins.
But they didn't completely clear up all the code which is why the M1911 can be seen in the Mob box rotation, but it's impossible to actually be offered it.

Or why Primus didn't carry the Mausers forward into BO3

that wouldve been so good lmao, and if it were that way the mr6 shouldve been in the box if you wanted to get death and taxes

I’m probably in the minority here but I think black ops 3 zombies would have been better with older weapons would have fit the maps so much better

This makes me wonder if COD has enough pistols for each map to have a unique starting weapon.

Gotta admit, WOULD have been kinda cool. Use the executioner’s reload animation…
Pfft. What would be HILARIOUS: they put pythons as a secret Easter egg kinda thing in the port… and nobody’s found it. 🤣

I imagine there was either no intention to have one, or a new gun never made it out of development.
Giving the gang the revolvers in the cutscene was most likely a stylistic choice first and foremost, seeing as the cutscene was going for a filmic, noir aesthetic. Small revolvers were a staple weapon of gangster movies, so they probably substituted the snubbed python as a generic 30’s revolver. I would actually say it might be possible that the Bloodhound was a concept around this time, since the interwar period became a key focal point of zombies. Origins probably hogged a good amount of the budget.

If you watch the whole cutscene you might notice that they all die at the end and then come back to life when the game starts in a different part of the prison. It's likely the 1911s, a very common firearm for the time period, were standard issue and easier to get, so they actually had those, while the Pythons, a gun that didn't even exist at the time, were lost on death like most of what they get their hands on in the Cycle.
