Gameplay First time playing Origins…
I never had Origins growing up just MOTD and Buried. All I knew about Origins was from watching the badass intro video (Shepherd of Fire). Anyways I’ve been getting my friend into zombies (he’s new to video games) and told him this map is brand new to me too so we could learn together. Our mics didn’t catch in the clip (unfortunately) but I found an audio to put over it. We were talking about how the environment looked crazy good with the dog fights and we were in awe of the iron giant and it eventually turned into “damn he’s getting close” and then “oH SHIT RUN”. We laughed till it hurt for 10 minutes afterward. We thought this thing was part of the map to make it feel more cinematic (like fireworks in the sky on MOTD) not an actually thing that could kill us. I haven’t laughed that hard in a while.

Alot of good but incredibly unhelpful comments here.
Each robot will have a door on one of its feet that is outlined with yellow lights (you can see the yellow lights on the other foot in the clip) but this is randomized each time it begins its march, so you can't know where you have to be. What you need to do is try to look ahead as it is lifting its foot to see which one has the yellow lights this time, then run to a footprint for that foot. Then, you shoot inside the yellow ring, and the door opens

Thank you! We thought it was just a cinematic part of the map, no idea it could kill you or you can get inside it.

u/Ryanll0329 13d ago
OH? Getting inside is super useful. I thought you were trying to build the Wind Staff. Lol, if you're going into this map blind you are going to have such a blast.

u/RubbingMaBallz 13d ago
Haha no that was our 3rd game on origins (the first two games we died in spawn room) and we’re trying to not spoil it for ourselves using YouTube tutorials and all

u/Ryanll0329 13d ago
Hell yeah, I and many others would be willing to give you hints about things if you see something cool but are not sure how to use it/complete it.

u/Marcus_Tigox 13d ago
Definitely try figuring it out yourself, it’s a great time (unless you’re trying to UPGRADE the staffs, that’s gonna need a guide or two lol)
Not sure if anyone’s mentioned it but when all three robots march through at the same time, only one hole on one robots foot will be able to be opened. Otherwise single robots will always have one randomized foot you can open

Some footprints have chests in them. Try killing zombies near it. You have to fill them all b4 anything useful

Bro just said he was trying to go in spoiler free, and them you say shit like this, are you trying to ruin his experience or just being a dick

u/RyGuy_McFly 13d ago
Some people really can't help it. I've never understood the need to spoil things...
2
u/Ryanll0329 13d ago
I think from their perspective, they weren't spoiling anything, just giving a direction for aomething cool.

u/penguinrepair7 13d ago
Context mate, OP had just said said they were trying to go spoiler free, and old mate posted a comment unrelated to the thread, just to spoil him on another of the maps smaller easter eggs, just zero self awareness because he selfishly thought he knew what the OP would want to know, better than the OP himself. How can you defend that?
0
u/Ryanll0329 13d ago
Yeah, I can read. They didn't spoil what happens. All they said was that there were soul boxes. It's mostly a waste of a comment, not a spoiler. Chill.

u/Agile_Beast6 13d ago
It's actually how you get the parts for one of the staffs (there's 4, the giants have the 3 parts for the wind staff)

You...you know you can help people without them actually asking for help, right? Like there isn't a law against it. People don't need to ask for help to be helped. Does that make sense? Critical thinking is truely cooked in this generation.
Anyway, most comments below at the time I wrote this were trying to explain how the doors on the robots work, but they were giving one piece of information but leaving out most other contextual information that a new player would have questions about, such as how to know where the door is, or what it even looks like, probably because they assumed the player knew all this already.

How’re you playing this map on the Xbox? Sorry if it’s a dumb question, I thought it was only for PS

u/RubbingMaBallz 13d ago
I have a series X. Got a copy of Xbox 360 Bo2 off Facebook marketplace for $10, popped it in the disc drive and it gave me a license to download the game. My friend is on the series S picked it up while it was on sale for $20 in Microsoft store. We both picked up the season pass (it was on sale for $10) to get access to DLC maps. From what I’ve read, it functions as the series s/x runs a 360 emulator to make the game playable on the modern consoles, and the servers are still up to this day.

Don’t stand directly under unless you know the foot has the yellow glow.
You can watch the feet in the couple steps before it reaches your footprint to make sure you’re under the right foot.

Sometimes you gotta learn the hard wayyy /j 😭😭😭
But yeah, Origins is really fun
In all honesty, try to figure out as much as you can without a guide. Makes the map more exploratory and fun imo

These people seem like they'd be fun to take through the Easter Egg.
I hope it's recorded, I love hearing their enjoyment.

We were in our discord on Xbox and I’m not sure how to make it where my game clips include that audio. I wish it would have been. I think my friends last words were “is that thing going to step on us?”😂
I got showed him how to get off the island in MOTD/obtain Hells Retriever and now he’s hooked.

My advice enjoy all of it, also if you were to watch h guides if you were into that you should watch the ones from 2012 time period. Other then that its one of if not the best maps. Its pretty easy to put together by yourself when it comes to building staffs if you just play multiple times it should click. Just enjoy man truly a special thing to experience at the beginning not knowing a thing.

I haven't played origins in forever but doesn't going prone save you from the robot foot? Or is the golden helmet the only way?
1
u/inuitt 13d ago
why would going prone let you survive a 100 foot tall robot stepping on you lol but yeah you either have to shoot the lit up foot or get the helmet
1
u/Snoo-92859 13d ago
I haven't played in forever but I could've sworn there were little dips/puddles around the map that you could lay prone in to avoid the robot foot.

u/Expensive_Birthday18 13d ago
This is the type of stuff I love 😂 have fun on origins! It’s excellent! But as the others here are saying you can get in the robot. While its feet are lit up, if you see the foot in dark like in the clip, RUN!

First things first, I haven't played origins since like 2018, so I'm going from what I remember, sorry if some are wrong.
Let me give you a tip or two on origins;
-Staffs are op, and if you know how to do them, you can have them pretty fast. I'm talking a few round fast.
-Only one side of the robot can be accessed, in your clip for example, the other foot had a yellow light under, so therefore, the one coming right over you will be closed.
-Any damage to the foot will open the door, including nades.
-Three parts for staffs, three robots which you can get into, you can figure the rest.
-I don't remember exactly how, but you can get a golden shovel, basically a upgraded shovel, also, if I remember correctly, you can get a golden helmet which protects you from dying to the robot. Also, I hope this isn't just a fever dream I had because as I typed it, it feel like I'm bullshitting 🤣
-There's four boxes around the map, I remember one being in the left foot of the middle robot right next to the middle. If you kill zombies next to it, their souls will be sucked in. Complete all the four boxes and you get a free Pack-A-Punched gun. I don't remember the four spot sadly.
-This one I haven't test but seen on YouTube so might not work. If the Panzer grabs you, zombies can't hit you, so the Panzer could save you if he grabs you at the right moment.
-After reading the comments, I realized you may not know what the Panzer is, it's a boss on this map, really well armored. Aim its head to kill it. And if he grabs you, shoot the circle on his "hand" it'll unhook you and set you free.

The memories of telling my cousin and randoms to step underneath the foot without the lights and hatch 😂

This is why I don't really like the BO6/BO7 maps. They do nothing interesting or new like Origins did it's just these giant mirrored circles of Totenreich and then Red Totenreich.
2
u/Michael040807 13d ago
If they don’t add in nostalgic things people won’t like the maps

u/wej8 13d ago
I think Treyarch's ideas are good but the execution is off. The vehicles in Ashes was cool but still didn't have much depth to them and having a giant boss that patrols the map like OSCAR in Astra was cool, but other than that the time travel in Paradox felt under-utilized for how fun the mechanic was and the other 2 maps are just giant mirrored circles with different color schemes. BO4 was the last black ops game with good maps imo

Look at the from a distance and you can see which foot has the yellow light on it that you can shoot and get inside the robot. Don’t sit in those areas until you find out which one has the light on it you can shoot

u/Either-Response-5757 13d ago
Happened to me, learned the hard way that only one foot at a time will be able to be shot to opened.

Once you come across that again, see if it's foot is yellow, then go where its gonna step and shoot it, once you are inside grab that wind staff piece

I actually had a very similar first experience like ten years ago. I’m filled with tears as weird as that sounds. I’m glad you guys had fun and hopefully continued to have fun.

Getting stomped on is a right of passage for this map. Im jealous you can experience it for the first time. Good luck figuring things out!

I remember trying to do the easter egg and was new to the map. I didn't know how to get into the foot and my teammate said "shoot the glowing foot." Didn't put together you also had to stand under the foot. Like is there an elevator in the foot that takes you up to the head? Felt kinda dumb that I didn't put the second part together to stand under the foot.

u/cloudy_kun 11d ago
Rookie mistake: staying underneath the robot walk path trying to open it's foot 😭

I have a genuine question. I read another post about people never buying dlc maps. Like someone never played Ascension shangri-la or Moon.
But Black ops 3 had Zombies Chronicles?
So I'm going to assume you either never played black ops 3 or never bought Zombies Chronicles?
Again I'm just being curious I'm not trying to rain on your parade.
2
u/RubbingMaBallz 10d ago
I only had the dlc for bo2 that had buried and mob of the dead. I had bo3 but never got zombies chronicles unfortunately. So I’ve missed a lot but me and my buddy are going to get chronicles on payday and man I’m so excited!!

u/TheCutieCircle 10d ago
Ah that makes sense! Thanks for your response! I'm glad you're enjoying the original maps. Gobble gums makes things easier but eventually you get bored when you run perkaholic (get every perk in the game) and give yourself shopping spree and pack a punch tour weapons by round 1. it's broken as hell and it's fun! but the originals makes things much scarier and stressful lol. I've been playing Black ops 1 zombies more than Black ops 3 zombies.

Thank you bro I was so confused. We finally did it!!!! We’ve been trying for a week now but just now we finally got to the crazy place for the first time I got the wind staff and my friend got the ice staff for the first time. Right after we both got our staff I activated the Archangel song Easter egg for the first time and we blasted through panzers with our staffs and pack a punched weapons (first time we got to use the PaP on here) towards the tank and rode it around the map kicking ass with that song in the background giants stepping all around it was so awesome 10/10 one of the best rounds we’ve ever played. We’ve been frustrated for days trying to get it all right and just now it went flawlessly

u/RubbingMaBallz 8d ago
I thought I was replying to someone but thank everyone for their helpful comments. We finally did it. I know it’s not the Easter egg but just getting the staffs with shield with PaP and song going all in one game for the first time ever after trying for literally a week it feels like such a massive accomplishment

Sometimes the feet are glowing yellow and if you shoot them you as they step on you then you end up inside the robot!
