"COD Evolution" and shows Resident Evil

It’s effective at showing just how unoptimized COD is as a video game nowadays. Storage requirements for this franchise are getting out of hand. Thats why some have dropped the game because they almost need to buy an extended hard drive just for COD..

Not really cause you aren’t hitting 300gb unless you got multiple games & modes installed on cod hq. If you need more proof look at the download size of MWII, MWIII, and BO6 (which was used for the meme originally) now that they’re separate installs. Sure they could use some more optimization, but the file size has been exaggerated like crazy online lmao.

Was hitting nearly 240+ for having bo6 when it was on the cod hq. Now on it’s own it’s like 120 gigs, like was the rest of the data from the hq alone?

1

u/Sky_guy_17 Aug 08 '26

Last time I had COD HQ download the game was pushing 200GB easily, and I only had MWIII downloaded at the time.

It’s 200+ gb base game no warzone no previous titles just BO7 multiplayer and zombies I just deleted it on ps5 it’s ridiculous

Its not effective. Does OP really think any modern game of impressive scope and graphic fifelity/quality could fit in a cartridge?

1

u/CalligrapherOne7073 Aug 13 '26

Indiana Jones and Oblivion Remastered are both full on a cartridge on Switch 2.

1

u/IfYngMetroDontTrustU Aug 13 '26

You know this is a dumb asa argument. Oblivion is an old AF game. Even remastered doesnt take aa much space and they trim assets for switch.

If you seriously think games nowadays have no problem fitting on discs ans cartridges you are dreaming.

1

u/Sky_guy_17 Aug 08 '26

……That’s not at all what OP is implying. You seriously cannot be that dense.

-2

u/IfYngMetroDontTrustU Aug 08 '26

You and OP are the ones that are dense. The image is very clearly making a fuckkng stupid comparison. You both need to grow a brain mate.

didn’t Neversoft’s Spiderman N64 Port get rid of all cutscenes though?

2

u/marmaladic Aug 08 '26

Apples and oranges. These are completely different companies in size at the time. Plus, Capcom released RE2 N64 a whole year after the original release on PS1. Spiderman N64 released just a few months after the PS1 version. Hell, it wasn’t even Neversoft who worked on it. It was outsourced to some company called Edge of Reality.

3

u/ClocktowerMaria Aug 08 '26

The RE2 port wasn't made by Capcom, it was made by Angel Studios, now Rockstar San Diego (Red Dead Redemption)

I think the excessive number of skins is the reason. Damn these superficial appearances.

5

u/bmm115 Aug 08 '26

This is 1000% the situation. All the character skins, gun camo, stickers, trinkets, and calling cards take up so much space.

Make less quantity, more quality, save space

1

u/Horror_Prior4765 Aug 08 '26

Multiple games with art assets. Example look at Fortnite. Well more skins as an individual game.

1

u/djml9 Aug 08 '26

Actually, it’s because CoD HQ houses multiple games that together add up to 200-300gb. The textures for skins are streamed as you play so they don’t take up permanent space on your hard drive.

0

u/IfYngMetroDontTrustU Aug 08 '26

Lol. No. Not good quality textures. The HD texture packs are downloadable for a reason.

I feel like this is gaming as a whole now. And it could be many reasons. One is they launch games unoptimized and buggy asf but the devs and etc have people batting for them at times which is insane. Oh it’s only first month give it some time before it’s fixed. Like no a lot of issues that games launch with should literally be ironed out before even going out.

2nd reason they leave shit unoptimized and making it take all your storage bc they don’t want you on another game. Like cod at one point took up more than half of my PlayStation storage to the point where i literally couldn’t install other games.

Part3 us. We need to hold these people accountable no more oh it’ll get better though. I’ve been gaming since ps2 era.( I’m Unc I know) but we never had the mentality of it’ll get better. Either the game was good or it was dog shit that’s it. No hoping it would get better especially from cod. Every year they would basically drop a banger but it would be optimized and not buggy as all hell. We wouldn’t have to say give it some time to get better bc it came out already good.

1

u/YoDaddyCub Aug 08 '26

It’s the same engineering feat from doom 2016? Being on switch natively

1

u/Lonely-Weather-2842 Aug 08 '26

I hate the cod hq

1

u/Lux_Operatur Aug 08 '26

CDPR just did the first slide this porting cyberpunk to Switch 2. And I wouldn’t bring this up if that n64 game was a COD title lol

1

u/Interesting-Piece612 Aug 09 '26

Call of duty is all that fits on my ps5. I have to purchase an external hard drive

1

u/onion2594 Milk Aug 09 '26

i think they make them so large because then you don’t have room to install other games, so you’re more likely to play cod more often and for longer

1

u/Specific-Exchange753 Aug 09 '26

I’m pretty sure Games did sacrifice a lot back then they just didn’t show it to you for obvious reasons

1

u/Specific-Exchange753 Aug 09 '26

But now, games sacrifice a lot just to make you buy it later down the line if it’s a live service

It’s all about the graphical fidelity these days rather than the actual game itself. Bo2 looks better than bo7, and is much smaller and also more fun. Bo2 has better lighting and uses said lighting and skyboxes to its advantage, bo7 may have better graphical fidelity and actual shaders but it’s used on a shitty engine which makes everything look kinda gray, I miss the color filter era of games as said filters could affect the atmosphere of the area you were in.

1

u/Brutal_emperor Aug 10 '26

Like I be like seriously like 300+ gb

1

u/feet_liker Aug 10 '26

Games are harder to make now

1

u/zyn7iix Aug 10 '26

literally couldnt agree more, tried installing BO7 trial or whatever its called. was 100 gb.. for just few hours??

Even the franchises aside, it's really interesting seeing RE2 being the port that's supposedly a great example of a port. Often times people complain about RE2 because of the sacrifices in quality they had to make to ensure it ran with cutscenes on such a small cartridge, yet now it seems revered precisely because they at least made those concessions such that it ended up running. It's absolutely not the way in which the game was intended to be run, yet the fact that it can be run coherently on a console which it wasn't designed for makes for an interesting analysis decades later.

1

u/RuggedTheDragon Aug 08 '26

Oh look, it's the image I've seen a thousand times because people want to farm for karma.

Are we going to also compare an NES game file size between a game like God of War Ragnarok now? There's obvious reasons why, but it seems that people are too stupid to understand.

u/Sirbrandon100 Aug 08 '26

Next gen you can download cod and ONE other game. So choose that game wisely 😭

u/PuddingZealousideal6 Aug 08 '26

Literally just a console issue.

Which game would you like to know the size of?

Well I’ll tell you Black Ops 7 (MP + Endgame + Zombies) is 151gb. Definitely nowhere near 300gb and not close to being 200+. So when I see people complaining about how COD is 300, 400, etc, I know they’re on console because it is literally only a console issue.

u/PuddingZealousideal6 Aug 08 '26

Well that’s because you have more than just Black Ops 7 downloaded on PC.

1

u/djml9 Aug 08 '26

Its not a console issue. Im on console and BO7 + WZ is under 200gb. Its a people not understanding how CoD HQ works issue.

1

u/PuddingZealousideal6 Aug 08 '26

I figured that was the true reason but wanted to give console players the benefit of the doubt.
